I love to cook and bake so Karo syrup is always in this house(I also had a diabetic cat many years ago). He has never shown symptoms, even when his blood sugar was in the low 70's(I have a glucometer to check his sugar). I guess I should add I am a vet tech for an animal emergency center. I will see if I can pick up the ingredients and mix them up. Can I dry the eggshells in the oven to quicken it up?

You're a Vet tech, what a great job. I know it must be heart wrenching at times, but it must be so rewarding and fun.
No, don't bake the eggshells. That will cook them and they will splinter. They should dry out in a day or two. If you prefer, you could use Bone Meal powder. Maybe your office carries it. You really want a Human grade, like the NOW brand or KAL, but it's not hard to find. Amazon carries it.

The bone meal is definitely a real time saver compared to egg shells.

Keep in mind that the soup recipe the forum gives is not long term and is only until your ferret is fully switched to a raw or whole prey diet. The only ones we keep on soup usually are the sick and or elderly ferrets.

Well my two are sick but I am hoping to use it to help keep weight on them as a treat or when I am doing Daisy's fluids

Well I made a soupy mix of the food and added a small amount of Ferretvite for Daisy to do her fluids and she ate it up readily!! Mozart took a few licks off the spoon(no scruffing involved this time)after much coaxing. He is definitely going to be the more stubborn of the two. Tonight I will mix the food with the Duk soup but definitely add less of the duk soup to it and see how it goes. Going easier than I thought. The hard part will be when I am working and trying to keep the schedule up. Hope they adapt soon but I will keep trying. This is getting my hopes up. Thanks so much for your help. I will keep you informed.

Do you plan on eventually switching yours to frankenprey or commercial raw? Once on the soup you will start seeing improvements within 1-2 weeks or so, the most significant improvements we see is fur/coat changes and weight gain. This picture is Caillou after 1 week of being off kibble and on raw- Ferretvite -meant ferretone--- has BHA which is a cancer causing agent and isn't good for them, can you pick up some Salmon Oil? Most all ferrets go crazy for this stuff, mine much preferred it over Ferretvite when I switched it. Also some love coconut oil, olive oil, and emu oil. Don't give Cod Liver Oil, it can cause Vitamin A Toxicity. ADD: Also ferretvite is what we call "Insulinoma in a tube" and so if you have any throw it out. Any and all treats or "supplements" you find at a petstore with "ferret" on it or a picture of a ferret, more than likely is bad for them. It's great they already will eat some on their own, a lot of ferrents have to scruff n stuff and do nose dabs for days or weeks. Good job!

It sounds like you are making good progress. You'll figure out all kinds of time saving methods as you go along.
Julesalot was right about using the eggshell powder as a short term until ferrets go to the Frankenprey diet and begin eating bones.
In your case, you don't plan on going to Frankenprey, so the soup will have the nutrients from bone and that will be better for your two than just the short term eggshell powder. One thing that I want to look into is to find out for you, what the balance of soup to NV should be. I'll post to the Mentors Board and get a Senior Mentor to help with that.
You will be amazed at the change in their coats. That happens pretty fast, within a few weeks. They will have soft, silky fluffy fur.
Daisy has Adrenal, how is her coat now. Is she losing fur or regaining fur?

She actually grew some hair back when I started the fluids, duk soup and ferretvite. Though I have noticed some hair loss on her tail. That is new starting this past month and a half. The vet was surprised that she tolerates the fluids and put weight on. Her last checkup was on the 15th and her BUN was slightly up but her CReatnine is holding and her phosphorus stayed the same(which was slightly high). Her packed cell volume went from 40% to 36%. Not a concern for anemia yet. Their stools are completely normal now too. They were treated with flagyl, amici and carafate when they got E. Coli. That has resolved.

They both go back in March for recheck bloods. She gets Lupron every 2 months and won't get it again until February.

Welcome to HFF! I've just put my girls on RAW not that long ago...a great way to do it is with a syringe. At first I had to scruff them by the back of their necks, but it worked. They are both 100% on RAW.
My girls were on kibble and they came to me looking undernourished. Since I have them it's amazing the change. My girl, Bella is sick with Insulinoma and I am working on getting her strong and her BG up.
You've come to a great group!

Oh good. No lady wants to lose her hair/fur. I haven't dealt with Adrenal, but I have dealt with Insulinoma. I mentioned this before, but when my Ponce (my first ferret) developed Insulinoma, he refused to eat. I would have done anything to get him to eat. I bought Duk soup also. That's when I found the Forum. Ponce developed Lymphoma and we lost him to that. I stayed on the forum and began to learn as much as possible. I was nervous about feeding raw, it seemed so complicated and I took almost a year before I made a full switch. First, I began feeding FDR and my little business grew and now, we have five ferrets. I went thru the Mentoring process and finally became confident enough to trust that I was doing it correctly. Then I became a Mentor in Training because I have so many on the waiting list. We have some great Mentors. If you are interested here is the link to Meet your Mentor: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/176/meet-mentorWe have some pretty experienced ferrents and they can be helpful with medical issues, reading bloodwork and understanding medicines. That can be so helpful to have someone to talk with. :wave2:
