It might save space to portion everything out in little baggies, once you begin shopping more for Severus. The little baggies take up less room and you can label them or buy the kind that you write on.
How did the hearts go over, this morning? (Its still early for you, and this is your day off, so I'm not expecting to hear from you for awhile).

He got the last of the soup and chunks right before I went to bed at six so, I'm about to go pull the hearts outta the fridge right now hopefully he will like them.

Do you warm those up a little? Just run some warm water over them. Most ferrets don't care for right out of the fridge cold foods.

He cares not whether it's cold or slightly warm, I'm thinking he's used to cold since my roommates keep the ac at 68 and since we're in the basement it's even colder. I have the window open on every nice day and the heater on if that doesn't help. However I did run them under hot water, just to clean the bloody juice cause ew, but he was not a fan. He only gets one full meal of hearts a week right? And then like a half meal? Also I woke up today and thought he was dead. I was almost in tears when he made a little noise and stretched. I couldn't feel a pulse or even him breathing and yeah. I was freaking hard. Dang ferret, sleeping like he's dead.

Aww...Dead Ferret Sleep is very scarey. My Ponce would sometimes scare me like that, and he would have his eye open and be sound asleep.
Right about the hearts. One full meal once a week and then on the second organ day, its a half meal. That means that Hearts equal up to 10 percent of Severus's weekly consumption.

So on second organ day it's 50% heart, 25% liver (or other secreting organ), 25% kidney (or other organ)?

Yes, that's correct. (dance)

Awesome. I'm starting to understand. Only problem is, since I only had a few hearts left tucked away in my freezer I'm out. And Metro isn't selling any this week. Dang. Looks like I have two reasons to go out tomorrow. Oh well.

Good, I'm glad its starting to make sense. It does seem overwhelming at first and then suddenly, it starts to make sense. That's one of the reasons that I like to show people a simple menu. Since you're already going out, please take just a second and read a little about Taurine. Hearts aren't the only source of Taurine, tongue is another good one. The reason that we use hearts, is because the more the organ moves, the more taurine is found in it. The heart is constantly beating and thus, a super good source of Taurine. However, its always good to know about a backup source. I try to always have some tongue available and mine love pork tongue. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/15089/information-taurine

You can only readily buy pickled tongue here. It's funny, growing up in Houston you could find fresh trotters, tongues, giblets, hearts, livers, kidney's and all that grossness, and here in Ottawa, ON you can only find that stuff in a few places, and mostly at butcher's only. Ugh. It's just all gross to me now. I mean more than half of what he eats now was always gross to me (I could never really stand raw chicken it feels like snot and it's smell is vomit inducing for me.) and now it's just blarg. My stomach is so touchy.

How did you end up in Ottawa?
Its kind of funny about ferrets. We fall in Love with those complicated litle creatures and yet they are so difficult sometimes. You hate all the raw stuff and have to feed it to Severus. I have this huge need to feed and yet, I have to feed four tiny little animals with the pickiest, tiniest appetites. I guess that's why so many people have easy to feed dogs and cats. (giggle)

My husband is a Canadian citizen and this is where he lived pretty much his entire life. I'm getting a little burnt on this place though and I'm really missing America, but I'm sort of stuck here. Not much to be done about it. And honestly, I wanted a dog, but my landlord said no so I went to ferret and when he said no to that I told him we'd be moving at the start of the summer. He consented after that.

I've never been to Ottawa. I have been to Ontario and Toronto, they are really beautiful cities. Maybe if you move apartments, you will find another part of the city, that you like better.
How did Severus do eating today? Did he accept any cubes?

He did really well today, until he figured out how to climb his baby gate and get to the main floor. I just heard the pitter patter of tiny feet above my head and I screamed his name and ran upstairs. He could of got under or behind the fridge or stove. I was so freaked. Also, just past the baby gate is the washer and dryer and a lovely ferret sized hole in the wall behind the dryer. I am so glad all he did was run to the back door (sliding glass) and look out there. Also Ontario is the province, Toronto is the capital of this province, and Ottawa is capital of Canada.

I'll have to google Canada and get better educated.lol

UH OH, once they figure something out, its no holds barred. We had a ferret sized hole behind our washer. I duct taped a board to the sides of the washer and dryer (they also liked to poop back there). It works well, except for the little snake, that came thru it. Now, we've put that fast drying foam stuff in the hole and so far, no more snakes.
Today, is shopping day? Do you want to pick up a little pork? You could try some fatty ground pork and whip up an egg, pour it over it and see what Severus thinks. That's a favorite meal of mine. Eggs are good for preventing hairballs and have Omega 3's.
