Okay, well we are f1gur1ng h1m out. So, cubes 1t 1s. Three of m1ne prefer to have me s1t w1th them or be close by. Jul1et prefers pr1vacy. Wynstan loves for me to take and run some hot water over a p1ece of food, and so does Roamy. 1 th1nk the warm water releases the smell of the food.
As you know, 1've been us1ng Paul's computer, unt1l m1ne 1s back and 1 know what you mean about the keyboard. 1ts l1ke dr1v1ng someone's else's car. 1 can't wa1t to get m1ne back.
Does Severus l1ke blanket r1des? Does he have any favor1te toys?

He's eating the soup and chunks, but like I said, he wants praise and supervision.

Sorry, I'm back on my crappy laptop that loads for no one so I didn't see that post. Anyway he really just likes attention, his chase toys, and fabric. Gets him all riled up and ready to fight.

Can you g1ve me an 1dea of your bas1c schedule, for feed1ng Severus? Are you a sh1ft worker, or work regular n1ne to f1ve hours. Does Severus get breakfast before your work and then d1nner after you get home? 1'm not try1ng to be nosey, 1 just want a feel for when he eats and when you th1nk he's hungr1est.

My hours are a bit irregular. I work wednesday 9-3 and get home around 3:30 to 4, thursday 9:30-4 though I get home around 6-7, friday 9:30-4 I get home about 5:30, sunday 12-6 and get home around 6:30. I usually feed him the moment I get up, or if he's feeling hungry before I'm up he clatters the bowl against his cage. He only does this when he is hungry or in the mood for seconds. He then gets fed again usually about 6 in the evening. And then he gets a late evening meal around 12-3 am, depending if I'm off the next day and if he's passed out or to busy playing. So his feeding schedule varies a bit since my own varies wildly. But I am an extremely light sleeper and with his cage so close to my bed I wake up near instantly when I hear him scratching at his bowl for noms. Does that help any? Oh, also my work schedule is changing a the end of the month. I will no longer be working wednesday or sunday. Instead it will be Monday 9-3 (home around 3:30), Thursday 9-3(home around 3:30), Friday 9:30-4 (home around 6-7). Fridays will become my new grocery day.
Edit: Also, he smells WAY WAY WAY better now that he hasn't had liver in three days.

Good! How is your rash? think there's any connection.
Your schedule is as crazy as mine was, when I was in the Air Force. I love that Severus clatters his bowl, he's just too cute.
Even though, we aren't building a menu yet, what days do you want to include the organs? We should keep that on a regular schedule.
Have you tried feeding him any pieces of just hearts, no soup?

I'm not sure, I made a few improvements over the last two days to try and help my itchy nose and my rash. Now every time I handle his food I wash with anti-bacterial soap, I took the trash bag out of our room (I put a new one in weekly, but no more now, if there's trash now it needs to go to the main floor or into the garage), cleaned the sink that I wash his dishes in (there was a piece of chicken that was god knows how old stuck in the drain. I didn't noticed it because the lights are florescents by that sink and they are currently out and I have no clue how to open the panel to change them, much less change them myself.), and then he hasn't had soup with liver in three days. So, I guess one of things is helping, ha ha. I just clean houses, nothing so fancy as air force. I just have always preferred being up late. It just feels natural to me. I feel normal when I go to bed around 6 am and then get up around 2-3. And it actually helps that he does scratch at his bowl, because otherwise his feedings would be way more messed up on the days I'm off. He also will try to dump it if it's got food his doesn't want in it. Like licked clean chicken chunks. So it's helpful and cute, but slightly annoying cause EAT YOUR DANG FOOD FERRET! I think Tuesdays and Saturdays would be good days for organs since I'm always off both of those days and I don't have to guess if he got them or not since my husband sometimes like to feed him randomly. And no, we haven't tried that yet. I have some hearts in the freezer (so serial killer sounding ), should I take out one or two and let them thaw?

Okay, since Tues is tomorrow, let's try the hearts and see what Severus thinks. Try the hearts for one meal and then for his dinner (or breakfast), he should have a liver plus other organ meal, to keep to his schedule. If you want to wait a until Saturday, to give him Liver again, that's okay. He has been eating Liver and Organs in his soup and it won't hurt to start his organ meals on Saturday. It might give you a break from this mysterious rash. What do you think?
I completely get the husband thing. Paul loves the ferrets, but they are mine, when it comes to poop, feeding and grooming, and like I mentioned before, he still hasn't gotten to the whole prey yet. (I think he's softhearted and doesn't want anyone to know it).

So, I feel bad for doing this, but Sev has barely eaten in the last two days because I'm not giving him more soup than chunks. Today he ate some of the smaller chunks after licking up every bit of soup, but I could tell he's hungry he keeps going to his bowl to give it another thorough lick so I sat down with him, and scruffed him then put one of the larger pieces in his mouth. Every time he spit it out I pushed it back in. Took a while, but he finally ate it. We did that with two more pieces. He got a lot of fanfare and excitement for eating, rubs, and a little ferretone on his belly (he's getting a water bath later so I figured it'd be funny to watch and it was.) In about two hours I'll make another batch of soup and chunks and hand feed him the soup covered chunks.

UGH I HATE THIS LAPTOP. Anyway, would it be okay for him to just have a heart meal tomorrow and then soup and chunks, and then on saturday give him liver and kidney? I don't currently have anything else besides liver and hearts on hand because of the limited freezer space we have. If you think not then I can bus tomorrow and pick something else up for his organ dinner.

I know, I just got mine back today and I'm so happy. (dance)
Hearts and then soup/chunks tomorrow are fine. The last few weeks, he has had plenty of organs and it won't hurt him a bit, to wait until Saturday.
I'm jealous that you have city transportation. We've only live in this very rural (more cows than people) area for about two years and sometimes, I miss city life. When we need a city fix, we go into Nashville. Its a pretty cool city, but still very country (as you can imagine).

Where I lived before I moved to Ottawa I had no public transport either. I also had never had anything more exotic than a cat or dog as I got older (when I was a little kid I had all sort of weird pets) and had to take care of my own pets and stuff. Now, I am immensely grateful for the public transport, but wish I lived in a town that had better vets. Good, I honestly didn't feel like busing anywhere for his food cause I'm lazy and octranspo is dumb and expensive and just keeps going up in price. >.< Oh well can't be helped. It's why I try to get all my shopping done in one day, I'm going out then anyway, might as well get all my groceries then as well.

The good thing about shopping for ferrets is that when you buy something like a cornish game hen, you get more than one meal from it. So, once Severus is on a full frankenprey menu, you should be able to shop easily and cheaply and not have to shop for another month.

Yeah I head it's pretty cheap to feed them once they are on raw, but it may cost a bit more since we share a fridge/freezer space with three other people, not counting myself, my hubby, and Sev. So really it's like six people sharing one regular sized freezer. It's super not fun, I can't wait to move out of this place.
