Alright sounds like a plan. Oh also, he ate almost his entire soup and chunks last night, I was so proud! There was only two pieces left in the bowl. He's not digging breakfast/lunch though. I remembered to take out his soupie last night, but I forgot the chicken chunks in the freezer. So they were a little half frozen and he just looked at me like 'wtf is this?' Oh well, they'll thaw. In the mean time, I'm off to the store for pork and hearts!

Yeah for Severus! After that big meal, he probably just wasn't that hungry for breakfast.

Nope that's tonight's dinner. Also I went to three different stores today, but not a one of them had chicken hearts or tongue. I know of a butcher shop nearby (there are no bus stops near it and it's a heck of a trek), and since my mother-in-law is picking me up tomorrow for my birthday I figured I can pick it up there.

I'll wait until tomorrow to say, Happy Birthday! You know you're a ferrent when, you get excited over shopping for hearts, on your birthday. (giggle)
Finding hearts here was so hard, we went everywhere. Then I started calling places and finally found a butcher, who would order them for me. Now, I have a great source from an Asian Market in Nashville.
Did Severus eat any breakfast?

Almost all of his soup and chunks. He prefers to eat the soup and then the chunks, but whatever. As long as it gets eaten. And Sunday is my actual birthday, but saturday, sunday, and monday are my birthday weekend and is divided up between friends, family, and my hubby and roomies. Tomorrow is my inlaws day, sunday belongs to my friends, and monday to my darling husband and room mates. So much fun. I know Metro (a 10 minute walk from my front door) usually carries hearts, but talking to the butcher he says he orders them on a rotating/bi-weekly thing. So one week he'll have cow organs and the next chicken stuff. So he should be getting more chicken stuff in soon. I'll start keeping them on hand (my last bag thawed to much on the counter top because I'm a derp and wander away from what I'm doing if I suddenly remember something else I need to do. Well that's not counting the hearts I gave Sev on tuesday, but I knew I had a bag of three hearts in the freezer somewhere ). Also I bought kidneys today. It's all so gross, I don't know how animals can eat organs. It's icky.

I tend to agree. I will eat alot of exotic things, but I'm not big on organs, even if you dress them up and put them in a gourmet restaurant and call them sweetbreads!
Beef is a stronger flavor, but Heart is Heart. So, you could try some cow heart (one heart would last forever, they are huge). Mine love pork tongue, but I haven't tried cow tongue on them yet.
Sounds like you will have a fun Birthday three day Weekend.

THANKS! It's been a great one so far, though I don't think Severus liked it since I was gone almost all weekend. Tomorrow and Tuesday I'll be home all day mostly so he can has cuddles and snuggles. We tried the pork and he wasn't a fan (what else is new.), but we'll try again next week. I totally screwed up and forgot to toss the kidney portions in the freezer and now they've been sitting in the fridge since friday and I don't know what to do with it. It's no big deal for me to buy more, but I just feel so wasteful. Same goes with the pork sludge soup stuff. :/ But that's been since thursday and I think it's off now. I've just been so careless with his food this last week. Sigh. I'll go out tomorrow to Metro and pick up some more chicken and pork and properly portion them up.

I'm glad that your birthday has been so great!
This is still kind of new for you and you just haven't got your routine down yet. I put a whiteboard on my fridge, with the meal plan. In the evening, when I'm cleaning up after dinner, I pull their breakfast for the next day out and set it on the counter and wash their water bowl and give them fresh water. Then when I go to bed, it goes into the fridge. In the morning, I pull it out and make their breakfast. After breakfast, I give them fresh water and I pull their dinner out and let it defrost. Its a habit now, and since everything is already portioned out, from when I shopped, its super easy.
The pork is new to him, right? Was it ground pork or pork chops? Did you try it with the egg? Try doing some pork for a few meals in a row. One trick is to cut a cube of pork from a chop and then while you're holding Severus, run the cube under some warm water and offer it to him. If he turns his head away, talk nice to him an run it under the water again and offer it, once more.

It was soupie sludge with pork cubes in it, same thing he gets with the chicken. And yeah, I did use egg, but he just wasn't interested. Since I'm heading out for errands today anyway (we need snacks for tonight) I'll pick up some chicken, pork, and another thing of eggs seeing how I got two left. I'll also grab hearts if they're back in stock. I'll portion it all out and then you can help me write up a meal plan. I'd like to go with new foods (proteins) on days I'm off so I can sit down with him and offer it to him. On mornings I work I can't really coddle him and offer him the food on my finger. Then on days I work he'll get chicken and we will keep gradually weaning him off the 'soup' part of his chicken meals and just strips and chunks. That sounds like a realistic goal right? Then once he's gotten three proteins and organs down weekly we can move to adding bone (though I'm going to guess that will take, at the very least, another month). Does this sound too ambitious or is that a very good and realistic goal? I'm not worried about time frame by any means, I just want to get him fully switched to bone-in frankenprey meals. Oh! Is there a way I can discourage him from stashing food, I do not like the idea of a raw chunk of meat just laying somewhere in my room to rot. He's only tried to run off with a chunk of chicken once, but I most definitely do not want that becoming a habit.

Sounds like a plan. We'll build a menu based on your schedule. We do have plenty of time, and your plan of getting him use to the three proteins and organs and then moving to bones is fine. You will want to continue adding some egg shell for calcium, (and nice firm poops) until he is eating bone.
You are not likely to discourage him from stashing. Its a huge part of their instinctual behavior. That's one reason, alot of ferrents feed them in their cage. Ferrets will always find something to stash: food, toys, you name it, they'll stash it. You're best bet is to watch him and after he has stashed, go pick up the treasure and get rid of it. My Wynstan and Juiet are huge stashers and I do a treasure hunt every morning and evening and get rid of all their treasures. They use the same spots, so its easy. Its hot and summer here, so if I miss something, then we see tiny little flies and its so icky. Also if you see him run off and stash something, you know that he's full. You could pick up the food at that point. I prefer to leave their food out, four little tummies and four different appetites, I like to know if they need a snack, something is available.

Oh so stashing is a sign of them being full? I thought so since he ran off with it right after he ate and I kept offering him more. Alright, great well I'm going to go to the store.

Did you find anything good at the store?
Have you weighed Severus lately?

Uh, yes and no. I got gizzards, hearts, pork, and chicken. I have preportioned livers in the freezer (2oz each) and I need to buy kidneys on friday and NOT forget about it. As for weighing him, I have not since last time. I'll snag him in a few and weigh him then. Right now I'm feeling a bit over whelmed with everything and I need to just calm down.
