As for using Yesterday's News, that's what most of us started out with The thing I didn't like about it is the fact it doesn't cover the odour up as well as the scoopable, and I went through it like mad! It seems they had to have their boxes dumped pretty much every second day with that. My vacuum cleaner didn't like it very much either ;D

In looking at world's best, I found that Arm & Hammer makes a corn litter that looks just like it. www.armandhammer.com/pet-care/cat-care/Products/arm-and-hammer-essentials-natural-clumping-litter.aspxDoes this look like it would be ok? And actually, I've seen some other brands that are corn litter, with and without fragrances. Used to use Yesterdays News, then changed to CareFresh. Even though it says it's low-dust, I seriously don't think that's the case. I see dust flying everywhere wildly when I take it out of the bag. If my ferret is inspecting why I am removing her precious poop to replace it with clean litter, I might even make her sneeze with the dust. Can't be good, right?

I used that Arm & Hammer litter before I switched to World's Best. It is not that great. It doesn't clump well, the clumps fall apart, and it doesn't control odor as well. However, it is pretty ferret safe, but it just doesn't compare to WBCL.

On the cat forum I'm on, a lot use chick feed because it's just corn like worlds best but cheaper and you can get big bags, anybody try that here? Sounds like wood pellets instead of yesterdays news kind of thing.

Hmm. Thanks for the info, Trippyferret! Do you think WBCL lasts longer?
Goingpostal, what kind of chick feed do people buy? Do they just get it at feed shops or online? I wonder if ferrets would try and eat it.... And it doesn't spoil...?? Wow that just broke my brain with so many questions.

Thanks! I read through that thread. And I'm a bit freaked out by the bug issues... anyone here had issues with WBCL or Swheat scoop and bugs?? I do live in the hot and humid South...

Hm, I've never had issues with bugs with WBCL, and I also live in the hot and humid south.
Maybe adding baking soda when you store it would kill off any bugs?

I don't like WBCL for the ferrets, but was thinking about giving it a try for the cat, I really hate clay litter, the dust gets everywhere but I can't afford Swheat Scoop for her and no one around here sells worlds best. But there are two feed stores and plenty of people who keep chickens so I would bet I could find some chick feed. You want the non medicated type though.

I read about having weevils already in the chick feed mix when you get it, and that freaks me out. All the talk about bagging and freezing it... >_< Big turn-off.
Will baking soda harm the ferrets at all? I know it can be really drying, and having it get on their feet and possibly on their privates worries me a bit, though I don't know if its unfounded.

I believe there are a couple of members on here who use it at the bottom of the litter boxes with no problems.

But mixed in wouldn't be ok? The arm and hammer has it mixed all in it. It would seem like it would be better at controlling odor that way than WBCL, I'm really scratching my head on that one... I'm just going to have to buy a bag of each and try it!

I started out with Yesterday's News... And I always liked it. I started having some issues with the quality... I swear it changed, I e-mailed the company twice and never got a response. I switched to WBCL and I LOVE it. It lasts longer, it works better, and in the end I'm saving $$ My best friend has stuck it out with YN... she asked me this morning about WBCL! Some like it, some don't. I think the biggest complaint (that I know if) is tracking it all over the cage, but I don't have that problem so that's probably why its the BEST litter for me

From my experience, that Arm & Hammer stuff doesn't control odor worth a d*mn. You would think it would, and it smells nice coming out of the bag... but once they use it, well, it stinks! Because it doesn't clump well, I'd have to end up dumping it more often, but WBCL lasts me a good bit! It has superior clumping to most litters I've tried, even clay litters(I have to use clay for my cats because one will pee on everything if I don't use it). Also, I live in Middle GA and I've never had a problem with bugs in my WBCL.
