Well, see what he says and if the vet can't figure it out, then the best thing to do would be to help her end her suffering. Look, you have done more than a lot of people would. I give you a lot of credit! You went out of your way to help this little animal. You came into this site and tried to learn as much as you could. That is awesome. How many people do that??! Not many. I also don't want you to get a bad impression of ferrets! you sound like you would make a great mommy to any lucky ferret. Yes, they have unique illnesses but they are great pets. Unfortunately, if they eat bad food their whole lives (or for a good part if it) alot of them end up with insulinoma. Poor Tinks is sick, her owners (who enjoyed her while she was young and healthy) just dumped her. and you were the one who bore the brunt of her illness. You are truly an angel. I wish there were more people like you out there.

By the way, sometimes it takes time to get the pred dose right. So you may need to increase it again slightly and keep increasing until it works. I had to start my ferret on a low dose but I had to increase it a lot because his bg was still low. Is she still drinking water, eating?

She might feel a whole lot better with some sub-q fluids in her or IV fluids. But at the least sub-q. When I first got Zool, he got a whole lot worse before he got better. You almost couldn't see him when he looked strait on you, he was so skinny. He wouldn't eat. Then we got to the vet, had them show me how to do sub'q's and within a week he looked so much better. For food I just used the crappy kibble he was used to and watered it down and made a soup. As long as Tink is eating it doesn't matter if it is crappy kibble, anything is good at this point, just get those fluids in her. Too much change is too stressful on her weak immune system.

yes, dehydration is a strong possibility and it is probably why you don't see her getting a whole lot better. she went a few days with diarrhea and without eating/drinking properly. and that makes a huge difference. a ferret can become dehydrated very quickly

Thank you all so much. I made the desicion to put Tink to sleep. I could tell that she was in pain and really starting to suffer, which the vet confirmed, and I suspected she was having silent seizures even with the pred, which the vet also confirmed. She was such a sweetheart, and even in her last days when she was in pain all she ever wanted was to be held and petted and to be loved Even though I had only had her a few weeks I will really miss her <3

I'm so sorry. you sound like you're a good ferret mom. you did everything you could and at least you gave her a good home for the last part of her life. putting ferrets (or any animal) to sleep is very difficult. but, you did the right thing. her insulinoma was probably very advanced and aggressive.
it is sad that her owners abandoned her like that when she was old and sick. sometimes the shock of being abandoned just sends them over the edge. i am glad that you were her angel during the last few weeks of her life. it sucks that this was your first experience with a ferret. you have never owned a healthy ferret. they are a bundle of joy when they are healthy. when they are sick they just want to be cuddled and they want to sleep. maybe you can open up your heart (and your home) to another fuzzy. but this time i hope that you get to enjoy her (or him) for alot longer!

I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for giving Tink a wonderful home, even if she didn't get to enjoy it for long. She really and truly does appreciate it now that she's happy and healthy again at the bridge

I'm so sorry that Tink wasn't getting better. I will light a traveling candle for the wee one. You gave her two weeks, that showed her someone really cared about what happened to her. Those two weeks were all she needed to earn her bridge key. Another little thief of hearts managed to steal a little piece of someone's heart and get her "safe passage". Thank you for being her heart friend Goodbye little Tink, you weren't here long but you will be missed ciao
