How heartbreaking. A healing candle is lit for the wee mother. I hope she pulls through her surgery. I'm so sorry she lost her kit, though considering how they chose to do the surgery without allowing for the kit to remain with the mother the ending isn't particularly surprising. I'm sorry. A special white candle is lit for your wee kit, to guide her on . ciao

I'm so sorry to hear all this. To be honest, it's extremely difficult to keep a newborn small animal alive without its mom. They rarely survive unless there is another "mom" that has a litter that's very similar in age - and that other mom must have enough milk as well as be willing to take on another kit from a different litter. I know you did everything humanly possible for the little kit, but the odds of having the baby survive without mom is so small. Even with mom coming home, there's a very, very good chance (probable?) she would lose her milk from the surgery. I hope your little jill comes home soon....You'll want to watch her VERY CLOSELY. Since she was such a good mom, there's a good chance she'll be looking for her baby. You may have an upset little girl on your hands in addition to dealing with post-surgical care. Sending healing thoughts and ferret prayers to you and your little jill. -jennifer

It's GREAT news to hear Stinky is home!!! She looks really good and strong in the picture - that's awesome. It's really good that has her "sisters" to comfort her. I can tell by your posts that Stinky is in very good, loving hands and she'll receive only the best care --> thanks to YOU, her wonderful mom -jennifer

So very sorry to hear but happy the mom came through ok. I have raised kits from 3 days old but it took 24/7 care and definitely not easy to do. Sending good thoughts your way...
