Let me know how the spoiled brats do ;D just so you are aware- now that they are on full raw, missing a meal really isn't going to hurt them

Well that's a relief ;D I woke up this morning -- and all the kidney/tongue was GONE!! (and the little pieces of chicken I threw in ;D ) This morning brings pork chops...They've all licked it but nobody's eaten it yet. I tried giving Freya a tiny piece to see if she'd eat it, but she just stashed it -- in the cage though! (insert eye roll here) I'll leave about 2 oz in the cage for them to munch on during the day. big LOL this morning from Marley...I had just finished messing around with their meat for the morning and went to wake him up to put him in the cage...well I guess my fingers smelled like pork chop because he woke up rather quickly and ever-so-gently took my thumb in his mouth and tried to stash me in the cage ;D

ever-so-gently took my thumb in his mouth and tried to stash me in the cage ;D Hey- at least you know now that although you may smell and taste good enough to stash, he still knows it's YOUR meat, and not his! Okay- let's see how they do with the pork.

Pork went over well!! When I got home they had eaten 3/4 of what I left out for them (which was a little more than 2 oz). Soxx actually went back into the cage and finished a bit more off after I woke them up too! Tonight's supper was lamb heart (2 oz), goat & veal kidney (1.5oz), 1 cgh gizzard, with CR turkey mixed in. The CR seems to be doing the trick...they easily ate 3/4+ of supper tonight too. I am very proud of my buggers AND! AND! I just learned tonight that in a few weeks we (my family) are going to be taking delivery of half a pig -- AND! MY MOM ASKED FOR ORGANS FOR MEEEEEE now thats love!

Fantastic!!! We'll keep at them with the organs just to make sure they're eating them. I'm so excited for you!!! Okay- a couple oh questions in the interim that may sound silly, but have to be asked. I need you to let me know what you could substitute for the proteins in your menu if you come across them. It's so I know that you understand HOW to substitute So, can you give me an example of a muscle meat, a different consumable bone, and an organ other than liver/kidney. Ones that you aren't at present feeding

Muscle meat...heart, gizzard, meat without bone (rabbit, turkey, duck, lamb, goat, goose, beef, chicken, CGH, pork, venison...) Tongue counts as muscle meat too correct?
Consumable bone...do spare ribs count? (I actually wondered this the other day while I was at the grocery store). Ox tail. Commercially ground raws that include bone.
Organs....brain, spleen...can ferrets have tripe? lung (although I do already feed that one).
I forgot to thaw out their CGH bone-in for this morning...so they are finishing the kidney/tongue that they didn't eat and the rest of the pork chops from yesterday. They did GREAT with the kidney & heart last night, polished it off except for a few pieces. So far they've eaten half of what I gave them for kidney/tongue and before I leave I'll put the pork out. Tonight will be CGH bone-in.

Got it in one Okay, they are eating chunks, bone in, heart, kidney, and the only thing they are having trouble with is lamb liver correct? How are they about other livers? They will eat chicken and turkey livers if I remember correctly? Or was that someone else's ferrets

Chunks, bone-in, kidney & liver are all good to go. It was the lamb heart that they refused to eat. I haven't tried it mixed withe commercial raw yet, though. Yesterday (I think) I gave them a mix of organs (kidney, liver) with a little bit of heart thrown in, all mixed together with CR, and they ate it then. Sooo with slightly smaller pieces & mixed with CR they might eat it. They have no problem eating chicken or turkey hearts though...just the lamb. Brats ;D
They're doing well with the CGH bone-in tonight.

Okay, what I need you to do now is to post a formal menu with all the proteins they are eating! We'll see if we need to do any tweaking and then get you graduated

Saturday AM duck necks Saturday PM lamb tongue (3oz) & goat kidney (2.5 oz) mixed w/CR turkey Sunday AM chicken wings Sunday PM lamb heart Monday AM pork chops Monday PM lamb heart (2 oz), goat & veal kidney (2oz), 1 cgh gizzard, mixed w/CR turkey Tuesday AM kidney (2oz) and tongue, mixed w/CR turkey Tuesday PM CGH Bone-in Wednesday AM duck necks Wednesday PM CGH bone-in Thursday AM liver (2oz per ferret), CGH & lamb Thursday PM chicken wings Friday AM CGH bone-in Friday PM chicken wings Proteins: CGH, duck, chicken, pork, goat, veal, lamb Organs: kidney, liver 8 bone-in meals 3 boneless meals (including the meals that have tongue, meals of heart) 6.5 oz kidney (will alternate w/beef lung weekly & other organs when available) 6 oz liver 6 oz heart How's that? They eat the organs better when it's mixed with about 0.5-1 tbsp CR...of which I have plenty...so I am not adverse to continuing that. I didn't list the turkey as a protein source because it's such a minute amount. I'm thinking about including a bit of pumpkin with their organ meals because their organ poops are icky

See....I told you, that you and your little ones could do this Sherry's an awesome mentor Congratulations you've graduated and you're ready to walk this path alone, now. You have the foundation to help you feed your fuzzes in a more natural and healthy manner. Please remember that your learning never stops, and dietary needs change from ferret to ferret (as I'm sure you are more than aware of) and throughout each their lives. I would also like you to be aware that though you now have the capability and the knowledge to create and adjust your little ones diets, you are never alone and that your mentor (you need only pm) is always available to you. The list is also a very good resource and you should always be aware that it's available to answer any questions you may have either about diet or care. Despite graduating, please continue to search out other protein sources to expand and improve your little ones diet. Good luck, in a few days either Sherry or I will lock down this thread. If you wish to update your menu do so now as it will be viewed and can be used by yourself and many others at any time as a reference tool. Once it gets locked down you will not be able to post or change it. Your mentor will be in to congratulate you shortly . Good luck . Congratulations again ciao
