Yup, an elevator. He has already got the design drawn out and figured out how to keep them safe etc. He just needs to research what kind of motor/power he will need and decide how to work the switches. It has to be something we can train them to work themselves that they can easily maneuver. Luckily they are clever and deft so it should not be too hard.
We have high ceilings in our 2 second story bedrooms. The spare room has a loft built in as a partial third story, our room has a closet with a little ledge over it. We were thinking of someday putting down sheets of lexan over the rafters so they can see down and we can see up and sealing the sides safely so they have a playroom suspended in air of sorts. I imagine that would be where we would install the elevator, although we could run tunneling up there as well.

They are very spoiled. Now that I am at home all day they spend pretty much 24/7 with access to all 4 of their cages and their playroom and all of their tunnels. They get very upset if you take it away for any length of time.

WOW! That is really neat what you have done with the tunnels! I bet they have a blast in there!

Absolutely brilliant set up! I'd love to even just do a full wall maze in the ferrets room, not sure my husband would be ok with the whole house but I'm showing him this when he gets home!

I want to be a ferret in your house! Lady and Pig would LOVE to come play! Mo-mo would not care. He would find a place to tuck Dow and sleep. Silly baby! Wish I had the money and walls to do things like this! (can't drill holes in apartment walls) :-(

I want to see the elevator. Are you going to use a switch system or a weight induced system? I would love to see that set up. I'm also interested in your water park. It's got to be wonderful to have an engineer on board though. ciao

Matt has the designed figured out and sketched, but right now we've got nowhere to set it up. I think he was going to go with a switch and train the ferrets how to toggle it. His biggest worry was what to do about a ferret standing under the elevator when it came down and landing on top of them.

What if you used a infra red or lazer tag similar to what is used in garage doors? This would prevent the crushing of little ones. The ones used for garage doors is very effective ciao

That's what I'm thinking. Though then we have to have it reverse and go back up to the top so that there's not a ferret sitting there stuck in the unit.
