That is just crazzzy Just curious, how do you check for poop in the tunnel? We don't. They don't really sleep or stay in the tunnels long, they just go from place to place in them and occasionally stay in one spot for a minute or two to claw at a spot or wrestle another ferret in their way. They've started bringing toys in to stash in the tunnels too, lol. No one is large enough to get stuck- Muder is the largest at 3 lbs 7 oz and he still has plenty of clearance- enough so apparently that the second fattest ferret Zar'thun can actually squeeze past him in the tunnel. I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it happen. I think the fur makes them look a lot larger than they are sometimes. A 4" tube is plenty of clearance for the majority of most ferrets unless they are overweight.

Oooh boy, looks like we will have loads more pics eventually to put up. We found a site having a great sale on the hard tubing- $4-5 a piece instead of the $8 we normally pay so we are probably going to bite the bullet and buy enough to finish putting up hard tubing instead of the soft everywhere since we're looking at a ~$300 savings. A couple of the ferrets enjoy trying to shred the soft stuff a wee bit too much.

If you had to put a number on it, how much do you think you've spent on the setup?

4 Triple unit Ferret Nations, bought on sale usually I figure $330 shipped each x4=$1320. We think we have spent about $1,000 on soft and hard tubing, including the tunnel we are buying today. Add into that the cost of the wood boards, screws, mollys, zip ties, roofing tin, duct tape and brackets used to put up the tunneling is several hundred dollars probably. We've easily spent a couple of grand at Lowe's buying tools and whatnot though I don't consider all of that sunk tunnel cost because we needed a good drill and whatnot anyway and would have eventually bought it regardless. Also not included is the cost of the steel, nuts and bolts, gate valves and quick releases we use to create access to the tunnels and connect them to the cage. All figured, it's probably over $5,000. Never mind the cost of furnishing the cages themselves ,the ferrets, food, litter and vet appointments.

DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG I HAVE BEEN PLANNING THIS OUT? ;D We still have an elevator to build and a super water park cage at some point... When we can figure out how to get the materials cheap enough, we want to sell people starter kits. But it's just not affordable yet. I can't find the gate valves or quick releases and gaskets from a supplier to get whole sale pricing. Never mind the steel. We're still looking into it. If we figure out how to build the gate valve systems with less pieces and make it less bulky it would be cheaper. The bf has some ideas, just haven't gotten it figured out entirely yet. As for how we like it? Oh yes, we love it! We get very upset when our tunnels get taken away from us. They love the power of the choice and freedom to go sleep or play wherever they want really. We rage and claw at the gate valves when they are shut and roll around the cage bickering when we can't have it, spoiled rotten brats.
