EVO Ferret and Orijen Cat, would they be good to mix together? I wouldn't strictly feed ferrets these kibbles, I would take consideration to more variety such as whole meats/bones/etc.

First, are you talking about feeding kibble, and supplementing with raw? Just make sure to leave several hours between those feedings. Some do well with it, other ferrets can get some really upset tummies. As for the kibbles, it's always a good idea to feed a mixture of at least 2, preferably 3. And one should be something you can get fairly easily. If there's a problem with production, or supply, or the producer changes the recipe even a little bit, you could well wind up with a ferret who flatly refuses to eat And since those are both kibbles, no reason you can't mix them.

I use Orijen, Wellness Core, and Blue Buffalo. I stopped using Evo because it was bought out by P&G and they bought Iams and the food got recalled. I do give them soups with ground meat.

Something like that..I may not consider giving them the alternative to the kibble every single day, you know? I may discuss that in further detail with a veterinarian. That's very true when it comes to kibble..one seems more readily available than the other, at least in my area. I normally purchase from Global Pet Foods. I may consider the 8 in 1 Ultimate as well, seeing as it's semi-popular too, not too sure though. I think if there's no way to replenish any of the kibble I give them, I may slowly work them into a strictly raw diet, maybe some cooked (though I realize that cooked meat can lose some of it's value, at least that's what I've heard).

I may discuss that in further detail with a veterinarian. Please understand the only "education" vet's are provided with at school is done by Hill's now So unless they've studied it on their own, they really don't know what a raw diet is about. Just that they've been told how "dangerous" it is (though I realize that cooked meat can lose some of it's value, Let's put it this way- if you were to give a cooked diet, you'd have to add in all the supplements that have now been cooked out of it. From taurine to calcium, phosperous, all the vitamins, everything. Please read through some of the stickies in the diet section if you are truly interested in examining both sides of the picture

That makes sense now that you mention it..I've heard stories like that. You're right about the vet..though I'm sure my dad may bring up the subject whenever we go just so he could prove what information I've gained to be wrong. I'll make him stay in the waiting room, haha. Thank you Sherry, you've been very helpful. I'll be sure to take a look at the other posts.

Would it perhaps be a better idea to see if I can get Global Pets to ship Wysong Archetype I and use that instead of EVO?

But if you are going to use freeze dried, why not rehydrate it, and start mixing in some raw tidbits

Yeah! I was thinking it would go pretty well with some raw food (once hydrated). Or even a broth? I checked out that website briefly before, and didn't think to see how the price is + shipping and whatnot. Wow, reasonable prices indeed.

Canned pumpkin is a commonly used alternative here. It's also cheap and pretty easy to find ;D Just have to make sure it's 100% pumpkin... not pumpkin pie mix (which has spices added).

Wysong ferret Epigen 90 looks like best one on the market. Caseys hidden pantry has it and they ship anywhere.
