The new Ferret Epigen 90 has 20% fat, which (from my limited understanding of kibbles) seems pretty standard for the high end kibbles.
Also, I found that feeding 3 high end kibbles was more expensive than feeding a complete raw diet (3 proteins, organs, heart).
Carnivores aren't designed to eat a dry food - they derrive the majority of their water from their meals. Raw meat is something like 80% water, so feeding a dry food leaves ferrets on the edge of dehydration. Ferrets lack the urge to actually drink enough water to hydrate them properly.
This is why dehydration in kibble fed ferrets is often so much more severe then it is in raw fed ferrets.
We have a mentoring program too, that can help switch your ferret to a balanced raw diet of your choice.

Posted by miamiferret2 on Today at 8:26am Wysong ferret Epigen 90 looks like best one on the market. Caseys hidden pantry has it and they ship anywhere. Doesn't it have really high protein and less fat? I don't feed kibbles. but on the wysong.net website it reads "Contains an unprecedented 90% meat and organs, 60% protein, and 20% fat" it is called "epigen 90" because it is 90% meat. alot of times when a kibble company says that the food is "40% protein" they are including plant based proteins. ferrets require MEAT based proteins. so, i think this is why it is the superior kibble. 90% meat is very good considering all the crap that is out there. also, the wysong epigen 90 for ferrets does not have any starches or grains. the other "grain free" kibbles on the market STILL contain starch (usually either potatoes or peas). Starches are just as bad for their pancreas as grains are.

I gotcha, thank you for your help! I'll consider purchasing Epigen 90 as well as combining raw with their diet (perhaps making raw the majority of their intake), that would work out fine, right? 0: I liked Sherry's idea when it comes to hydrating the kibble with the addition of raw bits..

No, I was talking about rehydrating freeze dried foods Not the kibble. Freeze dried IS a commercial raw.

Wysong Ferret Archetypal 1 is freeze dried raw. It is chicken. You can rehydrate with water & add fresh meats to it. Get them chewing on real meat. If you feed raw, even freeze dried, your ferrets will eat & poop much less than they would on kibble. Although I have heard several people day that the Epigen goes a long way & they eat much less of it. There are several other brands of freeze dried you can use as well. I like Stella & chewys.

My mistake. I knew that too, lol. Would it be a good idea to try using both Epigen and Arch? (alongside actual raw, of course ) Or would it just be better to stick with one of those +the raw?

My personal opinion leans toward full raw ;D but if you want to feed all three, no reason you can't. Same thing goes even with epigen though. Leave some time in between in case of upset tummies

I would go full raw, it's just I can see there may be times where it might be inconvenient for preparation and whatnot. And whenever convenient, I'd be more than happy to provide my future fuzzies with raw food. I'd go with whole prey even, but can't due to other household members being very against that. ' Annoying I tell ya. I'm thinking I'll just go with Epigen..maybe switch to the other one at some point after, I can't be spending money on all three options, may as well go with two.
