I was wondering if it is possible to do a mix of Raw and Kibble? If so, how many times a week should I feed them Raw? I know I have to feed them Organs, and that at least ever other week they should eat a liver(I think) and then on the other weeks they should eat another form of organ. How difficult would you say it is to feed both. I've read about kibble and I plan on feeding them "Holistic kibble", probably will be kitten food.

If you plan on feeding kibble and supplementing with raw, try to do it on entirely separate days. Some ferrets get really upset tummies when the two are fed too close together. As for organs and the like, it depends on how many meals/days you plan on feeding kibble, and how many raw.

Since they are coming from a rescue they are on Kibble, I personaly don't like the idea of feeding them kibble. I'd much rather get them completely on raw, but until then, I'm not sure how many times I should feed them Raw in the first few week or so. 'Til they are on a completely raw diet, if I can get them to eat completely raw.

In that case, why don't you sign up for a mentor, and start a thread in the newbie question area to get started on the transition Odds are they won't recognize raw as food right away, hence the term "transition". It can take a while before they'll accept it as food

I am starting the switch and i am doing partial Raw, I am going to feed my ferrets kibble one day, raw the next then kibble ECT in case i ever run out of raw or kibble they can willingly eat the other. if you feed on the same day, it will upset their tummies because the foods digest at different rates

I may end up being a bit sqweemish around them eating raw meat, but I will get used to it...eventually. lol

It's really quite simple . I've not fed kibble in 15 yrs. That's over 30+ ferrets, 5 cats and 3 giant breed dogs later Once you get into it, it's easier than feeding kibble. Never again do you worry about a manufacturer messing up your kibbles, changing the recipe, poisoning your furfriends...never. Feeding them is as easy as going to the grocery store (which I did today...they're getting chicken legs ) ciao

you get used to it:) i have always been fond of raw foods for my animals ( Ferrets are my first carnivores i found you can even fed them raw!) i hand fed a peice of raw pork chops today! i was so happy he started to lick lick lick lick licked for a while then he started to chomp and LOVED it! it really depends on the ferret also my first two ferrets, Coda and Stiv are picky eaters ( not stiv when it comes to kibble) Hagrid was the first one to start lapping up the raw egg when i first tried that. anyway good luck!

Atleast cutting up raw meat wont be too hard for me, I love to cook, and raw meat is my domain. lol I just have to think of it as the Fuzzies are eating Sushi. How many times a day to you feed them? I had some one tell me any where from 2-5 that sounded a little off, but I am probably wrong

It depends on if you are feeding both. that actually sounds about right. though i am not mentor! you would have to ask Sherry it really depends on the amount of meat you give in each feeding you should sign up for the mentoring program! it only took a week or two for them to start my switching thread!

Well, I don't have the Fuzzies just yet, but I'm trying to get well prepared for what I'm getting into with this. After I get them, I am deffinately signing up for the mentoring program. lol. I'm basicallly a human encyclopedia, for Hamsters and want to become the same for these cute Fuzzies.

Raw meals are usually 2x a day. However, I leave the meat in my fuzz cage, and just replace/top off every 12 hours or so.
So feed 9 AM, leave some extra in cage for snacking. Then at 9 PM after play time, remove what's left, replace with fresh stuff, leave extra for midnight snacking, etc.
For kibble, I would be tempted to just free feed. Most ferrets don't overeat.
I would also be worried that the partial diet may be difficult to actually achieve. My ferrets would pick raw meat over kibble any day, and if that happened to you, you might have to just go full raw! ;D However, the opposite can happen with kibble. Because they know their getting kibble, they may hold out for the kibble, hindering the switch to raw
