His mouth is pretty sore, so I'd been giving him soups as I figured that would be easiest. He's eating good, and starting to act somewhat more normal. He's had a rough couple days, not feeling good. I think I may keep him on the soups for the rest of the week. And he can eat chunks when the other kids have chunks. So that will be good. At least now when another kid decides to get the squirts, I've got Kao on hand (no aspirin in it, yay!). But for Salem, we'll just stick with the pumpkin. She just can't take liquid meds. But she is definitely feeling better, she's been out and about in the room instead of sleeping in the cage all day.

That's great, I'm happy Salem's getting a bit of her energy back, and here's hoping Bomber starts feeling better soon!

Well, Bomber's "crater" is healing up nicely, so this morning I gave him his last bowl of soup and he's going back on whole raw. He had gizzards the other night and did great with those. He almost got in a fight over one with Evie; I think he's missed his normal raw! lol! I think he's also regaining the use of his lip and isn't slicing his lip nearly as bad with his lower canine. I'm glad, I was worried we'd have to do something about that one. I talked to two vets and they both said it could take two weeks for him to get used to it, so this is good! Since he's feeling better, I'm thinking about letting them have their evening romp in the apartment. Now that I've got Salem's illness under control and Bomber is feeling better, I feel I can focus on Penny more now. She's still doing good with chicken and CGH.

That's the attitude he needs! I take it the pumpkin is working for Salem?

Pumpkin seems to be working, only problem is she doesn't care for it. I try to disguise it well in the soup, but if it's not mixed well enough, she notices. lol. Bomber's pretty much back to normal now! He had his last dose of icky clindy yesterday morning. Penny had soup with bigger beef chunks last night and did well with that. But her favorite thing to do is stash every single chunk of meat in the bowl. I hold her still instead of letting her run off to hide it, and she eats it. But if you let her do her thing, well, you'll find little chunks of meat all over the place.

I can sympathize - of my four I have two that LOVE pumpkin (I just warm it up a bit in the micro), but Pixie and Yogi won't touch it unless it's swamped in baby food and Carnivore Care. If Pen's stashing is such a chronic thing, then think about using only enough soup to wet the chunks and give her that smell she's used to. She's young, so if she goes a bit hungry that won't hurt, but maybe right now the option she has might be slowing her down a bit.

Worked like a charm! Penny ate the heck out of some little pork chunks! Only used a wee bit of soup, just to give it that flavor. So proud! Now, maybe she will be tempted to try all those big ones she loves to stash.

\o/ That's so great! I can't wait to see if she *does* get more on track with the bigger chunks, too.
YAY PEN!

Pen is still doing good, she ate some diced hearts last night with a teeny bit of soup "gravy" and ate every bit. So I'm not worried about this girl, she'll be eating more variety in no time! But things are not looking good with Salem. I have been having to force feed her the past two days because she does not want to eat. I've got her scheduled to go to the vet on Friday. Soonest I could do it, I've got exams all week. She is having worse diarrhea, even with the pumpkin. I'm scared her pred may have already stopped working.

My thoughts are with you both! Right now, I don't know how Salem feels about it, but supplementing with baby food might work with her (she could possibly eat it on her own if it's something she likes), and it's one of the better alternatives for sicky ferrets.

Thanks Annie. I've been syringe-feeding her the past few days and even though it's force feeding, at least she's not fighting me. It's been a lot easier, since I can't get her to take anything from a spoon, bowl, or even finger. Today is her vet visit, so of course, she decides she's going to perk up and eat most of her breakfast on her own!! But that's a good sign, I think. I just hope the vet will have some good news for me. Oh, and Bomber? He's still cutting up his lip... so he's up next again for the vet. One more thing, Pen seems to not like beef. I tried putting a little bit of soup over it, but nope. Might have to go slower with the beef. But at least she seems to like pork!

Well, back from the vet. Salem got some sub-q fluids and some Nutrical to take home for her "bad days." Vet says it could be her pred starting to wear off, but to try this first. Really hoping the pred isn't wearing off and she will start feeling better. Might try feeding her some baby food if she still doesn't go for the soupies. I can't get that until tomorrow though, as hubby has the car tonight. Bomber's scheduled to go back in on Thursday to have another tooth extraction. Gah, it never ends! But he's slicing up his lip with it again, and the vet doesn't want to file it because they're afraid of exposing the pulp/root and that causing even more problems. I'd rather have it filed... but I gotta do something to keep him from destroying his lip. Poor guy!

Man, you have a lot on your plate. Maybe the caloric supplement will work for Salem - it is supposed to increase appetite, as well.
Poor Bomber, that can't be a fun time for him. Are these chipped teeth that are cutting his lip or misaligned?
As for Pen - yeah, beef can be tricky. It's a strong, RICH meat, and that can take awhile for them to adjust to (as well as HOW it's been prepared, as in ground or chunked. My guys more often it it ground than they will chunked. I guess chunked is just too much work for something they aren't enthusiastic about in the first place).

It's been one h*ll of a month, that's for sure!! But here's the good news! Salem ate on her own last night and this morning! The Nutrical definitely seems to be helping. I am so glad. I was in tears just a few days ago trying to get her to eat. It was very stressful. Looks like my little girl is going to be around a little longer. Thank goodness! The deal with Bomber is that he had one of his top canines removed a few weeks ago. They pulled it because it was dead. And that just started a whole new problem: now he's slicing up his lip with the canine that was below the one they pulled. I really don't want to pull it, but I don't want him cutting himself up on a regular basis either. *sigh* But that will be taken care of Thursday, and then hopefully after that I can just relax for once! I'll have to try the ground beef with Penny, see if she'll go for it. Maybe top it with some salmon oil, see what she does. Or maybe I could swap out the beef for some other protein source once I run out, since Gwenny doesn't really care for it either.

Oh, so - with the missing tooth - his lip isn't being held in the right shape. I can see where that would get him biting and scraping his lip. When Sabra chipped half her tooth (one of our dogs, sadly, went after her, and instead of biting him to get away, she missed and bit the wheel of our moveable island, instead. Besides that owie, though, she was unharmed, though, our dog was all bark and no bite, thank god!), she did the same thing for awhile before she adjusted to the change. For Bomber it has to be more of an issue because he doesn't have anything to hold that lip out of the way at, really. For the beef, you can also try mixing it with another meat. Start by mixing just a bit (usually ground works best) with the known, liked meat, and gradually add more of the beef and less of the 2nd kind as they start eating it. Sometimes that works, too (and you can still dribble that with the oil, if you want)
