Yep, that sounds about right! Here's a pic, just to show you what it looks like: Poor guy, he's been slicing it up good. I tried to move his appointment to today but they were booked. So just gotta wait til Thursday. But here's some great news! Penny ate beef! I tried the teeny chunks with soup gravy and she ate all of it! I'm very pleased. She's almost there now. Just gotta get her eating big chunks of pork and beef and she'll be good to go. Same with Gwen. I tried to get Gwen to try the little beef chunks but she was not wanting it at all. She may actually have to try ground beef first. But we're getting very close! So this is good! Other good news, Salem ate today with no Nutrical needed! She is feeling better and actually explored the house today.

Oh, man, yeah, I can definitely see where the problem's coming from now. Poor thing.
And yay progress for Pen! I love switching the young guys a lot, it tends to be less hectic (but getting those older ones on the diet is often really, really rewarding *after* the trauma fades, ;D ). For Gwen, ground beef may work with her (and remember, try a bunch of different "treat" combos - sometimes soup, sometimes baby food, sometimes oil, maybe a combo lightly coated on the top and some mixed in [for the smell]. Who knows what will spark her interest enough to try it!)

His surgery went well, but he had a pretty bad day at the vet overall. I left him there without his carrier, because he had figured out how to open it on the way there and I didn't want him escaping at the vet. Picked him up and they told me he had ripped out a toenail trying to dig out of their cage. The toe is swollen and yucky looking but ok, and they don't know if it will regrow or not. I hope it does. He's resting for now. They gave me an e-collar, but I haven't had to use it yet, thankfully! Feel so bad for my baby boy! He's had so much done in the past month. Hoping this is the last of it for a while! Salem's still doing really good, she's been eating on her own for the past few days with no Nutrical needed! I try to use that stuff sparingly, as it's got so much sugar in it. Well, that's about it for updates. Nothing new with the switch today.

I'm glad that Salem's picking up, that's so great, but oh my god, your poor little boy! He's just having a bad time of it! Thanks for the update

He seems back to himself today. He was dancing and hissing and playing with me this evening after work. Not much going on here, been working all weekend and spent this afternoon grooming and de-fleaing a badly matted cocker spaniel mix. Took me a few hours to get through all the hair and mats. Totally worth it, she looks great now and I've found her a good home where I will get to be her personal groomer. ^^ Hopefully this week I will have some good updates!

Cocker spaniel mixes seem bad for matts (we have a cocker spaniel mix, Betty, and we have to get her routinely groomed, ie shaved, at our vet, too). But that sounds like great news overall!

God, I feel so bad I've been neglecting this thread. I just haven't had too much to update on, diet-wise. I haven't even gotten to try the ground beef yet! Which I really need to because Gwen is still being really stubborn, I tried cutting the beef chunks as tiny as I could but she was just not giving in. Couldn't even do the scruff and stuff with her. She just doesn't want it! I'm not sure what to do about Salem's poops now. The pumpkin isn't working for her now, and neither is the kaopectate. Every time she poos it's a nasty yellow slime. I saw something somewhere about slippery elm bark powder. You mix it in with the soups and it's supposed to help better regulate the digestive system or something like that. I'm wondering if it's worth trying.

Finally, I have great diet-related news!! Gwen ate pork chunks tonight! Not just little ones, I'm talking about the ones I give Bomber and Evie normally! Woot! So let's see... just got to get her eating beef, and get Penny eating larger chunks of pork, beef, and gizzards and we're pretty much there! I'm going to try Penny on rabbit and quail eventually, but it's not in the budget right now so it's going to have to wait. Have had a lot come up this month!

Poor Salem - I've heard about that, as well, have you posted in the forum about it? I know some people on here were knowledgeable in herbal remedies (I'm sadly not).
That's great for Gwen! I know Salem's on soup, but is Gwen and Penny still getting that, as well?

Yeah, I started up a thread about it. I picked up some capsules and I'm going to try it out tonight. Heather has been a great help! Gwen and Pen don't get soups other than the teeny bit I add to beef and pork to entice them. So we're definitely getting there.

So Monday was one of the worst days of my life. holisticferret60.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=vetting&action=display&thread=2548&page=1I'm just thankful I didn't lose him. It was a horrible, nightmareish ordeal. Glad it's over, though I'm still de-stressing. He's been mostly resting. Tomorrow I plan on taking off his bandage, I was too paranoid to do it today and feel better about doing it tomorrow. In other news, Penny ate whole gizzards tonight! Yay! I was going to chop one up for her but she had already nabbed one of the whole ones and went to town on it. So that was awesome.

Oh, hon, I'm so sorry. Thank god he's better and home now. That must have been horrible. Go, Pen, for showing incentive! That's great

He is doing sooo much better, in fact I think he is regrowing his nail! I'm happy about that because I was wanting to show him in the future and didn't know if that would hurt his score in any way. lol! Penny just turned a year old and is going in for her distemper shot tomorrow. Also, I've got some ground beef I'm going to try on Gwen this week. I'll let you know how that goes!

That's great news! And it sounds like things are going accordingly, so I bet that's a relief for you AND your guys. I can't wait to see how Gwen behaves with the ground beef.
