It was an ugly legs kind of day today. The Rawbble came, and he took to it right away (sometimes he needs to be exposed to a new food for a few days before he starts trusting it). Smells like toasted chicken skin, which is nicer than herring oil. Nothing wrong with herring oil being included in some of the freeze dried raws, just makes the room smell like a fishing pier. There is also a Rawbble kibble, but I don’t like the ingredients and won’t be straying from their freeze dried line. So now we have a replacement for the chicken recipe Instinct.

So he does! He’s also a lookalike to UncleJoe’s Scamp.

His tail is slowly losing fur again, so I’ve scheduled his second Suprelorin implant for September 23rd as I’m going away the last week of August and boarding him for 10 days because of the trip starting and ending on Saturdays (when they don’t do intake) and the Monday immediately after being labour day (so they’re closed to pickups). I want to be able to observe him afterward during the hormone influx. Then the first few weeks of September will be filled with makeup work from my absence and I can’t take off to go to a non emergency appointment until then.

he's not that old is he? and not as much trouble as Scamp, I hope. Poor Scamp wasn't around long enough to get any of the Big 3, but he'd be 8 now if he was.
I've had a lot happen in the last 2 weeks so I've been absent, biggest being e-vet visit for Mr Frodo suspected insulinoma and a motorcycle crash last Friday. No injuries, minor damage, but the insurance and police reports have had me distracted. Frodo is doing better, (rescued with Casper) but Casper is due for his implant soon.
That said, when casper got his implant last year a couple days after I rescued him, I was giving him oral liquid melatonin for about 3 months and his tail fur grew back some, but not to the tip of his tail. I just don't have the funds to get the implant every 6 months, but Casper is doing ok. when you pick him up, it feels like he weighs more than he looks like he should. I have no idea how old he is. Best wishes and prayers for Churchill!

Nah, he’s only 2.5! I have no idea why he got it so early. It’ll be given about 11 months after his first on the date I scheduled, but if I wasn’t allowing for the balding to progress much at all, should’ve been given at 9 months. It happened so fast that it went from “huh, didn’t that used to be a little fuller” to “oh jeeze the tip is showing through” over that 9th month.
Sorry to hear about the motorcycle accident, glad you weren’t hurt. Hope your ferrets push on through.

Look at how quickly his tail is balding! I’ll see if I can get a sooner date to get his implant when I pick him up on the third.

don't expect instant results with the implant. Casper had one the day after I got him and nearly a year later his tail is not fully furred. I was giving him liquid oral melatonin for about 6 months and it never filled in completely. you could add a ferratonin implant when he gets the des. it will help quite a bit. I may do that for Casper. I have new ferret vet and he seems to know his stuff better than the last one. years ago when the des implant became unavailable for a time, MOe got a lupron depot and ferratonin and his fur grew back in a month, from almost bald. no kidding. the last vet suggested just the melatonin implant until I mentioned supralorin.

Oh I know, Winnipeg was on the suckers in the end too, I think he got three before passing away. He started getting them much later in life than Churchill. I discussed the Ferretonin implant with my vet years ago and he seemed to not like it because he said I might be dosing melatonin by mouth anyway to keep up. I don’t remember Winnipeg’s dosage for melatonin liquid but it was in his old thread that I can look up later.

I wonder if the folks claiming such cheap implants in the group aren't getting melatonin instead of DES? Some of them are claiming prices less than the DES costs the vet!
UncleJoe, glad you weren't injured. The students are back so we haven't been riding much in town these days. I don't know how they can "not see" a big ole trike, but it happens!

Got him back yesterday and he ESCAPED the repurposed mouse breeding bin/luxury travel condo on the drive home! I had to hold onto him squirming and scratching me for 45 minutes (the boarding place is quite a distance away). He beat my arms up good with his back feet and kept licking me as a form of saying “please put me down, I’ll be good.” All is otherwise well, though I wasn’t able to secure a sooner day off than the 23rd for his implant. Tail didn’t progress much anyway. It took me a sec to figure out how he got out, there’s a little flex in the sides of the lid and locking snaps on either end, I thought he forced his way out the side lid but then I saw that one of the locking clips was undone, so he didn’t have to try hard to get out. Our mistake.

I told you he looked like trouble, lol, because he looks like Scamp. That ferret required constant supervision.
I'm still waiting for the bike shop to call and say they got all the parts. ( 2 weeks today) meanwhile, I've been perusing ebay and found some of the required parts for 1/3 what he wants to charge. when I take the bike in, there will be a conversation. I expected there to be a markup, but not 300%. And meanwhile, I gave them a substantial deposit... I could do all the work myself, but I thought I'd help out a local business that does my bike tires...

I meant to ask, why don't you just use a kat carrier?
