If I remember correctly, there was a case similar to this on the old forum, where a female rescue had been in heat for an extended period of time. Jill jab didn't work, and they had to do surgery anyway. Ferret did live through the surgery, but she needed donated blood, and it was very touch and go.

Ok finally heard back from her, still trying to decide what to do. I did some reading on the FHL and they said a lupron shot could be used to get a ferret out of heat as well?

I seem to recall something to that effect as well.

Well I had offered to pay for some vet care for the intact girl and they turned that down, just want a home because they can't afford them at all. Not real sure what to do because I can't take her back and forth to Duluth if whatever hormone shot doesn't work and I can't afford a spay right now, especially with Pip's whatever issue and not knowing what that bill might be. Not to mention if they need to spay in heat and get blood donated the bill would jump a lot. Wouldn't be so hard if the vet did payment plans or if they were just in my town. I'm going to contact a rescue in her state and see what they think, maybe they can do a spay for cheaper or have a place for her or can help in some way. I guess one place she talked to would pay half the spay but in another town farther away. I don't know if she's willing to split them up but I could take the other girl.

So update, heard from the owner today and they said the ferrets were heading to a rescue I had suggested to her and thanked me for letting them know about it. I guess it took a bit with transportation (the rescue is a state over) but these girls will be getting the care they need now. I'm going to send a donation to the rescue on payday for them. I'm so happy to hear this!!!
