Yeah so now I'll incorporate that into my Frankenprey menu. So for his bone in meals I'll alternate rabbit and chicken.

He's going to be a happy ferret. So, right now you have chicken, beef and rabbit, correct? Yes, so now his diet will be: Mon AM - chicken bone in Mon PM - beef (egg as a treat and hairball prevention) Tues AM - rabbit bone in Tues PM - beef Wed AM - chicken bone in Wed PM - heart Thurs AM - rabbit bone in Thurs PM - beef Fri AM - chicken bone in Fri PM - heart/liver/kidney Sat AM - rabbit bone in Sat PM - beef Sun AM - chicken bone in or rabbit bone in Sun PM - liver/kidney If I can find a turkey wing or something, I'll grab that for him too. Maybe I'll see about pork too but I'm just not sure about how big the bone is in those. If his stool is on the runny side I'll switch out one of his beef meals to a bone in meal. I'm going to try to crush up the egg shell enough into a powder so that I can mix that in with his egg and see if he will eat it. That should help too. When I picked up the rabbit today the lady at the butcher said they got pork kidney in too, so I got one of those too! My freezer is stocked with all of his food all portioned out in 2 oz portions. The liver and kidney are in 1 oz portions.

Your menu is shaping up nicely. Turkey is good -- sometimes I am able to find necks which my boys like. Also, my boys LOVE pork kidney. Not sure what else you have by you but venison or buffalo might be liked since he likes beef.

Ok so Charlie hasn't eaten all his food the last couple of days. Wednesday morning he was given chicken with bone in. I gave him 2 oz and he ate 1 1/4 oz. and left 3/4 oz. Then last night he got chicken hearts. He ate some and I was expecting that to be all gone. He again ate 1 1/4 oz and left 3/4 oz. I think some of that chicken is even from the night before. So I have put it in 3 meals in a row and he left. it. This morning I gave him rabbit and he ate 3/4 oz. so far. I removed the other stuff.
Am I giving him too much then? He use to eat all 2 oz. before, especially when it was beef.

How old is Charlie? and what is his total consumption for a day? I would like to see more variety but it is a 3 protein minimum and it follows logic. I would be constantly on the look for more proteins that could possibly be added. What about duck, quail, pheasant and goose are both really steep up here. Turkey ribs and smashed turkey necks are also a good possibility and easily attained. Pork is a good option but the bones are too heavy so it would be good for a meat only. You can also add a bony fish which you could feed every couple of weeks as well. Just some options that I use and are easily accessed ciao

You can also add a bony fish which you could feed every couple of weeks as well. Just some options that I use and are easily accessed ciao Charlie is now 7 months old as of April 13th. He is usually eating around 4 oz. of food a day. I would like to add more variety of meat to his menu as well but like you said, it's steep up here. I'm also in Ontario, Canada. I keep checking the stores for other proteins. Most stores around here don't sell turkey unless it's around the holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving but I can get it ground. It's the bone in that's hard to get with smaller bones for him to eat. I've not seen duck in the stores or quail and I went to a butcher to see if I could get it there but they don't get it either. It seems that getting wild meats are hard to get or I will have to pay quite a bit for it. The rabbit I got was $20!! I can add pork as a meat only and alternate that with beef, but I'm trying to find more bone in options. I was thinking of whole prey (mice). I think I can get that and add that once or twice a week.

Charlie ate all his beef tonight except 1 piece. He was rather funny with it too. He wanted to come out of his cage with it and I said no and shut the cage door so he proceeded to put it under some towels where he likes to hide his food. Then I opened the cage door again so he could come out. Then he went back grabbed the beef and tried to come out, and again I closed the door so he put it back and I opened the door. We went back and forth a few times until he got the hint not to bring out his food. Lol. But after tonight that 1 piece will be gone! He will have eaten all his food today!
So my conclusions are he likes rabbit and beef! He usually eats all his hearts (except last night) and organs too for the most part. And he's not too keen on chicken.
I will be on the hunt to try other meats with him, particularly with bone in so that I can offer him 3 different bone in meats since he's not super excited about chicken and rotate them.

Various rodents are a good idea as well. Your in Ontario, where? Don't be specific a general area would work. I too live in ON and finding meats (nicely priced meats) is difficult and I'm always on the prowl for meats but there are some suppliers of whole prey if you've got a freezer. Sometimes some of the mom and pop shops carry oddities and different meats. Surprisingly, on time I found frogs legs at a local loblaws which unfortunately hasn't occurred again as my guys loved them. Rabbit right now has priced itself right out of the market so I guess I'm going to have to go to my supplier and get whole rabbit instead of dressed rabbit. If you have friends that hunt it too is an option, though I've not fed wild game in many years (the ferrets on the other hand do have a different idea on that particular option though {sigh} ciao

I'll start with pinkies first I think. Start small. I'm in southern Ontario. So yeah finding a variety of meats isn't easy that are reasonably priced. The rabbit was a bit pricey. Charlie eats better then me!! LOL I saved some of that rabbit for me! He can eat the ribs lol I did chop up half the rabbit for him though. Yeah, I don't have a separate freezer, only what's in my fridge, which is small. I measure and prep food for myself as well so my freezer is stocked full! I spoke with my mom and apparently there is quail in one of the Metro stores so I'll have a look tonight. She said it comes in packages of 6 in the frozen section. I'm always looking in the fresh section and never thought to look there. She said she will save me turkey wing tips. I'll look at pork button bones/ribs whatever they are called. LOL I had no idea what that was but after talking to my mom she told me so I should be able to find that. Charlie took a real liking to the rabbit so I have a feeling he would love wild meat. I saw a rabbit in my back yard today. I should have had my dog catch it!!! She's a good little hunter too! She caught 2 already.

Congrats, Charlie! So proud of you and your little guy. I look forward to hearing the new meats you find for him. And what a wonderful game you and he played with the meat. LOL He's quite a character.
