You can also take a hatchet or small axe to a frozen rabbit, LOL (I have yet to try a powertool, but I will at some stage.. mwhuahaha!). I get frozen rabbits, and usually I partially thaw and portion then, but there is always the first option if you are in a rush or just don't wanna bother with a partial or full thaw.
It sounds like he is doing and that you have got the diet down pretty well.
You can definitely decrease if you are dealing with a lot of waste, I always like to see at least a bite or two left in the bowl by the time I change to the next meal, that way I know everyone ate enough versus nothing remaining entirely which could mean that someone didn't get enough as if there had still been anything to eat they may have been able to eat it.

Actually I bought a frozen rabbit from the butcher and he cut it for me in 1 inch cubes! I can also get rabbit in the grocery store for around the same price but if the butcher can cut it up for me, even better! I do have a meat clever! Is it ok to give ground beef as a meat meal? I read somewhere you weren't suppose to. I don't see why not. It's cheaper then stewing meat right now. I can definitely see when you have 2 or more ferrets to always have a little extra left. It's easier to keep track with 1 ferret. Lol. Sometimes I will leave in his other meal and give him his new meal depending on how much is left and if it's starting to smell terrible. I found the chicken tends to go bad, especially the fatty skin. Thank you so much for your feedback, much appreciated!

Actually, my two go through times of eating all their food and then some days they leave quite a bit. My two are funny about turkey necks and if they don't eat it right away they seem to smell more and then get tossed and not held for the next feeding.

He is now eating all his food again, which is so great!!! I couple times he didn't when he was at the sitter's house and at my sister's house. He is now at home and in his familiar surroundings and doing real well!!

Charlie is back to eating up his food! Yay!!!
My dog caught a little rabbit while my mom was dog sitting. She never thought to save the rabbit for me to give to Charlie. My 13-15 year old dog still has it. (Not sure of her real age) She's a hunter! My neighbour's cat is quite the little hunter too and caught a little rabbit. My neighbour saved it for me so now it's in my freezer for the next 3 weeks then I'll attempt to feed it to Charlie!
Any advice from any of the whole prey feeders??

Glad Charlie is back on he eating program! Do you want to chop it up to feed or are you thinking about giving him the whole rabbit at once? As one ferret, depending on the size of the rabbit, it is most likely too large for him. That might not matter to you - wasn't sure. LindaM can you assist with the whole prey questions?

That's a great question! Never thought to chop it up. I thinking this little rabbit is about the size of Charlie. It may be too large for him. It is frozen so maybe I can chop it up or in half? I just weighed it and it's about 10 oz

That may be a better question to ask some of the whole prey feeding mentors. I don't actually feed whole prey to my crew yet, cost-wise it's still a bit out of budget for our group of 5. Back at the time when I had only 2 ferrets, I always worried that with the larger prey, chopping it up and dealing out portions of it, kinda just takes you back to doing Frankenprey, especially if you have only one or two ferrets and the single animal ends up being several meals before it's finally gone, vs smaller prey like a mouse or rat. If your temperatures are decent and not very humid or super hot, whole prey can generally be left out up to 48 hours, which should cover a few meals. Sherry, Heather, katt any advice?

10 oz....I would be tempted to cut it in half. Is this a dressed rabbit or whole ciao

I would divide it into meals for sure. If it’s innards are intact you would be best removing the intestinal tract. They tend to not eat that anyways...and it smells...

I'd gut while semi frozen(easier), then chop.
