Ferret's name:BOOGER 2. Ferret's weight:2.2 lbs 3. Ferret has eaten about 2 ounces amount on average per meal.I'm still determining this. seems it may be more than 2 ounces, but using 2 ounces to figure the organ meals. 4. Stools on various proteins--pretty good, but still poops out some undigested meats- much smaller amounts now. He seems to need all the bone-in meals with no muscle substitutions. 5. Activity levels: great and greatest! 6. Weekly menu:week of March 6th with editsYou are right LindaM, that Booger is going to make a planner out of me! Sunday am Duck bone-in, shrimp treats pm organs-- CK liver+ PK kidney Ate 4 shrimp during night.
Monday am CK wing flats pm Duck neckTuesday am Duck legpm Pork Musc. I n the morning still there next to bowl! Once out of cage, still wouldn't eat it so I pulled it apart into smaller pieces and it was gone in no time. But that kind of went with the frog legs so no pork belly given.Wednesday am Frog legs and porkbelly for fat (not given) pm PK heart (switched to chicken hearts) Thursday am Quail pm CK wing Friday am PK riblets pm CK heart + Lamb liver + spleen? (if I have it by then) Saturday am Duck feet + a little lamb muscle OR may do duck neck if foot not liked pm Lamb Musc. Sunday am CK NK pm organs- PK liver+ pancreas? (if I Have it)

Ps for fish. A lot of people feed salmon fillets which would count as a muscle, I feed whole catfish which count as a bone in I'm loving the variety you've found to feed them! Have they not had the duck feet yet?

Catfish sounds good. I was told that bigger fish have higher amounts of toxins than little fish. It seems that Booger got a little lazy with his eating. I edited above that I had to pull apart his pork muscle meat before he would eat it-- ugh! And it seems that the only food he eats almost all the bone from is frog legs. He eats only some bone in the necks and riblets. Which brings up the answer to your question about duck feet. He ate some of the top of the leg and never touched the webbed feet. I will have to try again later. Haven't tried chicken feet yet only the duck feet. I got my spleen and pancreas today! YAY!!!! I saw a post about a protocol for possible blockage and thought I might want to familiarize myself with that. Do you know where I can find it? Thank you!

Ooh, I actually forgot about catfish. Tess is right, that's another good fish option to try, especially since it seems little Booger is getting a bit more troublesome with eating some of his bone-in meals. The riblets are a bit tougher than other bone-in options, and not all ferrets seem to like to eat them. Same can kinda be said about necks. Overall, chicken necks are pretty easy, duck neck is in the middle, and turkey neck is the toughest out of the three I believe, thus smashing it up good with a hammer or some ferrets won't even touch it. Mine love getting their duck necks, but I know some ferrets aren't too fond of them and would rather eat turkey or chicken necks. And sometimes, just like little kids, they're just trying to hold out for something else they want. Other than the frog's legs, is he eating the quail okay? As for the Blockage Protocol... yea, it's good to learn this one by heart just in case the need to use it if an emergency ever arose. You should keep some original Vaseline (petroleum jelly without anything added to it) and a tin of 100% pure pumpkin (generally found in the baking aisle of most stores) if you can. Some ferrets don't like the pumpkin or are fussy with the Vaseline, while some take to it easy. If you have trouble with either, you can warm the pumpkin a little, or even add a bit of water and you can add a little oil to either if needed. The first time I had to run the Protocol with Athena I had to drizzle a little egg in with both pumpkin and Vaseline each time or she wouldn't take it. Usually you want to continue the Protocol until you see some nice orange poops come out. Bear in mind, that if your ferret starts throwing up at any stage during the Protocol or are really lethargic and hard to rouse, or stop pooping entirely, you need to get them to the nearest vet ASAP and request a Barium X-Ray to check for blockages. Sometimes the Barium will help push a blockage out, and other times surgery will be required to remove the blockage. Blockage Protocol: 1st Hour - 1 tbsp of Pumpkin 2nd Hour - 1 tsp of Vaseline 3rd Hour - 1 tbsp of Pumpkin 4th Hour - 1 tsp of Vaseline Repeat until you get orange poops. This post by Katt shows how easily a blockage could occur: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/13211/blockages-all-takes

Katt was kind enough to set the website up for us to make finding our various bits of info so much easier holisticferretforum.com/health/blockages/blockage-protocol/With bone, he is still strengthening his jaws. Frog legs are easier to crunch through than neck. However if it is really becoming and issue give him something like a segmented wing 3 or 4 meals in a row. If he learns he has to eat what he's got, instead of waiting on something he'd prefer then he will start crunching more bones

Thank you for this, Sherry! I think he may have eaten a couple of the riblet bones today. I was pretty sure there were six and I could only find 4. But I like the idea of segmented wing (not sure what that means unless it means the wing tip and the wing flat still intact) for several meals. I will have to go look for those. another question-- in the blockage protocol, can you use non-petroleum jelly? Thank you, Sherry

oh drats! I forgot another question which I'm sure is on the forum... how many poops does an average ferret poop during the day from sunrise to sunset? Today I saw a big poop when I came home at 5 and before going up to his cage for bed, he had a smaller one. Probably 3 for the daylight hours, but sometimes I get home and there's 2 or three poops already. Just want to be sure everything is right. Thank you!!!

Once on raw the number and amount of stool drastically decrease, but again the number will depend on the ferret. And no, non petroleum jelly for the purpose of blockage protocol just doesn't seem to work as well. What I mean by segmented wing is a full wing including tip. Cut at the three joints, cut the middle in two between the bones, and cut the big one lengthwise as much as possible to expose the marrow along the length.

Thanks for the encouragement. I still don't have any of those whole chicken wings to teach more bone eating. I feel that I would like him to have a little more weight on his bones before I stubborn him out on this. What do you think? I should see if I can upload a pic. He's a thin little Booger, but gaining gradually. Oh well, I tried to upload, insert and screen shot paste and nothing works for me to put a picture here. Right now, I'm going to edit the menu above. Thanks for the help and support!!
