I mean nothing really happens per say to them if they don't eat the soup during the night. To me if they are eating enough during the day and they eat before bed you could probably get away with taking the kibble away completely. Keeping kibble around is for the people who don't get their ferrets to eat enough during the day. Also when ferrets are older and have health issues a lot of people during a switch will keep kibble available especially insulinoma ferrets.

Ah okay good to know. I figured something dramatic would happen if they went without, with their short digestive tracts

No, technically a raw fed ferret after a switch (because during a switch they eat so much) only gets fed twice a day unless they are babies then it goes up to 4 times a day. Anyways our menu specifies am pm so technically twice a day. They also get so much more nutrition from their food they don't have to "graze" like a kibble fed ferret.
How I do it is I feed enough in the AM to last the day to the PM the goal is just to have a couple bites left over.

Makes sense! I'm trying to get them to eat an extra ounce tonight. Maybe after their nap they'll be ready for the rest of this

As of right now around 1 1/2 oz each today. Around the usual I guess. As of yet they are still uninterested in the extra ounce I have out.

Hmmmmm I would keep the soupy out. It can stay out for 8 hours. Usually I just trust my nose if it smells off get rid of it.

Thanks ladies! Whew, that last bit took a while for them to be ready for, I celebrated by going to bed I just picked up the beef heart from the market, so now I'll have plenty of soupie made up for them they haven't had breakfast yet, I'm going to try 2 oz instead of 1. If they don't eat it I'll stick it in the cage with them when I have to leave for work. How much do you think they should be ingesting during the day to be getting proper nutrition?

Update: they ate 2 oz this morning!! I'm so proud of them! Downside: the beef heart didn't purée as well as the chicken heart so I had to sit the with a knife (the second oz was from the new batch) and cut up the heart chunks into tiny pieces so they didn't avoid it. But they ate it all up!! They're lucky I love them lol. Do you think I should leave no kibble in the cage during the day today?

Technically adult females eat 1 to 3oz a day. During switches they can and do eat much more. So as long as they are eating more than an ounce a day they should be good.
