I would like to add that while raw red ferrets are Fed once or twice a day, they should still have free range access to their food at all times (so breakfast is kept available all day, dinner kept available overnight). The only exception is if you have a ferret who tends to be overweight and you need to regulate their food intake. This is far less common on raw but does still happen. lol But in general, they should have access to food at all times. That said, it is all okay for raw fed ferrets who are KNOWN to be healthy and ABSOLUTELY do not have insulinoma to occasionally go without food for *short* periods (eg skip a meal), and is thought by some (including Bob Church) that the occasional BRIEF fast is beneficial to their health. Though I don't have specific research on this, we do know from studies on various other animals that a reduced calorie diet has health benefits. I am very, very cautious about sharing this particular piece of info with anyone as too many will take it and go overboard and either starve their ferrets or withhold food from a ferret who is of unknown health and send them into an insulinomic crash. So please use this info with great caution and forethought.

Thanks katt that is really good to know! Tomorrow I'm going to try 3 oz of soupie in the morning then, and if I can get them to eat the two like today then I'll have an oz left over to leave in cage while I'm at work. @morgan2247 Yup they ate an oz each this am!! such good girls I'm glad they're being so good for me, I really expected this to be way harder.. knock on wood lol. This evening should I try for the 3 oz split between the two of them again like last night then? And leave no kibble over night, just some soupie for them? Or would you prefer I try to up it again?

@tessvictoria I would like you to leave the soup over night in the cage but let's see how much they eat today by themselves and determine it tonight.
They are eating by themselves right? No more hand feeding?

Okay sounds good! Right now they are both eating by themselves, though I have to show catalina the spoon first before she eats off the plate. A handful of times she has gone straight to it by herself though. The way I'm feeding them right now I show them the plate when they first get out after work and they eat their fill for the moment and run away, I sit there pretty much all night with the plate (I have a good view of the tv ) and when they scamper past Ill pick them up and place them by the plate, make sure they sniff it and then if they're hungry again they'll go right back to eating it. The floor is my friend right now hahaha.

Great! Haha when I feed one of my little ones I always sit in front of the TV. Does both girls still have good energy? Have you noticed anything different from being on kibble vs the soup?

I'm not sure if its too soon to reallllly tell but I feel like they're more active than they were before while they're out of the cage, Catalina was being such a goof this morning. The amount that Mauser is eating surprised me, shes such a little thing! They feel so solid right now, not sure if thats just because they're getting their winter weight or if it has to do with the soupie. Mauser's so fluffy right now with her winter coat, I love it!

Since you have a lot of gizzards, do you know if they are considered a muscle meat or an organ?

The one poop I witnessed this morning from Mauser was small and mucousy looking, I didn't see who did what besides that one though. Ill keep a close eye on the poops so I can show you who is doing what. Gizzards are considered muscle meat! And are good for cleaning teeth

Great job, don't forget though that gizzards are good for cleaning teeth, but bone is better to clean teeth so make sure if you use gizzards not use them as the sole teeth cleaner bone also has calcium which is important for the ferret something the gizzards don't have

Ah okay, is it that the tougher foods kind of.. "scrub" the teeth clean while they chew?

Well we're working on dinner, my internet is being stupid slow tonight lol. From my eyeball estimate they've eaten around 2 oz and have around 1 oz left for the time being until they wake up From their little naps.
