I just happened to be reading behind a holistic vet on internet---anyway a little piece of info stuck with me about how nature provides a balance. Although I have never ground up a dozen egg shells to see how much powder they would make per egg. I thought I might do this and start putting it in eggs that i give my ferrets---just a thought.
Meat contains no calcium, and lots of phosphorus; bones contain lots of calcium. Eggs contain lots of phosphorus; the shells contain calcium. That is nature's balance.

If you and your ferrets can stomach green tripe, give it a shot. It contains the perfect blend of calcium and phosphorus.
It's just so darn smelly but alot of breeders feed it to their kits or so I've been told.

Are there any good threads discussing Green Tripe and how often/much to feed? I got a can from my friend who raw feeds her dogs but am unsure how to feed it.

I haven't found a thread, however I know that Green Tripe should be fed as a muscle meat. It would probably be a good weekly treat. It's quite smelly and most ferrets don't really like it because of that, but if your ferret(s) like it, then great! Here is what I have in my bookmarked pages. Note Note: Ferrets also do not produce amylase.

Check out that can and make sure that there are no added ingredients. Fresh green tripe would be better. Hispanic markets will carry it. I learned about it from a breeder that I met while visiting a group of breeders. I was returning home from vacation and picking up my ferrets from Pam Van Overloop and they had just returned from the Ferret Buckeye Bash in Ohio. We were talking about the breeding process and Heather (Heather McNally is on Facebook) and she told me that she feeds it to her kits until they are 18 months old. Tripe is an organ so it would be treated as such in their weekly menu: holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/13628/defines-nutritional-organ-meativcjournal.com/raw-green-tripe/

I am sooo excited , I have finally found a source for fresh green tripe. We should have got the first order last week, but than it was canceled, since the lady could not go get them because of the snow storm. So, hopefully this week will get them along with our weekly amount of beef. I am ordering them for the dog, of course will give it a try with ferrets also. I will let you know guys when I get them, so that you will know, if I won't be posting on the forum, that I have died because of the horrific smell

I will just do what I always do with new food - just give them a portion and see what happens And if they will eate it, I will give them once weekly instead of one meat meal. But - I don't know yet how they will respond - I am supposed to get them on thursday/friday due to canceled delivery previous week.

Soooo we got our green tripes yesterday and today i give them a try. The dog was sooooo excited, would eat all if she could ?. The cats were really interested in them, but only two out of five guve an actual try with some bites and few licks. I didn't leave it for long, since they are indoor cats, an tough the smell is not as horrific as i tought, it is not a really pleasant one. So, Fanta the dog got another mini portion. As far as it goes for ferrets - Vega was disgusted, Iorek was interested but did not quite know what to do with it, Drdra and Gusztav each took few pieces. Since the ferrts are housed outside, i will leave it until the evening and see what happens. Btw ... i cut it outside and definitely, use gloves when handling ...

Most of it was gone in the ferret enclosure during the nighr. The evening meal they got, was a bit smaller than usual and the boys were hungry in the morning, but most of tripe was gone. Probably next time I will wash the ferret's part a bit more, I left quite some plant matter on it and this was what they have left.

Hardboiled eggs will not provide any bezoar prevention. It will just be a treat. The lecithin in the eggs (the active ingredient that helps to prevent bezoars from forming) is inactivated when cooked.

I have beef & lamb tripe that I'm trying with my ferrets tonight - I hope they like it, as I'd like to feed it once a week.
My dogs LOVE it, but with dogs it seems the more... Ahem, fragrant the food, the more they love it. Lol.
