I got her to eat kidney I just put it in her bowl and she ate two big slices. I am so proud of her! Her poops are nice and firm. All day long they have been.

Like I said, you are making good decisions! And little Shelby is doing great. You're not going to need me much longer. Once Shelby has proven that she'll eat her organs, I want to give her at least a week on the frankenprey menu to be sure there are no problems and then she'll be ready to graduate. I want you to be ready when she is. Your menu needed a little tweaking. Fix it and post it again so I can make sure everything is balanced. Look over all the information I sent you in the mini-book and see if there is anything you have questions about. Make sure you understand how to adjust the menu if you need to, to add or change proteins or to compensate for too runny or too firm poops. I will post it tomorrow again for you I promise. So far I am still a little skeptical on duck and lamb so far as her poops have been pretty runny on both. I do know they are new protiens. These next couple days I will focus on one protien at a time. I will start with duck and watch her poops. If they stay some what solid or pretty normal I will ho to the lamb and do the same. I want to make sure the protiens I picked out for her isnt going to upset her tummy. The too runny poops I know that you said to just sprinkle some egg shell on it or add another bone in meal to replace a muscle meal. The to firm poops means to many bone ins so compensate for a muscle meal if I notice they are to firm. And adjusting the menu when I need to be it a different protien. I just make sure if its a new protien to make sure what I am replacing is exactly the same. So I change the lamb it needs to be replaced with a muscle meat. If I change the cornish game hen it needs to be with a protien I can use as a bone in meal correct?

Yep, that looks good! And little Shelby eats all of it, right? How is she doing with the duck and the lamb? If you feel like you're ready to graduate, I'll give you a final 'exam' and submit your menu for approval. You've done a fantastic job with this switch. I feel like I haven't really helped much at all!

I feel like I haven't really helped much at all! She eats anything I put in front of her. Shes a little piggy. Last night I gave her a couple pieces of quail and a chicken heart. And she ate all of it. Thr only thing I am concerned about is that her poops are pretty runny. The quail had a little bone in it but not much. And of course the heart doesnt really have much. I want to be on the menu for a full week so I can make sure if I have any questions I still can ask you. I havent tried the lamb or duck yet. The heat has been killer on shelby and I and well her poops yesterday were mucousy so i didnt feel it would be a good idea to try a new meat yet. Her poops are more solid today so when its done thawing I will give her some. Also how long can meat stay in the fridge?

Was there a reason you mixed the quail and heart in one meal? It doesn't really matter at this point since Shelby is an 'only' ferret, but if you ever get another you'll want to feed them as separate meals to make sure they both get what they need.
The heart would be the reason for the runny poops, even with serving quail with it. You can sprinkle the heart with a little bit of bone meal or eggshell powder to firm up the poop.
Heat can cause stress which in turn can cause funky poops. How hot has in been where Shelby is? If it's too hot, you can freeze water bottles and wrap them in fleece to put in her cage. Or you can get a ceramic floor tile, refrigerate it and put it in her cage for her to lay on.
I try not to leave meat in the fridge any longer than I would leave it for humans, so no more than a day or two. It would probably be OK for up to 4 or 5 days, but I prefer to not take any chances.

No not a particular reason. I wasnt sure if she would eat a whole heart so I mixed with with some quail pieces and she was fine so next time I wont mix it. I was going to ask for the menu when I serve say 1 heart the 1/4 liver and 1/4 kidney is that like ozs? So if I wanted to give her 4 ounces and a heart is 1 oz do I give her two hearts then an oz of kidney and an oz of liver? Or am I completely wrong? Okay thats what I needed to know. Also can I thaw and refreeze a lot or is that bad too? Because I dont use all my meats in a couple days.

The 1/2 heart, 1/4 liver, 1/4 kidney is the percentage of her meal, not the ounces. If it were ounces, that would be 4 oz in one meal which I am sure will be way too much for her once she reaches adulthood. Whatever the amount is that she eats in a meal, you will do half of it heart, 1/4 of it liver, and 1/4 kidney. For example, if she eats 2 oz per meal, you would do 1 oz heart, 1/2 oz liver, 1/2 oz kidney. Understand?
Thawing and refreezing won't degrade the nutrients in the meat, but it does make it taste bad. If you portion the meat when you get it and then freeze it, you won't be constantly thawing and freezing.

I just wanted to make sure i was on the same page as everyone else. I gave her duck last night and I beleive its doing well in her tummy because she had solid poops and one runny dark poop. But I call that a win. So I think we are over the mucousy issue with that protien. Now I will give her lamb tomorrow when its thawed. Make sure shes good there and then I want to be on her menu for a week and I will be set. Hopefully thats okay with you.

I am just not liking the lamb poops.shes had two milky or chalky almost looking poops they are runny as well. I will let her eat some more and keep an eye out but I dont like the way they look. If it continues I will switch the lamb and try pork. What do you think?

How many meals of lamb has she had? Lamb is usually the 'hypoallergenic' meat so that surprises me. Lamb doesn't have any bone though, so several meals in a row of muscle meat will make her stools looser. The color could be caused from fat, if the lamb is fatty. But try pork. My kids love pork. You could keep lamb in the rotation and serve it every other week instead of every week if you want.

Yeah its loose and like a chalky brown color. But there was a lot of fat on some of the pieces so you may be right. I just didnt know if fat would be that color coming out like it did going in lol I like having the menu but I also want her to try as much meat as possible. What do you think of feeding her tilapia or salmon?

Fish is fine. She can have it bone and all. Fish does give nasty stinky poops. My four don't like fish, but they LOVE frog legs. Frog legs will provoke a food fight every single time they have them.

I was going to ask you about frog legs. They look like they have pretty good amount of meat on them like a cgh wing. Can I try it as a substitute for a bone in meal? Or are they just a snack?
