The organ meals should be very close in amount to the muscle and bone meals. If they are eating 5 oz per meal of muscle and bone, then give them 5 oz of organ and just don't feed them again until the organ is gone. Eating less of the organs once in a while isn't going to hurt them, but if they eat less long term it could cause an imbalance. Here is your final 'exam'. Try to answer without looking anything up. If you just don't know something, let me know and we'll go over it. You've done so much of this switch on your own that I really don't feel like I've taught you anything! 1. List 2 good sources of taurine. 2. Are cooked bones safe to feed? 3. Organs should consist of approximately how much liver, and how much "other" organ? 4. How can you tell if your ferret is too fat or too skinny? 5. What is a healthy diet item that can be used to prevent hairballs from forming, and how often should you give it? 6. Give 2 examples each of muscle meat, edible bones, and organs. 7. Is it a good idea to mix muscle meat, bone in and organs all in one meal. Explain why.

Give 2 examples each of muscle meat, edible bones, and organs. 7. Is it a good idea to mix muscle meat, bone in and organs all in one meal. Explain why. 1. Chicken heart, beef tongue. 2. No cooked bones will splinter. 3. 1/2 liver and half other organ like kidney. 4. A well healthy weight on a ferret they should be tubular. If they are to skinny they will have an hour glass figure if the are to fat they will have what I call saddle bags. 5. Egg. Depending on the season. When its not hair ball season once a week is good. When they start to shed they recommend you feed 2 to 3 eggs a week to prevent hair balls. 6. Muscle Meat: beef stew meat, ground pork. Edible bone: chicken wings, frog legs. Organs: beef liver, pork kidney. 7. No mixing muscle meat, bone in, and organs all together is not a good idea. Reason being is that ferrets will eat their favorite food and leave the rest. So if the ferret likes the bone in meal better than the muscle meat and organs they will only eat the bone in. When that is fed consistently it creates imbalances it also creates deficiencies as well because they arent eating the organs that provide a lot of vitamins and muscle meat with more protien.

Perfect! The only thing left to do is to submit your menu for approval. We like to have a balanced menu in the last 2 or 3 posts of a thread so that newbies who are looking to see what others have done see an approved menu on the last page of a switching thread. So although you just posted a good menu a few posts ago, please copy/paste it changing a frog meal to either duck or rabbit. Then I'll submit it.

Congratulations  You've graduated and you're ready to walk this path alone :wave2: . You have the foundation to help you feed your fuzzes in a more natural and healthy manner. Please remember that your learning never stops, and dietary needs change from ferret to ferret and throughout each their lives as you're finding out with your own business. I would like you to be aware that though you now have the capability and the knowledge to create your little ones diets, you are never alone and that your mentor (you need only pm) is always available to you. The list is also a very good resource and you should always be aware that it's available to answer any questions you may have either about diet or care. Good luck, in a few days Sherry will lock down this thread and place it in the archives but be aware that you can always look through it as a reference tool but you just will not be able to post to it. Your mentor will be in to congratulate you shortly  :thankyou:
ciao
