Wow. I didn't get a notification that you had replied. I was getting ready to post that I hope YOU are OK!
Marty's weight is fine and I'm so glad his neck is healing. How is Layla's weight? How are they doing with that temporary menu? Have you found another bone-in meat yet? And what size are their chunks up to now?

Layla's still the exact same weight, its a little uncanny how little her weight varies. They're doing great on their temp menu, but last night when I measured what pork I have left it showed 4.5 ounces, then this morning it only measured 2.5, and I made sure the scale was zeroed out before I weighed... So I'm panicking a little on how I'm going to get some for their next pork meal, I'm reaching out to friends to help me get to a store that doesn't only have pork with additives, and hopefully to get another meat ASAP. I have their pork cut to 1 inch-ish cubes right now and they're doing well on it. For the chicken and CGH I do what I have to to get the bones crushed smaller, 'cause they're still not taking to full-width bones.
Money's really tight because a commissioner hasn't paid me yet, and I only have one more lined up, so I don't know what I'm going to do for money next month. Maybe birthday money will see me through.

Got more pork and a whole gutted salmon. Of course I didn't learn until after I bought it that another store nearby had frozen bait fish. Please tell me that the salmon will work as a bone-in meal. It was about the price of beef per pound.

Salmon is fine for bone in. I hope they like it!
Are you still increasing the size of their chunks with each meal? You should be gradually working them up to large pieces.

I am. Right now Marty won't actually eat anything other than chicken or CGH bigger than an inch cube. He'll move it, but it doesn't get eaten. I don't think he's figured out that he can tear the meat.

Try holding the meat for him so he has something to pull against.
Sorry for the brief replies. I'm in school again so breaks are short.

I'll try doing that when I switch the food out next, he might be more likely to do it when he's excited for the new food. I'm going to wait until I have the fish portioned out (probably tomorrow) to switch up the schedule, just to minimize the stress. One thing at a time.

Oh. Should I leave the fish skin on? Its descaled as good as I could get it.

Skin on should be fine. Are you still following the temporary menu? Substitute the fish for one of the bone-in meals.

Now that I have some of the fish portioned out, I'll swap it with chicken tonight.

So is it ok to leave fish in the cage for 12 hours? It was out for a while when I bought it but didn't smell too fishy yet. Should I put some ice in with it once it starts warming up?

Never mind. It went fine, and the fish doesn't even smell fishy yet 'cause it was so chilly last night. Layla LOVES salmon. Marty hasn't even really tried it as far as I can tell, so I broke an egg in it to try to tempt him. I'll give them their organs tonight rather than this morning.

My mom suggested just going ahead and seeing if he'll eat bait fish like sardines without struggling over the salmon, because salmon tastes significantly different to other fish. Layla basically eats anything I put in her bowl so I'm not too worried about that. I am concerned with not using the salmon though. It was expensive. Maybe I can take the bone out and give that to her instead of something like pork or beef? Also, some bait fish don't come gutted, so should I count them as whole prey, or should I make it easy on myself and just gut the whole thing?
Also: The fish is the best thing that could have happened as far as getting my mom to be supportive of feeding them raw. She's been helping rather than discouraging since I bought it. Which is strange because I thought her problem was with bacteria, and fish makes people more worried than pork or beef.

Why not go ahead and feed the salmon since you have it? If you feed whole fish, count them as whole prey. As long as you don't feed them more than once or twice a week, it doesn't change the menu.

Alright. How should I go about getting Marty to eat it? He really seems to hate the taste. I'll try mixing some with the organs tonight I suppose, since its mushy anyway.
