Here is a quote for you about Vitamin D Where can I get vitamin D: Vitamin D can be obtained at health food stores. This vitamin is best used along with vit A and is often offered with vit a in tablet form. As this vitamin is not water soluble it can be stored in the body and if too much is given calcium can be deposited in soft tissue throughout the body. This is one vitamin that must be used with caution. Fresh meat feeders can find vitamin D in sardines, salmon, tuna, mackerel, liver and egg yolks from this Vitamins thread. So if he is getting the salmon oil and eggs he is getting his vitamin D

So as long as you follow this menu and have this being fed weekly then their diet will be balanced 7-9 Bone-in Meals (ei: chicken wings, necks, frog legs, etc) 3-4 Muscle Meals (remember, heart is a muscle) Half Liver & Half Other Organ Half Heart, 1/4 Liver and 1/4 Other Organ 1 Meal of Hearts At least one Red Meat meal A minimum of 3 different proteins For the Frankenprey and whole prey diet: Monday AM: Half Heart - 1/4 Liver - 1/4 Other Organ Monday PM: rat and mice whole prey Tuesday AM: chicken breast ground Tuesday PM: quail whole prey Wednesday AM: ground turkey no bone Wednesday PM: rat and mice whole prey Thursday AM: guinea pig whole prey Thursday PM: Half Liver - Half Other Organ Friday AM: quail whole prey Friday PM: ground lamb no bone Saturday AM: rat and mice whole prey Saturday PM: guinea pig whole prey Sunday AM: chicken breast ground Sunday PM: quail whole prey One whole chicken egg once per week. half a squirt of salmon oil daily. 1.5 tsp. Ferretone daily. AND LOTS AND LOTS OF LOVE! You have 8 Whole Prey meals, 1.5 organ meals, 1/2 of a heart meal, and 4 muscle meats look here Balancing Frankenprey with Whole meals and tell me what should be different. See above post about oils. You are a great ferret momma of course there's lots and lots of love, never a doubt! It looks like for 8 whole prey meals, I would need to add 0.5 heart meal and 0.5 other organs meal. So I was ok on the heart but a little heavy and the other organs. I would need only one muscle meat instead of 4. Would it be ok to add heart for the muscle meat if his poop allows? Then he would need 4 bone-in meals.

Good to know. Still having trouble getting anything other than pork kidney for the other organ. I will be glad when cooler weather is here so maybe I can get a shipment of meat from back east. Thank you for all you help on this. Teddy is thriving and beautiful. He is just big. He doesn't look fat. Today, he seemed to slow down a bit on the eating so I will see if next week I can cut him back to about 9 oz. per day. He is very spoiled and won't go hungry in this house.

An extra heart meal never hurt anyone, espcially if you are at all concerned about the amounts that are actually in the grinds.

Kidney is fine as the other organ. I would love to see some updated pictures of him!

The grinds I now have do not have heart or other organs in them. I bought a 5 lb. bag of whole turkey hearts and a 5 lb. bay of whole turkey livers. Then I bought 2 lbs. of whole pork kidney. So I put each one separately into the food processor then measure them into ice cube trays and freeze. That way I know he is getting the correct amount. I always go a little over on the heart.

Teddy was the largest of the litter and by the size of his paws he will be big. Friends call him a badger. I call him a wolverine....lol......no....just "Poof Daddy!"

Not sure if I should be concerned. All Teddy has eaten since 4:00 yesterday afternoon is one mouse. He is now refusing to eat. He seems ok but maybe a little lethargic. I brushed him yesterday to remove loose hair. Offered him an egg and he wouldn't eat that either. Will give him a few more hours and then may take him to vet.

How hot it is, if he is too hot he will not eat much and get tired acting also. How are his poops? Always go with your instinct, if it says call the vet then call the vet. I hope he is doing better now though and just had a bit of an off night, that happens too sometimes. I have 4 actually, Sir and Missy, Belle and George. They are all spayed and neutered. I did not get them from a breeder. Maybe one day I will do that but right now 4 is great! He is absolutely a wolverine, silly people calling him a badger! (giggle)
