When he sits, and looks up at me, my heart melts. Bear's red eyes always make her look mischievous Willy are some soup over night! Only a little bit; he slurped up all the liquid & left behind little bone/meat pieces. However when I finger feed him he will eat bone & meat chunks. Today is day # 2 without any kibble, and my shift was cancelled (mixed joy & frustration there) so I can feed him regularly today. Bear likes to stash meat & leave it to jerky, but never eats it. She had bone in for brekkie, and dinner will be heart soup. She is definitely detoxing, stinky fuzzy . I went back through and she has been eating meat for almost a month now. I only have to clean her litter box once a day, and refill her water once a day (before I was doing each 2-3x/day). I had her on Orijen cat/Kitten before, so I don't see a huge change in her fur; its soft, fluffy, and oh so cuddly How long does detox normally last? I will give her a light bath (all natural, gentle cleaner for newborn hooman babies takes strips less oil) when she is done detoxing. I went to look for Stella & Chewy FDR rabbit today, but they're still having a hard time getting into Canada. My local small pet store (Pet Global) is switching to entirely Canadian sourced raw foods & kibble, and will be getting the full line of Orijen FDR food, I'm so excited! I checked out wysong (looking for a back up food for travel/ferret sitter), and I think I'm going to stick with Orijen FDR as a back up. Orijen is Canadian, never had a recall (I don't know about Wysong), and I can see all the farms where their meats come from. A lot of Orijen meat are also sustainably & responsibly sourced; I'm trying to minimize mine & my pets environmental footprint. But if anyone has information on where & how Wysong gets their meat, that would be fantastic.

Good boy Willy! Detox normally lasts 1-4 weeks. Lasted a brutal 2 weeks for mine. They were on Wellness Core before the switch, but still smelled disgusting during detox, lol. Wysong has had several recalls, a few of which have resulted in bacteria overload/diarrhea in many animals. A lot of people I know switched to raw because of Wysong's recalls. Here is a link on their sourcing- www.wysong.net/pet-health-and-nutrition/meats.php

Got up to feed the fuzzies & clean their litter boxes, and Willy was staring me down: "but moooooom!" So we let him out for 10 minutes, and he dooked for the first time! Actually, he ran/hobbled back & forth dooking, happy to be out of his cage. He loves to play in an empty wire waste basket Both Willy & Bear are more eager to gnaw on pieces of bone than chunks of meat. At bone-in meals they get grinds (organic from local farms; 80% muscle, 10% bone, 10% organ), which I like because I can't cut the meat into small enough chunks to appease the fuzzbutts. The "chunks" are the size of the tip of your finger nail, and Bear is still resisting moving beyond soup. Willy will eat small meat chunks if I feed them to him, he eats bone willingly. They have the cutest head-bob while they eat. *Update* Willy is a tummy with teeth this morning. He gobbled up 1 oz, and we are giving him another 1.5 oz while we get ready. I will be happy if his dish needs to be filled once more before we leave.

(Day #3 No kibble for Willy) He did it again last night! He ate a whole bowl, all on his own. Which wasn't very soupie, and included chunks & bones This week I'm trying to get him eating beef. Bear too, ate her meat chunks & bone. I want to introduce her to a new protein (chicken, beef), but I'm not sure which one. She eats Orijen FDR Duck (duck meat & duck liver) without a hitch, but she doesn't eat bone/meat chunks well enough for a beat up duck wing. Is that good enough for 3 proteins, until I can get her eating meat chunks better?

Is that good enough for 3 proteins, until I can get her eating meat chunks better? Chicken, beef and duck are a great protein base. Duck necks are pretty easy to smash up believe it or not and in fact they were what my crew started on for bones because I couldn't get and chicken necks!

The bones aren't as much of a problem as the meat chunks. I can hear them crunch, crunch, crunching away when I give them grinds. But Bear ignores the meat chunks. She eats around them, or drags them out of her bowl, and leaves them to jerky.
She eats the grind chunks as is, but barely. I have a hard time cutting the meat small enough with a knife. I may look into a food chopped (like the "slap chop") to help get the meat to a size she will eat, without it being soup.
I have a small ziploc bags of Willy's kibble ground into a powder, just in case. I'm getting rid of the rest of the bag.

So how big are the bone sizes they are eating? Maybe try increasing those sizes to see how they do. I would not throw away the kibble, just put it in an air tight container and save it. You never know if/when a new beatie will need you.

I was going to donate it to a shelter, or free online. I'm going to try & get him used to Orijen kibble, or Orijen FDR as a back up. There will not be a new ferret in my house for awhile. I've said it before (10 ferrets ago), but this time it's true... Unless I find my dream black ferret. I want a black ferret so bad!!

They're doing great! As FireAngel said, Chicken Beef and Duck are just fine. The minimum is 3 proteins, so you're meeting the requirements I highly recommend getting Kitchen Shears for cutting up the meat, I couldn't survive without mine, lol. You can get them for like $8 at Wal-Mart.

I will post a picture of the bones they eat when I get home. Found ostrich meat & quail eggs at Zehrs today. I was told "not today"... Probably because I want to eat the ostrich meat

Donating to a shelter is a good idea, you could keep like a few cups of it in a bag if you want just in case, I held onto mines kibble for a few weeks then tossed it. I know the shelter im at always needs cat food. Them kitties love to eat, lol. Ostrich meat, how cool! I don't think I know anyone who has given their fuzzums ostrich. You'll have to let us know how they like it. And how you like it, too.
