Hi! Today I adopted three ferrets, Bandit, Oliver, and Belle. Bandit has a little runny poops, which I figure are from being stressed about the sudden change. When awake he will have kind of snuffly sounding breathing. Is this also just from being stressed? How long should I monitor it before taking him to the vet, or should I take him asap? I just want the best for my babies, and want him to be okay.

just curious --is he a blaze? My blaze makes some real loud snorty sounnds.
He may have a sensitivity to the litter they used ,or is your litter perfumey or dusty?

^ that. Also vacuum all of the little crevices, under the bed etc that they get into. It's crazy thinking about all of the small hair and dust balls that can form throughout a house.
Try closing the door in the bathroom and let a hot shower steam run while u play with him. Get the mirror foggy and afterward see if that helps.
Or try egg as well if u haven't already.

He also snores very loudly, but I'm not sure if that's because he's having breathing issues right now or not. I noticed he started to make loud sneezing / coughing sounds when he shoved his face into the litter. I use Yesterday's News.

Okay, I'll try all that tomorrow, thanks.

I did the shower steam with mine and it cleared it right up but I had to do it two days in a row and then he seemed good to go. Just make sure you look at his nose in the morning, if it's got boggers he might be getting sick.

They have pretty sensitive respiratory systems, so it could be dust from the litter or exploring, but also it could be fragrance or fabric softener or any number of things. Try not to use anything with fragrance or air fresheners sold then because essential oils cannot be processed by them, and exposure can lead to a toxic build up.
When mine start sneezing/sniffling while out playing, I know it's time to vacuum under whatever piece of furniture they were just under. My personal dust patrol, lol.

Congratulations on Bandit, Oliver and Belle. You just moved from California, are these your first ferrets? I don't use litter, I use puppy pads but I did find this thread on Yesterday's news. Read thru it and see what you think. The link is below. Ferrets have their noses to the ground and will inhale dust and such. They also tend to have an intolerance to pine and the pine scent. You might want to pick up some hypo allergenic detergent to wash their bedding. Remove any scents or scented candles from around them. You recently moved and boxes and settling in can cause all kinds of dust and other new house related smells to show up. Bandit's poops could be stress related. Keep an eye out on them. You don't want them to stay runny. What are they all eating now? holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/7421

I know you just got them. I've had two ferts that snored all the time and both had heart issues. But, they were older when it started. It's always a good idea to have new ones checked out. Where did you get them?
And, btw, congrats! Ferrets are amazing.

You know, that is what i am using with my baby because when i first got her, she would not use paper towels in potty. I thought the snorting sound she makes may have been from the flattened skull of wardies--supposing she is a wardie.
It does have a strong smell not perfumey ---just something else.
hmmmm...... time to try paper towels again
Ever Pet is a very good potty pad from Dollar General store. I use them in front of potties. Don't know why they will not step up in potty sometimes---lazy boogers. u might can get them cheaper somewhere else, have not looked----Definitely not Petco 10 pads for about $10.

Yes I just moved here, but that was about a month and a half ago, and it was moving in with my s/o, so it's not like there was a whole lot of unpacking. They are eating Evo Ferret food and Nature's Instinct Raw Boost Duck and Turkey. Eventually I will be switching them to raw, I had made some soup today actually which I'll give later today. Interesting thread about Yesterday's News. When I poured the bag into the bin, there was quite a bit of dust, and it does have a distinct smell. I may try other litter or try puppy pads.

So far they've been wonderful (and quite naughty... it's obvious who the trouble maker is in the group~)

Hi I use Yesterdays news I make sure to buy the unscented package that is 30lb with a yellow label. As there are two unscented, there is one that is not as compressed and I found there was a lot more dust with the less compressed version. I have a ferret litter box diver and he gets right in there with no breathing issues at all. Double check that you bought the unscented Also Congrats on your new additions! I just switched to commercial raw and you wouldn't believe the difference I saw in my ferrets! The change has made them much happier and healthier! I highly recommend the switch. -Alison
