After all the rave reviews I've read on Yesterday's News, I went out and bought the largest bag they had at the store (bad idea). I am very disappointed.
Even though I bought the non-scented type, I find it still has a distinct odor to it. Not only do the girls track it all over their cage (I changed the liners yesterday morning, it looks like it's been 2 weeks!!) but I find they also smell like yesterdays news and the whole room has that odor since I have 4 litter boxes in that room filled with it including my rabbits litter box.
I was before this just using cut up newspaper and found that although the litter wasn't very absorbent, I would just scoop out all of it twice a day but it didn't have a strange odor to it and the girls hardly had any odor on them!
I am getting complaints from the rest of the house that it is really starting to smell and when I made them smell the yesterdays news alone, we all agreed in unison thats what was causing it!
Im going back to the pet store tomorrow to buy more litter, does anyone have any recommendations, I don't need super absorbent since I clean the boxes regularly I just need large amounts for cheap since I go through A LOT (all of their boxes are the giant cat ones!) and preferably non tracking no odor litter.
I was very happy with the newspaper but for me to have that kind of volume I would have to spend hours a week cutting it up even with a paper shredder and I fear I do not have that much newspaper LOL.

I've heard 40 pound bags of wood pellets work well. It doesn't really clump, but poop is easy enough to scoop. With urine, the pellets break down into sawdust, basically, so if you make yourself a filter (or get a strainer from a goodwill store) you can just sift out the dirty stuff and put the clean back in the box. I'm planning on switching to it once my bag of Yesterday's News is gone.

I use World's Best Cat litter, the smell absorbency is freaking amazing I love it. It tracks a bit, but I just use a little hand dustpan and brush to sweep it up.

Can you return the litter you just bought and get a refund? I use wood pellets.

Worlds best here too. If you buy the small 7-8 lb bag you can submit it for a rebate. Just keep your receipt

I use the hardwood pellets. 40lb bag for under $5 here at Lowe's. 5 ferrets go through a ton of litter, so I need it to be cheap. They do track when they break down into sawdust, but I keep fleece laying in front of mine to wipe their feet and butts on so it doesn't get into the rest of the house really. I also find if I scoop it more often there is less sawdust in general, so if you are a frequent cleaner it's not a big issue. I try and do mine once a day, sometimes it's once every other day if work has me working long hours like they do this week and next.

We bought a cat, and decided to get World's best and switch the fuzzies to that too, instead of the marshall's litter. Best. Decision. EVER. The odor absorbency is phenomenal, and the clumping is so fantastic that I actually don't have to pour in all brand 0new l9+**** litter on a daily basis. I'm able to get it completely clean every time. It's fantastic! (Sorry for the typos. Koda decided he wanted to help type out the message, and I love him so much, I couldn't just delete it. )

I wouldnt use wood stove pellets if your worried about tracking. Mine don't track alot of it but they do track some. It is however a great price lol I use the horse bedding which is the same thing as wood stove pellets, but I can get it easy year round. 5.50 for a 40lb bag, which we go through like a week.

I use the hardwood pellets too, and scoop with a sand shovel I bought at the Dollar Store. I am only scooping for two weasels but I find it pretty effective and easy. Natural odor and for sure, the price is right.

Wood Pellets for sure. I have been getting mine at Wal-Mart for $4.00, 40 pound bag. Very easy and no smell. I tried many litters before this. I have been using this for a year, and absolutely love it.

Actually, recycled newspaper pellets work really well, it's just that Yesterdays News brand is HORRIBLE!!! I tried it once and had the same results - dusty, doesn't absorb that well, and tracks badly. Instead, I use the same type of litter but a different brand. What I use is called Exquisicat (or maybe Exquisite Cat - I don't keep the bags) and I get it at PetSmart. They sell the same litter under a different name in the ferret section and market it for ferrets, but it is A LOT cheaper if you buy the one they market for cats. I get a 25lb bag for bout $11. I've found that multiple pet stores sell this same type of litter but under different names (I'm sorry but I can't remember the names of those bags). I can just tell if it's my litter by its look and smell (yes, like most litters this one does have a slight smell to it but it dissipates when I put the litter into the litter bin at home). You have to be careful though, sometimes they put out bad batches that act like Yesterday's news - they are dusty, track horribly, and they have a very strong earthy-like odor that is VERY noticable. The way I get around this is by making one of the air holes that are already punched into the bag a bit bigger with my finger and look at and smell the litter before I buy it. HAHA, it's pretty funny but I have to try to do this while no one is looking at me because when people see me do it they look at me like I'm crazy. I try to explain that it's for ferrets and they are VERY sensitive to bad litter but I usually just stop myself cause they don't get it

(Sorry bout that last post, my comp was acting up and some stuff got switched around.) Wood pellets eh? I thought most of those were bad for ferrets? What type do you use and is it safer than recycled newspaper pellets? I ask because from all of the reading I have done newspaper pellets seem to be the type most recommended for ferrets and their health. Have I been reading wrong all this time???

Ferreholic- it's wood shavings that are considered to be bad. Mainly because most(not all) haven't been cured to remove the resins in the wood. If it HAS been treated, as with hardwood pellets it's fine
