How's Loki doing now? Is he mad at his Mom? He's sleeping now. He did poo but it's still the same. Not as much as normal and he's only gone twice today. Very odd for him. I feel like his eating has slowed way down too. He is still on his bowl of food since tues. :-( but then again my son fed him so he may have given him a lot of food. But still. This does t seem normal for Loki. i do have another question. Do kits sleep more then mature ferrets?

My kits seemed like they never slept. The ones who could hear would leap awake the second they heard me near the cage, so they could come out and play. They had lots of energy, too much for mom, lol. If he's sleeping a lot, he could be bored. Ferrets need a lot of attention and mental stimulation or get bored easily, especially if they're solo. They're a little less maintenance if you have a pair (or more! Lol), because they can also play and entertain each other.
You should be changing out the kibble once a day. IME it gets stale and gross when it's left out too long. When mine were on kibble, they wouldn't even eat it when it was out too long.

He sleeps a couple hours at a time then plays for a couple hours then sleep. He woke up and is eating now.

That sounds normal. On average, they sleep 18 hours a day.

@poncesmom what do you think about blue buffalo blue wilderness kitten food?

I went to their website and looked at ingredients; The Blue Buffalo blue wilderness kitten food Grain Free Indoor recipe has peas in it. Peas have been linked to kidney stones. I'd avoid that one. The Blue Wilderness Chicken Recipe for kittens has sweet potatoes, cranberries, blueberries and carrots, but no peas. Kibble has to have some of those ingredients in order for the meat to hold it's shape. It's not my favorite option, but better than the first one. Blue Healthy growth is chicken and brown rice. Ferrets can't process starches, grains/carbs or veggies. It has brown rice, oatmeal, barley and the dreaded peas. I would avoid that one. Those are the dry kibbles. Blue Wilderness makes canned wet kitten foods, that include some proper nutrients and chicken products. They also contain salt and guar gum (a sweetener that is used as a thickening agent). All in All, I wouldn't choose one of their products. I'm going to tag unclejoe for you. He may have some better recommendations. I don't want to seem negative but their diet is critical to their health and well being. A good diet will save you heart ache and vet bills farther down the road. As far as Loki sleeping habits. He is young, ferrets do sleep alot and they will sleep more if they are bored. He's still a baby and will play like crazy and then sleep for hours. Ferrets tend to be most active in the early morning (dusk) and the early evening (sunset). Mine are. and while they will get up and wander around in the middle of the day, they tend to take a long nap after play and breakfast and then get up to play for only half an hour or so. Then after dinner and playtime, they go to bed. My two baby girls will bounce around the bed inviting me to play around 3 a.m. but play on their own when Mom and Dad don't get up.

Ok if I wanted to feed my little guy wild game, my husband is an outdoorsmen and I can get plenty. How would we process that? Example, how fine do I it chop it up? Do I freeze it first? Do I cook it? What about parasites? @poncesmom

Three sites to check out are :
Mypetcarnivore
Hare-today (some whole prey, mainly grinds)
And rodentpro (whole prey)
Imo order duck and chicken hearts from hare today, maybe a few items that mypetcarnivore doesn't have, and if you want to do some whole prey, look into that.
Also, you will benefit getting a cheap deep freezer from lowes or Home Depot for about $200 or so.

I am just tuning in now but for kibbles this would be my recommendation. Please no blue buffalo the meat is poultry by product which isn't balanced for a ferret. If you are looking for a good kibble I would recommend Orijen or Natures variety. There is a Natures variety rabbit based kibble and a turkey and duck kibble that looked pretty good. Not all recipes in natures variety are the same so check out the ingredients carefully. I use this breakdown to decided on a kibble. The ideal is meat for the first 5-10 ingredients try and buy kibbles with very little veggie content any more then 5 veggie ingredients I don't use it. Also where the meat and veggies are on the list matter the lower down the veggies are the less I count it against the kibble. Grain free is a must for me. Also avoid kibbles with fruits at all cost i.e. blueberries, pears, apples, raisins. I also try and stay away from added salt in the ingredients. I currently feed these kibbles mixed in a bowl: Orijen Cat and kitten kibble (chicken based) Ziwipeak Cat Beef (Beef based) Orijen Regional red (Boar,Venison and Beef based) Freeze dried topper of Orijen Tundra Cat treat (venison, elk, quail) I also feed freeze dried raw in the am and pm. I use all three stella and chewy cat recipes. Let me know if you have any questions on my feeding routine I have to agree with the group though raw is best for ferrets. I am working on switching my older ferrets over. -Alison

Thanks @fender!
Ok so this morning when I cleaned his box he had had a very runny almost peachy in color poo. Looks like there was a lot of mucus in it......or could it be the egg from last night?

Thanks @fender! Ok so this morning when I cleaned his box he had had a very runny almost peachy in color poo. Looks like there was a lot of mucus in it......or could it be the egg from last night? It sounds like an egg poop. You'll get some funky poops during a transition and with new foods. Just keep an eye on them and if the funky poops keep occurring, post a pic and we'll look at it and see if you should be worried. Poop Patrol, never ending. I much prefer Poop Patrol with my fur kids to when it was with my skin kids.
