You get a kitchen scale and weigh it in oz. Its important to have a scale to weigh the meat on or you wont have proper balance.
What have you been feeding him the last day? How small are they? Black/tarry poops can be a sign of digested blood from the upper GI, this is serious, I think a Vet visit is in order with him still rubbing his bottom and having those types of poops.

he is a butt wiper. his butt does seem irritated after he poops, but I don't think it's for 20 mins. more like 5.

today he has had soup with: no eggshells, one heart, one liver, one chicken thigh, skinned and boned with salmon oil. yesterday was just liver soup with salmon oil and the lots of pumpkin and vaseline. the poops are tiny, about a half inch and really soupy. he also pooped a huge green scuzzball of slime after he pooped his pumpkin out.

he had one regular poop today. i never thought i'd want to be proud of a poop. what would the vet do for a GI? it's always something with this guy.

How is the use in his back legs? He could have a minor prolapse... I think Sherry said this but you can put some prep h on it.
Make this batch of soup tonight it will roughly be balanced, too much liver can cause vitamin a toxicity so we need correct proportions.
2 - 2 1/2 chicken thighs 2 chicken hearts 1/2 chicken liver 1/2 tsp eggshell powder
Make this and blend to a creamy or pudding consistency.
I don't like how his stomach isn't clearing up and going back to normal, the Vet would give him some meds for his tummy, probably do a barium x ray and give him something like Sulcrate, Amoxicillian, Metronidazole, one or all three.
Is he straining to poop? How many hours apart is he pooping?

his legs seem much better than yesterday, he was running around earlier and climbing. He is only straining a little (again, in comparison to yesterday) and his poops are about two to three hours apart. I dob't have a scale or prep h. I've been putting anti-biotic ointment on his lil butt. we are doing everything to make him comfortable though. I don't like how his tummy isn't feeling well either. we switched pretty much immediately over to raw so maybe that's why his tummy is so upset, in conjunction with too much eggshells and not enough heart. I will make him a batch of your stuff right away. are u sure he should have eggshells? I don't want to hurt his tummy more. we are grinding them up old school style with mortar and pestle bc we have a crappy food processor, and i dont think the shells are powdery enough.

If he continues like he is for 1-2 more days or gets worse at all take him to the Vet. How old is he again? How long has he been eating the soup?
If you don't put the eggshell in he will have very runny poops and won't be getting any calcium, just put 1/2 tsp and you can add a drop or two of salmon oil, not much just a little to his soup when you feed him. What is the consistency of his poop right now?

his poops are normal color, getting to a more solid consistency, and he was very very energetic this morning! so much so that I think he needs to rest, he's worn himself out playing. This is such a relief. I am calling the vet back about the lupron today. fingers crossed we have a good rest of the day. Boyfriend got him eating out of the bowl by himself last night. moment by moment with this guy. enjoying the time we have together. <3 Thanks again for all the advice, we will keep everyone updated as we continue.

Update: he is not as energetic as we would like, got a vet appointment for monday, hopefully a second opinion will shed some light on his upset stomach and hopefully we can give him something to help settle it. the lupron is much much more than we can afford, unfortunately. IN OTHER NEWS: he now wags his tail. one in a million, this one. enjoying him while he's here. he is struggling, and it is hard, but we are doing everything we can afford to make these moments count together. will update on monday. <3 thanks for the support everyone. much love from gidge and I.

Sorry, haven't read through everything. I assume he may have adrenal disease if you are considering lupron? If so, this is one of the major illnesses that HAS to be treated. Death from adrenal is pretty horrible.

I am aware of the gravity of the illness. I've already lost one baby to it, pretty much overnight. If there was an option I could afford, if I was able to get him the treatment he needed for both his illnesses, of course I would. Death from any disease is pretty horrible. We cannot afford his Lupron, and that's just that. I sincerely wish I could. I'm just sorry I didn't prepare for something like this. He doesn't deserve to suffer.

Can you try another vet? I don't know where you are, but I'm on the east coast of Florida, and I used to have 2 vets near me that used to do lupron, They didn't have enough demand to keep it in stock, so If I wanted it I'd have to buy a whole package for around $900. After calling a dozen vets, I finally found a vet an hour away (listed on the AFA website) that has keeps it in stock. It's still more than I was paying a couple years ago, but $150 max. is a lot better than $900. Jaffa will be going there Monday. good luck.

Call around different Vets, even ones not in your area or state, the ones not within driving distance ask if they can ship it to your Vet.
Do you qualify for Care Credit? We've got $1,500+ in Vet bills on there, a lot to pay off but we would have lost ours if we couldn't have used it.
