He can weigh it twice a day. He just can't watch them eat. I can't all the time either but I like to know who is eating what.
I've been weighing their food but they eat off the same plate and eat at different times. Rebel eats right when she gets up and then snacks throughout the day. Riot needs to make sure everything is the same as yesterday and then he eats. They both snack. I feed them about 6 oz a day, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less depending on the water I add, they normally leave an oz a day and eat it sometime the next day or the next. They love their stash.
I did bone in quail and then bone in CGH, moved on to bone in duck and then now pork. I haven't done a full heart meal yet but they will get one tomorrow night. I have done a half heart, half organ meal and they will get a full organ meal before I leave and the fiance will feed them their meals for those days as well.
Sun Am – CGH – BI Sun Pm – 1/2 Chicken liver 1/2 beef kidney (2oz, 2oz) – O
Mon Am – CGH - BI Mon Pm – Chicken with eggshell powder
Tue Am - Beef Heart with soup gravy – M/H Tue Pm – chicken with eggshell powder - BI
Wed Am – Chicken - M Wed Pm – Quail -BI
Thu Am - 1/2 beef heart, ¼ pork liver 1/8 pork brain 1/8 pork kindey (2oz, 1oz, .5 oz .5 oz) – O/H(Taurine source) Thu PM – CGH - BI
Fri Am – Chicken - M Fri Pm – Quail - BI
Sat Am – Chicken - M Sat Pm – Quail - BI
This is the menu I was going to use while I was gone. All the baggies will be labeled and all he has to do is thaw and add water.

Your menu looks good to me, @poncesmom what do you think? My phone isn't the most reliable for overlooking it lol.

(dance) You have a nice variety of proteins, the right amount of Bone In meals, muscle meat meals and the correct percentage of Organs. My only suggestion would be to consider adding a ground beef or ground turkey with egg for one of the chicken muscle meat meals. The more variety the better and an egg is great for them. They are getting beef in their organ meals and that's great. Beef is high in Iron and Vitamin B. Some of the Mentors prefer to have a beef meal as a muscle meat meal instead of, or in addition to an organ meal. I would also like to see one of those muscle meat meals be gizzards, duck or chicken. Gizzards are great for cleaning teeth and building jaw strength. That's a personal preference on my part, but gizzards are a great muscle meat. If you can find duck gizzards, then you get the benefit of duck without the expensive of buying a whole duck or duck parts. Plus it gives you one more protein. You did very well.

Thank you! They are eating gizzards now. Chicken and they like them it seems. Rebel won't eat a full one though. She spits out the rest of it after she chews on them.
This menu is only for when I'm gone. I leave on the 6th and I'll be back on the 13th of January. I'm going to introduce beef when I get back, along with goat and beef tongue. Then it'll be on to frog legs and smelt. And then hopefully they will be onto bigger chunks. They eat longer slivers but not quite chunks yet.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy new year!
Meal prep question? I am going to be preparing 8 days of meals, 16 meals total for when I leave for the fiance. I'm off today and I work through the weekend and 16 meals is a lot to do. We are snowboarding on Monday and then Tuesday I leave. I work a small four shift on Sunday and can get all of it done on Sunday. However, is the meat going to go bad in the fridge that long? If I freeze half of it after I thaw it to prepare it is it going to make the meat all funky? More worried about heart and liver for the thawing refreezing process.

Happy New Year to you also. Snowboarding sounds fun. I can barely ski though. I'm a Florida girl and have only been skiing a few times. I spent more time in the lodge enjoying the warm drinks and pretty ski outfits.
You should be okay to refreeze it. They won't touch it if it goes bad.
Generally, when I go shopping for ferret food, it's frozen when I come home. I put it in the fridge and the next day, portion it out. So, it's defrosted some. Then it goes back into the freezer until I pull it out for meal time.
Have a great trip and lot's of fun. (dance)

Okay, awesome!
Any other news, I was digging out some marrow of some duck bones yesterday with a knife (Yes, I know, knife 101 of things not to do) and I sliced through my index finger of my left hand. It was a filet like slice and I saw bone or deep tissue or what ever is white in your fingers. No stitches thankfully but it hurts. First raw war wound!

Heart did not go over so well this morning. It was ground with some slivers in it, I put duck fat and salmon oil on it. Rebel ate a little but before the salmon oil, about .5 oz and I had to hand feed her and scruff and stuff the next .5 oz. Riot ate 1 oz by himself (after the salmon oil) and I made him eat another .5 oz. They got blood every where which was funny.

Weigh in time
Riot - 2 lbs 3.3 oz - A loss of 1.2 ozs.
Rebel - 1 lb 10.8 oz - A loss of .1oz so pretty much stable.

Ah the finger cutting of raw meat prep, it happens to the best of us My girl doesn't like heart either, although I can get her to eat it, she doesn't really like it. You can blend it up, or have your fiance blend it into a soup for when you leave, and work on getting them to eat it better when you come back. If they are iffy about organ meals you can do this too, and just work on it when you are back, that will be fine.

I have such lazy bone eaters! They will eat chunks, they will eat bone but ONLY if mom is holding it and holding them. Little brats. They are getting better at it though. Rebel will grab huge pieces off my hand and eat the whole thing. Riot is little more picky but he eats bone better.
Right now, they are eating 1 oz of ground duck, water added to make soup, consistency varies, with 1 oz of duck bone and chunks sprinkled with some eggshell, three times a day.

Congratulations on your first war wound. I hope it didn't hurt too much. I have a lazy bone eater also. But yours sound like they are doing quite well actually. You only started in December and Riot and Rebel are moving forward nicely. Where are you at with organs? What organs do you have?

They have had two organ meals, one with half heart and one full organ meal.
For the half meal of heart, I use 1/2 heart, 1/4 pork liver, 1/8 pork brain, 1/8 pork kidney, all blended, 4 ozs.
For their full organ meal, they get 1/2 Chicken liver, 1/2 beef kidney, 4 ozs, the kidney is blended while the liver is in slivers.
They don't like it too much but with some salmon oil and a little coaxing from me they will eat it.
I'm glad they are moving along, just frustrated that I KNOW they will eat bone but refuse to do it themselves. Silly ferrets.
Today, I noticed that Riot smells a lot less. I have to get my face right next to his body to smell him at all. Rebel still smells a little though. Not that I mind, I like ferret smell.

I like ferret smell too. I only notice it at pet stores, mine don't smell like that. Then again, I have a terrible sense of smell and live with them. Bitbyter calls it olfactory fatique. I can smell the grape smell though.
They are moving along nicely. You won't have to hand feed forever, but for now enjoy the bonding time.
