Glad she is enjoying the walks. As for the amount of food. Jills can eat surprisingly little and now that you only have one it is much easier to track how much she eats. As long as she isn't losing weight she should be fine. Her appetite should start increasing soon though to put on weight for winter.

Good news! We are at 100% slivers, no soups! Not as good of news.....Bea is not eating much of it at all. I appreciate reading from you that that is normal for jills this time of year. I fear that she's not eating much because she doesn't like it and I'm a mean mom for not giving her what she loves (egg meal every day and FDR and soups). But she'd eat more of the egg, FDR, and soups because that's more established and easier to eat (no chewing), am I right? As for her weight, it looks like she lost 1.5 oz over the last week. That's not very significant, right? And could be seasonal related too? I just really want to know that I'm not making her be hungry all the time Should I really try to get her to eat her slivers if she doesn't do it on her own - like hold her in my lap and let her eat off my finger? she will eat some then but still, not much. She most licks at the pieces rather than taking them and eating them.... Yeah, you've got to work on her chewing those slivers. Try and get at least 1 oz into her a day. More if you can. She shouldn't be dropping weight at this time of year. They should have already dropped to their summer weight by now and should be stable. In a few weeks they should start putting on weight for winter.

Ok. I'll do that. It would be hard for me not to with how much I worry. Do you think she's just being stubborn because it's not soups? I'm assuming she will grow to love her slivers/chunks like she grew to love her soups?
Is it concerning that she's been dropping weight since about late May? Her activity level is fine. She chows like a starved creature when I give her FDR and egg with soups so she has an appetite. I know it's probably hard to say but do you have any idea why she could be dropping at this time of year?

Dropping weight in may is normal but it should have stabilized by July. Hand feed the slivers if necessary. Maybe just dampen them a bit in her FDR mix.

Hmm, interesting. Any ideas why she may be dropping weight? She's always been such a chunk. Her activity level seems great and very normal for her so I haven't worried. I just made an appointment for her to have a check up and blood work, partially because I'm not sure about her weight loss, but mostly because I think it would probably be ok for her to get on an every 6 month schedule for check ups and blood work. It will give me piece of mind.
Intake
8/22 AM - 1.8 oz* 8/22 PM - 0.9 oz** 8/22 - overnight 0.1 oz TOTAL - 2.8 oz 8/23 AM - 0.3 oz 8/23 PM - 0.4 oz 8/23 - overnight 0.4 oz TOTAL - 1.1 oz 8/24 AM - 2.7 oz* 8/24 PM - 0.2 oz 8/24 - overnight 0.1 oz TOTAL - 3.0 oz
* - indicates egg and soup meal ** - indicates FDR meal
I've been hand feeding her her slivers/chunks and as of last night, she ate some on her own out of her bowl so that's happy!
I prepped a bunch of food while I was on vacation from work last week. (I stayed home all week.) I made 2 big batches of 4 small batches following the soup recipe in the files but with slivers. In the first big batch, what she's eating now, I did 3 small batches of small slivers and 1 small batch of a little bit bigger slivers.
In the second big batch, the batch she will eat next, I did 1 small batch of small slivers and 3 small batches of a little bit bigger slivers. So gradually, the batches will be made up of bigger and bigger slivers and chunks.
That's my plan for now. If you'd like me to post pictures of what a "small sliver, little bit bigger sliver, etc." looks like, I sure can do that.
Thanks!

Ok, I'll post pics of the sliver sizes this weekend. Especially after our "scare" last night, I'd love to have your input on if I'm on track with the sizes. Maybe I'll put down a quarter or something for reference. Are our American quarters close in size to any of your Canadian currency? It's been a while since I've come across any.
Speaking of our "scare" last night. Bea is just fine (and probably satisfied with her self that she scared the bejezus out of me. that doesn't take much though...). She even got out of bed on her own this morning and ate almost all of her breakfast I put down for her. I'm not stopping home on lunch today to hand feed her, so today will be a test to see if she can be trusted to eat on her own without being hand fed.

Yes are quarters are pretty much the same size. Sounds good re: not coming home for lunch. She should do fine.

Bea is eating TWICE the daily amount ON HER OWN as of yesterday! Yay!! She is going to get back to her chunky little self in no time I didn't have to hand feed her at all yesterday and she had 2 oz in a little over a 24 hour period. I'm so proud of her Here is a picture of the two different sizes she's eating right now. I think they pieces are pretty representative of the different sizes although, obviously not all pieces are exactly one of these sizes or the other but I try to be really intentional and uniform when I'm cutting the different sizes. So in this big batch of 4 batches (the recipe in the files for soups), there are 3 batches of the small sizes and 1 batch of the big sizes. She's been eating that for about 2 weeks now and will probably finish it in appx 2 more weeks depending on how her appetite picks up or stabilizes in the coming days. Then we will move on to the next batch I made which has 3 times the amount of the big size and 1/3 less the small size.

Just trying again to see if making it a little bigger is helpful.

What do you think about the size of the chunks? I was on my home computer when I uploaded them. Now I'm on my work computer and I don't see them. Hopefully you can see them.

My little chunker is eating on her own, no hand-feeding anymore. And she's eating around double what I'd been trying to get into her when I was hand-feeding. Pretty soon, I think she will back to her chunky self again. Maybe her weight gain season is just a little delayed? I have a vet appointment next week for a check up and blood work just to make sure we are on track and feeling good.

Yep, those look good. Keep on going and great news that she is eating on her own without encouragement. Now that she is eating chunks you should be able to start increasing the size pretty quickly. Maybe this weekend, try taking a chicken wing, cover it with a kitchen towel and beat the crap out of it with the back of a cleaver. Then cut up into pieces. See if she'll eat any of the bone.
Sorry about not replying sooner. This is my busiest time of year at work so finding time for other things is tough.

No worries about not replying sooner. I used to get email notifications saying when you've posted but for some reason I haven't been getting those lately. I'll try the chicken wing thing as soon as I can. I don't have my cleaver yet but should be able to get it soon. Even if I don't have a cleaver, I could still smash it up with something else, couldn't I? Would a hammer work?
