Are Bunnies cuddly? I've heard they aren't, which is a bummer, lol.

Are Bunnies cuddly? I've heard they aren't, which is a bummer, lol. Most aren't, really. Mine are more than many. In part due to their breed. Angoras are bred to be basically micro sheep, and require a fair amount of grooming so they need to be willing to suffer much handling. Ond of my does, Sophie, LOVES to be held and will sit quietly on my lap for hours while I pet and comb her. My other adults tolerate but don't love being held and prefer to be able to run around at will. At this point, the babies want to be held and touched, and if I keep handling them every day they should be more like Sophie, seeking out human contact. In general to a rabbit, being cuddled can be almost a predatory thing. When everything wants to eat you, you don't want to be restrained so you can't get away! But if the rabbit views you as a protector that can be changed a lot. (And if you're Sophie you decide that nothing can hurt you and dogs need to be punched...)

I'll take Sophie and one baby please (giggle) Nope! Sophie is mine, all mine! She's my primary wooler. Grows more hair, faster than any of the others. She's also kind of a prude who refuses to breed. I'm just about to finish up spinning her wool from our last grroming session. Should be enough for a scarf, but I think I'll save it until I have enough for a shawl or a lace jacket.

Sorry I haven't updated in a couple days. Stuff getting in the way and all that. Anyway. The kids are three weeks old now and up and playing! They hop and bop and are attempting to climb the bars of their cage like little spider monkeys. I'm going to be building them a new, bigger cage to grow up in so Nougat can get some peace and quiet once they're weaned. (should be next week already, usually happens around 4 weeks) I THINK I have three girls and a boy. Two of the girls are chocolate, one is white, and the boy appears to be a confusing color called chocolate self chinchilla. Basically, he's genetically not the color he appears to be (sort of like the red-eyed white, which just masks the genetic color). He's a lighter shade of brown, with grey eyes instead of brown. He's also quite the little ham and won't sit still for pictures! Here's choco girl one. For now, we'll call her Tierney. (as in Gene Tierney) She's sassy and bold and her head is currently enormous. She'll grow into it. Choco girl two, calling her Loren. (as in Sophia Loren!) She's the tiny queen of side-eyes and death glares. Much attitude to be had here, she does have a sweet side and nose bumps my hands if I stop petting her after a death glare. Girl three, of course, is the white one and stands out for a few reasons. She has longer fur, already, than her siblings, and she's the most eager to get attention. She's the first to try new things. Getting out of the box, eating solid food, drinking water, whatever it is they're doing, you can be she started it. She is Monroe, and already starting to answer to it. (As in Marilyn, in case you couldn't guess) And here's the only boy, Taylor. (as in Elizabeth Taylor, she of the violet eyes) He has lovely grey eyes that are almost violet in some light, and even if he's the wrong color for a show rabbit, he's adorable. You can see here that he's lighter than his sisters. Can't see his eyes though. LOL He seems to take after mama, wanting to lick the camera. All the kids in a pile under the heat lamp...they like it better than their old nest! Mama Nougat apparently got possessed by a rabbit demon when I wasn't looking. A double death glare... Just so snuggly...

Taylor is a NAUGHTY bunny! I had my playpen (dog pen, not used for ferrets ever) on the rug and brought them in to play and give mama a break, and he found out he could squeak through the bars and was on his way to go explore the rest of the house, Basset Hound, Chihuahua, and big ol' housecat be damned!
He is sweet though, and comes bumbling up for affection between escape attempts.

So, Taylor is a GIRL. Which means I'm probably not keeping her even though I love her. I'll look for a pet/fiber home for her. She's not showable with her grey eyes. She is adorable and lovable though. I attempted to pose them today, to start deciding if there are any show quality babies. That went...um. Well, it went. "Posed" Taylor. She was trying to scamper. Loren - Chocolate doe, her mother's breeder has dibs on her. LOL I think she's turning out lovely. Loren's bad pose. Her toes shouldn't be sticking out like that. But she behaved quite well. Tierney - Chocolate buck. I think I'm keeping him, since their father died. He looks like he's shaping up well, nice attitude, fingers crossed that I can show him! Tierney's pose...where did all that light come from? I don't know. Must just be his inner radiance...LOL Monroe - Ruby Eyed White doe. Hubby loves her, so I'm probably keeping her. I don't think she's going to be a show rabbit. Something is just a smidge off about her. She may grow out of it though. So, keeping an eye on her. She's a character. No posed pics of Monroe. She is STUBBORN.

My daughter (26) is a Taylor, I'll trade you. She's high mx and not near as fluffy.

LOL And what am I gonna do with a 26 year old? Suppose I could send her to work in my place and then I could play with ferrets and bunnies all day.
Loren and Tierney will be going to their first show in January. From there, Loren goes to her new home. I'm trading her for a new buck. He's what is called a black tort Satin Angora, kind of tan with a black face and ears, really colored similarly to Mama Nougat but darker. They have to be three pounds each, which at this rate, will happen, since they're gaining a quarter pound in just a couple days right now. I have to tattoo them prior to the show, left ear, and they'll have EK and the first two letters in their names. EK for Ekalpaos Angoras, my rabbitry name. So, Loren will have EKLO and Tierney will have EKTI. Taylor - EKTA, and Monroe, EKMO. If they do well enough in shows to be registered, they'll get a series of numbers in their right ears, too. So, I'm gonna have to get pretty good with a tattoo pen. Some people use the ones sold on Amazon for permanent cosmetics. Also, during tattooing the bunnies are usually in a sweatshirt sleeve with their heads poking out of the cuff so they can't kick. I'm a little nervous about it, but we'll see. My rabbit mentor says she can teach me the morning of the show, which is fairly common for first timers. LOL

My little babies are growing up! First up, my boy Tierney. I didn't pose him very well, but overall I think he has good structure and now his coat is coming in, and it's gorgeous. He is very friendly and greets everyone who approaches with a standing sniff. It's very cute to see this little bunny pop up on his hind legs to sniff people. He's developing a nicely masculine face! Next up, Loren. I'm very happy with how this little lady is developing. She's a big solid girl, but better body type than her mother, a perfect blend of her mother's sturdiness and her father's graceful shape. She's not as friendly as the others, but she has her moments and she will do anything for a bite of dried apple. Again, posed badly, but this was my first attempt with her. Loren has a very pretty face! Next up, Taylor! She's easily the most cooperative and easy-going one. If her eyes weren't the wrong color for her coat, I'd show her. Since they're not, she gets to be a wool-bunny and a pet for someone else. She's extremely friendly and hops onto my lap every chance she gets. Her coat is growing in spectacularly, and I really think if not for the eye color she would be show quality. Alas, the Standard of Perfection says that chocolate coat needs BROWN eyes, not grey. Taylor loves a neck rub... Last, but not least, Monroe. She's the funniest one, when she gets tired she very dramatically THROWS herself to the floor. Her ears droop when she gets too warm. She gets jealous when Taylor is hogging all the attention. She figured out where I keep the dried apples and tries to help herself to them. She throws things when she's excited. Due to her droopy ear, I don't think she's show quality. Which is fine, as she's being kept as a pet and a wool-bunny. She's built almost exactly like her mama, and has a similar Diva temperament. She wants attention, just on her terms. No closeups today, please...LOL

They are all so beautiful. I love hearing about their personalities. Maybe you could get Taylor some colored contact lenses.

They are so lovely! I love hearing about their 'standard.' I showed dogs growing up and it seemed like it was always the ornery ones who were show quality... I had a LOVELY red and white b**ch that I helped whelp and fell in love with. She turned out to have a bad head and the lighter eyes (which the standard doesn't prefer), but she was my baby anyhow! Her brother, also a read and white, had the nice dark eyes and nose, but he was h*ll to stack and do any kind of confirmation with. She ended up being my Jr dog for a few years :0)
