I have my first litter of Satin Angora bunnies! I'm hoping to show one or two when they grow up, they have really good bloodlines. Even if I can't show them, they'll have lovely coats for my spinning. And, any that don't live, go to the ferrets. (one already is, it died from cold and a broken leg) The parents - Odin (Oceanside Grand Marnier) and Daisy Hill Nougat Newborn babies in an angora comforter! Yeah, they look like used bubblegum right now. They'll be cuter in a week or so. Six in all, five chocolate like daddy, one white, possibly pearl like momma.

OMG I have so thought about getting an angora. I knit for a living so, ya know, makes sense right? Oh yeah I have to learn how to spin first. Lol They are so soft and cuddly but I read they are quite a bit of work. Are they more or less than ferts?

OMG I have so thought about getting an angora. I knit for a living so, ya know, makes sense right? Oh yeah I have to learn how to spin first. Lol They are so soft and cuddly but I read they are quite a bit of work. Are they more or less than ferts? As far as basic care, cleaning and feeding, goes, I'd say less. Grooming, LOTS more. My buck wasn't maintained very well before I got him, and I had to shear him almost bald to get the mats off. Once they're de-matted it's a matter of a couple times a week, taking a wide tooth comb over them to keep them neat, and blowing them out with either an industrial dog dryer or a shop-vac. I don't have one yet, so for now I use a regular hair dryer on cool. I'm aiming to not shear, but gently comb out the loose fur for spinning, but even so, there are areas that mat super easily. (feet!!! and genitals) They need a little bit of papaya or pineapple every week to help prevent hairballs, which can bring their digestive system to a screeching halt. (I lost a Lionhead that way last year) They can be a handful, temperament wise. The German Angoras are usually pretty friendly and almost puppy like, the Satins are more reserved and cat like. Get them in a bad mood, and they claw you half to death. The Monty Python rabbit is based in fact, I swear. LOL When they're happy though, they really can be very sweet and cuddly.

Teehee. The babies are so cute and hairless! Give 'em a couple weeks...they'll be explodey balls of puff once their baby coats come in! I can't wait til they're about two weeks old...bunnies are ridiculously adorable at that age.

can you send me some of those cute little babies?? :boing: Nooooooooooooo! I need them all for me! I'm going to burrow under a pile of tiny fluffballs! :hug2: Actually, once they're old enough most will be finding homes. One or two will be my show prospects, and at least one has to go to the breeder I got the mom from. (we're trading...I get a gorgeous new fellow from a different bloodline, she gets to continue an existing one she established)

Too bad you live all the way in washington... plus I have enough animals O.O I think my OH would kill me if I brought home more.... Well...I'm sure there are breeders in Texas...in fact right now most of the big names in pedigreed rabbits are in Texas for the ARBA convention. But yeah, I know what you mean about having enough! Especially when you'd have to go through the whole expense of setting up housing and everything else for another one. My hubby is in love with the rabbits so he's cool with me adding new ones. He's a little scared of the ferrets though.

A whole day old! LOL Already growing, Nougat is a very good mom who takes feeding her babies seriously. The babies grunt and make funny little noises when they're moving around.

They are! Satin angora fur winds up feeling like silk, but fluffy. I can't wait til they start getting their puffy baby coats.

Today's baby pictures - Babies are VERY active and squirmy and don't want their pictures taken! All are looking fat and healthy and Momma Nougat is in good shape, eager for her petting and treats every morning. Look at the tiny little EARS!!! Blurry, but NOSE!!! "We're going back to sleep now," as they bury themselves in mom's hair.
