LOL, try hooking the wing to the side of their cage. If you can find some of the old fashioned pear shaped shower curtain hooks, those work great for hooking meat. That said, chopping the wing isn't a terrible thing to have to do, but each time chop it a little less so their pieces keep getting bigger.
Just FYI, ground turkey is 2 no-no's at my house. My kids are not overly fond of turkey and they won't touch anything ground, so it may be that yours won't like it. Definitely TRY it, but if they fight it too much, you might just want to find something to replace it with.

Yep, exactly like those, except I get them at Goodwill.
I'm not home right now, so I'll post my menu for this week later.

I shop at local grocery stores, get organs from a local butcher, and the deer heart from a friend who hunts. No special stores in my little bitty town.
But you live in Chicago.. there have to be some good sources for exotic meats somewhere in that city. Did poncesmom ever get back with you about sources?

She did post that link a couple pages back. It's a huge list and I haven't had the time to go them all yet. Does your butcher charge you a lot for the organs?

The butcher is a friend of a friend and doesn't charge me anything. They're just going to throw them away, so once in a while he'll send me a big box. The last box was 85 pounds worth.
Where are we in this switch now? With the holidays and being sick, I feel like I'm very much behind. Are they still improving with their bones, and what new proteins have you tried now? I need to get caught up, lol.

Sorry I'm late replying! Christmas went and came and then it was also my birthday. To be honest, I haven't tried any new proteins with them since the ground turkey. I'm sorry >_< But today I'm gonna drive around and check out some shops on that list.
I've been giving them chicken wing chunks with bone and chopped up chicken heart. Coco loves the wings, and Chanel loves the heart. And I put in some chicken liver sometimes and Chanel eats that too.

OK, so the only protein they're getting right now is chicken? Sometimes mixed with heart and sometimes with liver? Are they both eating the bones? Are they both eating the heart and liver? How often are they getting liver?
We need to get this switch back on track. It seems that we've stalled, for whatever reasons, and it's time to move forward again. They have to have variety in their diet, so pick another protein and let's get them started on it. Have you found another organ yet besides liver?

Yes, they are both eating bones and heart. Coco needs some coaxing with the liver. I have some beef heart and pork kidney in my freezer.

Kidney is very likely going to be a tough one for them to accept. A lot of ferrets just really don't like it. But we'll give it a shot. Use a vegetable peeler and shave a few slivers off of the frozen chunk. What is their favorite meal? That is what you want to mix those slivers in. You need to get another bone in meat to get started on. Suggestions that you can find at a supermarket..quail, duck, frog legs. Just be sure whatever you get has no additives.

I know there's at least one in Chicago that carries all kinds of exotic meats but I can't remember who it is that's talked about it. I'll see if I can find out for you. Hi, Happy New Year! (dance) I just remembered you saying this before, do you still have a clue where that place is? I drove around today and looked at each place on that List that poncesmom posted but no luck still. If not, I might just have to order from a butcher. I've re-done my menu, hope it's alright: Sun AM: organ meal - ½ chicken liver, ½ kidney Sun PM: edible bone-in meat - CGH Mon AM: edible bone-in meat - quail Mon PM: edible bone-in meat - rabbit Tues AM: chicken heart Tues PM: edible bone-in meat - chicken wings Wed AM: muscle meat - fatty cut of beef mixed with egg (whip it with warm water and pour over it) (ground beef, fatty chuck roast, any fatty cut of beef) Wed PM: edible bone-in meat - quail Thur AM: beef heart and organ (½ liver, ½ kidney) Thur PM: edible bone-in meat - rabbit Fri AM: edible bone-in meat (or muscle) - quail Fri PM: edible bone-in meat - quail Sat AM: chicken gizzard and pork chops Sat PM: edible bone-in meat - CGH Gina, what's a good "muscle" meat to give them?? also, is 4 proteins okay instead? I'd rather not give them pork meat.

The menu looks good. if you don't want to use pork, you can use turkey, lamb, goat, venison... pretty much any kind of meat without a bone it. You can also try seafood.. any kind of small fish, shrimp, frog legs. From this menu, what do we still need to work on? I know they still need to work on bigger bone pieces, but what organs and proteins are they eating now?
