Alright so my husband decided since there are lack of FN cages on CL and after my recent excursions with some idiot people and lack of responding and or lying on CL that he'll suck it up and spend the extra $100 (I'm paying the other half on loan to him lol) and just buy it new since I'm running short on time to get the old model. I have a few questions before I place my order... Do you suggest the 142 over the 182 model? I think that the 142 model sounds better cause let's face it, I didn't have trouble putting it together and I feel safer that it has screws instead of tabs. Do you think Midwest will replace my shelves? I know about the toes getting stuck, and this worries me. I only have one shelf cover at the moment but I would like to replace the shelves completely just in case. They arn't terribly expensive but I would like the new design, they are compatible right? I think I'm buying directly from Midwest on Amazon, I'm not familiar with Amazon and only purchased once from this site. Here is the link. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F4OX0E/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DERShould it get here damaged will I have to pay for replacement parts? Since I'm not buying directly from their site (which I don't think you can...) do they question you where you got it from before replacing parts? I'd hate for it to get here damaged and I have to pay out of pocket to replace something. I'm wanting to place it directly on the ground will the doors get caught on my carpet? I have a playmat that was my daughters that's a puzzle piece and you put together, I was thinking of putting this under the cage, but I'd like to no assemble the bottom shelf and put it on the ground so I can leave the door open and not worry about them having trouble getting in and out of the cage while they are free roam. What do you use to help them navigate into the cage if you do use the stand? Do you use the shelf on the bottom for anything? Thanks for your time, I know it's a lot I just haven't owned one of these in years.

What model depends on what you plan on doing with it. Replacement parts and add ones will be easier to get with the new model.
To get into the cage I made a ladder from two boxes. Works great.
Bottom shelf here has box tubes for running through.
Keep your receipts and order info and there wouldn't be issues getting replacement parts.
If it sits directly on carpet there might be issues opening the door. Maybe you can keep like 2 in or so on the bottom to prevent that.
There is also an exit ramp you can buy.
I don't have the newest shves. I just cover them and I've never had issues. I'd love to get the new ones one day. They sound easier to clean.

I've seen it, I just don't know how if my lazy ferrets would use it. They have a superpet cage now and I leave the door open and they refuse to use the door, I have to pick them up and set them outside of the cage. So I was thinking as minimal incline as possible.

If it's a 180, the shelves will also definitely be the new style, and come with ramp covers too. I would NOT trust that just because the Amazon site says 142 that's what it'll be -- the seller is listed as Midwest, and Midwest will only be shipping out 180s.
I've heard that Midwest is pretty good about shipping out new parts if something is damaged in transit. However, they will no longer replace the shelves in older models for free.
I don't think there'd be a problem with setting it right on the floor unless your carpet is a very deep pile. The doors sit inside the frame created by the other pieces, so it'd have something like a 1/4", maybe 1/2" clearance.

Thanks Keri, So you think it's going to be a 182 >.< ? That stinks. I'll be leaving some feedback if this is the case. I ordered this one cause I REALLY like the old style and was just going to buy the new shelves if I had to.
Oh well guess I'll pay for the new shelfs out of pocked then if they won't do it for free, I just hope I can get it directly from them instead of marked up somewhere else.
Good to know, that's what I was hoping. My two kits are lazy about climbing, I'm kind of thankful cause they haven't tried my daughter's baby gate yet. So this will help tremendously trying to get them to go back in their cage when they are tired.

It definitely wouldn't hurt to at least drop a line to Amazon's customer service about it. They may or may not be aware of the new models -- though I suspect it's not Amazon's responsibility to update that, it's Midwest's. Amazon's just supplying the storefront.
Forgot: unless this cage has been sitting in an Amazon warehouse for a year (highly unlikely), you'll be getting the new shelves with it no matter which model it is. The shelves changed over months before the assembly method did.

I just got a FN from Amazon last week. It said it was the old model, but I don't know if it is or not if someone can point out the differences.

Does it have a no tool assembly? Or did it have screws and you needed a screwdriver?
I don't mind the new shelves, I just want the screws, no snap in place stuff for me, please. I will drop a line to Amazon if I can find their contact us stuff. I will probably get the cage before they reply though.

Mine had screws but I think I have different shelves, mine are like a pan and everyone else's looks flat or am I wrong in seeing that?

Ok so it has screws it's a 140s model. The pans have been updated since the very first Ferret Nation pans, which are a dangerous risk for getting little toes caught. Hence the change to the pans now. Your model is what I'm hoping I'm getting.
180s model will have the same pan shelves, but no screws. They instead will have weird pop-out inserts from what I understand. Similar to the Critter Nations.

Hm, I don't see why they would want to change something that EVERYONE seems to love as it is, they've fixed the problem with the shelves so you'd think they wouldn't want to change it even more. There should be a petition or something to keep the 140's.

I agree. I don't feel safe not having screws, I heard that it feels wobblier... which I'm not fond of. I think some complained it was hard to put together. But I put my 141 I had years ago together by myself... it didn't take me long at all.. I wish they would have the option to choose 140s or 180s. That would be ideal but would cost too much money.
