The meat you get from hare today is almost always has the GI tract gutted. It'll say on the page if it isnt. I wouldn't give them the digestive tract if it is in there, they make a mess.
Too firm poops.. hmm.. is he getting anything with egg shell powder or bone meal? Pumpkin isn't good to use all the time, and I dont think it'll really make it much softer. Maybe try to add a little salmon or fish oil to their food.
With Cam you can try to check his BG with a meter in the morning. That will give you an idea of how well he is doing throughout the night without being fed. If his BG is okay then I wouldn't worry too much. I always feed a bowl of soup to izzy before bed and she does fine at night. I do periodically check her BG in the mornings to make sure it isn't dropping too much.
Have you tried ground pork instead of chicken? or some ground beef? not all ferrets are big on grinds. Don't let her be too picky .. she is healthy so if she fasts for a meal because she turned her nose up at it, its okay. She cannot eat just chicken. She needs a variety of proteins to stay healthy.

For Cam and the firm poops, no I have not been giving him bone meal in his soups but I most certainly can. Will this help with soften them slightly? And I will definitely do a BG check in the morning times. I do a BG check about once a week but at no specific time...just when he hasn't ate for a few hours.
I will go look for ground pork at the store tonight...I've never seen it here in town, but maybe. I do know that they have ground turkey tho...would this be any better? I plan on placing an order from Hare today very soon again...I may go ahead and try the whole quail and will definitely get a variety of grinds for the girls!
Last question, I know I posted a lot the other day but was still curious about When I feel the girls eggs. I only feed the yolk. Zoe is not fond of egg, so I have to spoon feed her some until she refuses any more.(Im thinking she eat about 1/4 of a regular chicken egg yolk) How do I know if she is getting enough egg for it to be an effective hairball preventative?

No bone meal will constipated him..I would add more fluid to his FDR and see if that helps
Ground pork will give them variety. They can also eat pork rib ends if you can find them, or the pork necks have a good amount of meat that they can gnaw on.
When you feed egg you need to feed the whites and yolks. It's a balanced meal this way. Sometimes I mix egg into FDR and puree some liver to make it soupy.

If you can get a whole egg a week into her, yolk and whites it should be enough. You could try quail eggs but she would need a couple of those. Hare today sells them I think. Or if you have a food market/specialty store or whole foods, they have them.

Good Morning! Well I made some progress over the weekend with the girls! I got them both to eat some ground pork like you had recommended! Sophie still was not very happy about it but she did eat some on her own. Also, they have been starting to veer away from beef kidney (again), so I made a puree of the kidney with ground pork and spoon fed them it. Sophie really seemed to enjoy it! Zoe not so much LOL, but I am going to keep doing this until they start to eat it on their own again. And this is my new plan for introducing new organs.
I found some pork riblets at the store, but they didnt have much bone at all from what I could tell...looked like mostly muscle meat...what is your take on these?
And I will start feeding the egg with whites too! I had no idea they needed both. Sophie loves egg so that will be no problem for her. and I will continue to work with Zoe to make sure she get at least one whole egg in her a week. Thank you for the advice.
Oh and noted on cam as well...I accidentally made his a little watery this morning, so that is a good start LOL....Menus to follow

Oh what type of blender do you use to puree things? I'd like to get something a little better than what I have....and you add water in with it also right?

1. Ferret's name:Shift 2. Ferret's weight: 1.70 3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal. 1.5 oz 2x a day 4. Stools on various proteins. Been ok as long as he is on pred. 5. Activity levels: Normal, seems happier than normal in the AM after soups...playing a bit more 6. Weekly menu: Shifts weekly Menu consisted of the same thing every day and 2x a day. Its NV frozen raw lamb, Stella and Chewy's Dandy Lamb FDR, Ziwi Peak for Cats Lamb formula, NV Lamb Raw boost powder formula. 1. Ferret's name:Cam 2. Ferret's weight: 2.10 LBS 3. Ferret has eaten "X" amount on average per meal. 1.5 oz of soup 2x a day 4. Stools on various proteins. Normal but a little too firm 5. Activity levels: Normal...Ive noticed him wanting to climb more...so I suppose this is a good thing! Cam's weekly menu is exactly the same as Shifts If you will note, this week I switched them up to soups only 2x a day instead of 3x, but slightly increased the amount per meal. I've noticed by the end of the week that they were snacking more on kibble and FDR again. I think they were becoming so used to the soups and that is why they slowed down on eating FDR in between meals...Since the end of this week I have noticed slightly more energy from both, so this is the route I will pursue for now.

I placed an order today from Hare Today! Here is what I got coming New things we have not tried before! Duck Hearts (they were out of chicken hearts) Ground Quail (with organ and bones) Ground Mutton (with organ and bones) Ground duck (with organ and bones) Small pork bones and then items we already eat are more chicken necks and Beef Kidney.
Hopefully this will help with my variety of proteins I need to feed!

That looks like a great order from hare today. Have you tried their rabbit? The pork riblets would be a good muscle meat, the pieces I'm talking about are rib ends. They come in a strip and they have little bits of bone in them. They are not in every grocery store so you might not be able to find them. I really think your doing great, it's all about getting some variety into their diet. I know sometimes they might not like it.. I've had to mix grinds in other grinds (like ground beef into chicken) and slowly increase the amount of the one they don't like. I do the same with hunks of meat. I'll hide the hunks of beef in with chicken chunks (I make the one they don't like much smaller) and just increase it until they are eating mostly that protein for the meal.
I use an oster blender mostly, but I have a hamilton beach food processor that works great for making grinds and soups. It's just harder to clean (lots of little spaces for meat to get squished into). I do add some water depending on the stage of switching they are at. Raw meat as a higher moisture content so they don't need the extra fluids so much, but when food is in soup form my kids inhale it lol.

Thanks for the info! We have never tried rabbit...I can certainly look into it next time around. I did want to ask you if you think the girls are getting enough in bone meat? I just worry they might not be. Maybe I am paranoid.
I will look into a food processor because my blender doesn't make the puree super fine...sometimes it leaves little chunks. Last night i blended a whole egg and some beef kidney. Sophie loved it! I had to scruff and stuff with Zoe tho...but then she ate some willingly from a spoon while I held her in place LOL

I think rabbit is a bit milder tasting so its usually accepted pretty well as a new meat.
They need 8-9 bone in meals. Your grind with bone meal will count, but I wouldn't make them the majority of the meals, they need to build jaw strength and the bones clean their teeth.
A food processor is a great tool to have, just be prepared to scrub a lot of parts lol
