They are doing fairly well with the bones. I still need to break or smash them up some. They had turkey necks for dinner the other night and only left 2-3 small pieces, half a golf ball size.
Poopies look normal. Nothing extremely runny or anything

turkey neck is pretty hard to chew, if they eat that that means they can chew all smaller bones like wings. maybe they just don't like chicken wings or they do like turkey very much. little spoiled furballs try to break wings at the joints into 3 sections and offer them each a tip section to see what they do with it. maybe they'll try to chew now. or we can try just splitting the bone to reveal the marrow and see if they'll go ahead and eat it without smashing.

They really go at the wing tips, none of those have been left. I usually find a few bits of larger bones, but they do a really good job of getting all the meat off of them, even if they don't chew into the bones. They do attempt to eat the small bones, which is good :-) Right now their rotation is between chicken, turkey, and pork. They are eating all of it really well. If I remember, I'm going to pick up some mice from work tonight for their dinner for something a little different. I hope they can figure out how to eat them on their own, because the thought of having to cut into a mouse.... I found a cleaver at WalMart, so I think I'll be picking one up next time I go shopping. YAY

They mostly eat chunks as big as my thumb, which is pretty good. Bones still need to be broken up some for them, which I don't mind too much.

it is fine to break the bones, you'll come to whole ones eventually. don't worry have you tried to give them some of the dark meat? like beef, i remember you said the lamb is too expensive there. they should have at least one dark meat in their menu.

I haven't tried beef yet. Would venison be okay? I can get the cheap/free since my family hunts and we have a ton of it in the freezer.
They had mice last night for dinner. Percy had a blast chomping into a mouse. He ate one in about 3 minutes. I've never seen him so eager for food before. I think mice/rat may have to be in the rotation LOL. I've been reading up on live feeding lately. Since he's so vigorous with dead ones, I think he'd be a good candidate for a live feeding. (mice only!) Still debating though, I'm a bit squeamish about having to dispatch a mouse if the need arose (though I did practice on a dead one, yech)
Chicken was on the menu today. I cut some meat off of a thigh, and chopped it into big chunks, then hung the meaty bone in their cage for a fun snack/toy/entertainment. Just like a chicken pinata! Even Owen took a turn, but I don't think he liked getting hit in the face :heehee:

venison is more than great, as long it's frozen for a while (at least for 2 weeks) to kill all possible parasites. i know that the wild boar should be avoided cause it's a carnivore and can be infected by some bacterias. and i shouldn't forget the goat meat (not wild, i know), if you can find it somewhere it's great source of Vit B and iron, like every other red meat. it is so great they want to eat the mouse. i'm sooo jealous of you!!!

Okay so I ended up finding a whole beef tongue at the store instead! It was so creepy and rough. The tastebuds look like spines. That took me about an hour to chop up. Wesley really liked it and took a piece from my hand right away. The other 2 weren't so eager, but they were also half asleep. I left a serving in the cage overnight and they ate it all. I think it made their poops a bit funky though because they looked runnier than usual, and I found one that looked a bit greenish. But they are running around and playing like normal so I am not too worried. Percy had his first hunt tonight. I brought home a live mouse (we have an overabundance of them at work right now) I was kind of nervous about how it was going to go, but was ready to step in just in case. --this part is kinda graphic--He went after it right away, but was grabbing it by the abdomen and shaking it. He did attempt to get it by the neck, but the mouse was pretty wiggly. I thought at one point I was going to have to step in, but then he saw me reaching in, and grabbed the mouse and hissed at me! Turd. I had to wait for him to drop it, but then he got it by the neck and snapped it. Then of course tried to run off with his prize. I made him eat it in the cage, where he proceeded to try and kill it all over again. Weirdo I'm not quite ready to try the other two, they just don't seem like hunters to me. Owen would probably be more worried about escaping the bathtub

hahaha, i can imagine Owen running with that mouse in his mouth and hissing it was a great mental stimulation for him. i'm not ready for that step, yet, but i'd like to give it to mine if they want to. but they are not really interested in mouse at all. so far... beef tongue is a great source of taurin and very valuable meal. i'm glad they ate it all! tongue tastebuds are really disgusting for me and i know what you've been through :goodjob: (proof we can make everything for our smelly ones :heehee:) but i have to tell you i really love to eat beef tongue in tomato sauce with capers and smashed potatos poops can be darker and runnier after it, so it's a quite normal. that greenish part is not something you should be worried about, it's only one part of one poop. it can be normal, but just in case you can monitor them. all of them are doing so great with the raw, they advanced a lot

No more greenish poop, but I noticed that it's been dark and kinda sticky. Is that normal? They are eating like little piggies and are acting fine, so I'm not too worried, but the poop is weird. Shameless brag! This weekend I took my state's certification test to become certified in teaching elementary school (preschool through 4th grade) and I passed!! Woo Hoo! I still have another test to take, plus 1 semester of student teacher before I graduate. The end is in sight!

Grrr, I typed a reply right after I saw your post, but just noticed that it didn't go through. Whoops. It doesn't seem to have much of a cause, they've had pork, beef, and chicken. Oh and some liver, but I expect funky poops with that. They also had some egg, but that made their poop more yellow.
They don't seem to be eating as much either (need to weigh it), maybe that has something to do with it. I don't think they like the bigger pieces so I'm going to chop them up smaller again and see how that goes over.
