First off I just wanted to say you guys have been so AWESOME answering all my questions and that I'm sorry I've been posting so many topics - I just keep thinking of new things, I'd post all these qusetions in ONE post but of course, I don't think of these things all at once ;D My latest question is: what's the best kind of carrier for ferrets? And what do you all use? -Hard-sided or soft-sided (can they chew through the mesh-sides?) -Do cat carriers work or should I get a "ferret" one? -Any other recommendations? Thanks guys!

I also use the smallest cat carrier I could find at Petco. It seems to work and I prefer that it's hard.

I've got several ;D I've got small, med, and larger hard sided cat carriers, depending on how many fuzz I'm taking. I've got a small sized soft sided dog carrier(mesh on all four side, and top for hot days. No problems to date with the mesh, and they have dug at it I've also got a quilted bag for out of the car, with a tandem clip for carrying two ferrets for visiting

Thanks! It sounds like a hard-sided cat carrier is a must for sure. I really do prefer soft-sided ones for some occasions though, do you remember what brand yours is Sherry? Also did you make the quilted bag yourself? Thanks

The fabric covered ones they sell for ferrets with the mesh windows are an absolute JOKE. Consider them as disposable as the cardboard ones you get when you BUY the ferret! Mimosa always made quick work pulling the seams out around the window. I think she made it out in under 15 minutes once if I'm correct.
I have a double cat carrier, hard plastic. It is heavy but roomy for them to move around on longer trips. Plenty of space for a litter pan, blanket, food and water. I even hung a hammock on our last trip. Saves time cleaning it after use if they have to go to the bathroom.

I also use cat carriers - large or small, depending on how many ferrets you have you can make a one-level or two, hang hammocks, etc. In my old large cat carrier, for day trips to the beach and such, I put some newspaper in the end and an old sweatshirt (he loves it) in the front for a bed, plus it has clip-on dishes inside that hang for a soup cube and water. When I take him out, I just harness him up and plop him in my little hemp carry bag (like a cloth flap purse), he loves it.

Can't remember the name of the soft sided dog carrier I've got right now. I'll check later and post it. For the quilted bag, a client made it for me. It includes a pocket for an icepack if it's really hot out, or even just for carrying supplies. I do have to shorten the shoulder strap as she made it too long, but it still works, and it was fantastic that she did that for me

Awesome, thanks everyone. I'll be checking out my petsmart to see if they've got that soft one on sale! And I'll pick up a hard one too for longer trips / car ride safety.
Good to know that the ferret ones don't work, I had my suspicions!
And that's awesome Sherry, sounds like a cool little bag!

Yea plus the ferret ones are too small, sure they are only like $12 but I say without a doubt spend the extra $10 and get a cat or dog soft sided carrier. Trust me you will absolutely LOVE the whisker city one. Its soooo cute and roomy. So far its actually my favorite ferret accessory

And instead of a hard carrier (I just find them not well ventilated, porous, hard to clean, etc) I say get a small/medium dog cage, they are super roomy, well ventilated, come with a removable hard plastic floor and your able to put hammocks, litter boxes, clip on crocks and everything
