And instead of a hard carrier (I just find them not well ventilated, porous, hard to clean, etc) I say get a small/medium dog cage, they are super roomy, well ventilated, come with a removable hard plastic floor and your able to put hammocks, litter boxes, clip on crocks and everything Good idea! Petsmart Shopping trip!!!!

www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4056280&lmdn=DogThat's what I mean, they are actually called crates. there are many brands and sizes, I was just trying to give a picture I'm definitely gonna get one for long distance traveling and if im staying somewhere other than home. That way it doubles as a good size cage for when your away so your definitely getting your moneys worth instead of buying a hard sided carrier AND an away from home/travel cage

I wouldn't want a wire crate, they'd be throwing litter and food everywhere, I have a large cat carrier and a medium hard plastic dog kennel, depending on how many we take, I also have several ferret cages but Pandora can slide her butt out of all of them so kennels work better.

I didn't realize the crates were that open.... I'm thinking of aiming for something inbetween. ;D

With dog crates, you also have to be very careful of the bar spacing. I've got some tiny girls who could easily fit through most of them. I just checked, and the soft sided carrier I have is a petpal. Can't find the carrier on their site, however!

Yea but for me it would be easier to hand vacuum or sweep up litter or food, it isn't any more open than a ferret nation. The crates I've seen in stores have 1in bar spacing, same as ferret nation. Id rather sweep up a few loose bits than struggle to clean out a tiny hard carrier.

And you could also wrap a towel around the base of the crate

I actually decided not to buy another carrier, as I need to start saving money for my emergency fund.
I actually already own 3 hard-sided cat carriers that my cats and hedgehogs rarely use (only for vet trips) so there's no reason they can't share, with a little cleaning between uses of course.
One of the hard-sided ones has a door on the top too - which would be perfect for hanging a hammock from so I'll stick to that.
All of the soft-sided ones I saw at Petsmart just seemed too flimsy and like the ferrets would tear right through them and I couldn't find the one you mentioned ponyolovesham. Do you have a picture of what it looks like?
I'll keep my eyes out for a petpal carrier too, thanks for looking into that for me Sherry!

You would post the pic on photobucket or Facebook and then you copy the link and either put the IMg code from photobucket or just put the URL link from Facebook or photobucket
