Yikes, I did not know that. It's not a big deal really, the risk is extremely low (only ~5% of armadillos are infected, 95% of population naturally immune to hansen's disease). The risk is a bit higher if you eat armadillos lol. It is a bacterial infection however and if you was one of the unlucky ones it is easily treated.

Zilla hasn't been back this week, but we have another new addition, a male yellow belly with very little color, almost like a larger Jet (Jet is a red ear slider). We've dubbed him Darth, but he is really gentle and sociable, unlike his namesake. Have to work on that name.. Pics soon. Meanwhile, I took a step out to my car at my client's house tonight and found this lovely lady in a branch right over the front door. She's a great horned owl. I got a few pics, but my phone was dying so the flash wasn't that great. She's turned sideways so you can't see her horns.

Here he is. With some of the girls Dar has settled on Dart Vader as his name. She says Annakin wasn't evil, just corrupted, lol. Darth is the gentlest, friendliest male we've seen.

The small pond behind us has been drying up because we haven't had a lot of rain. It's only 3 ft deep max. Some genius (i know who) decided it would be a god idea to stock it with fish from the bigger ponds, but now they are dying due to lack of oxygen. So it's become a popular fishing hole for egrets and even buzzards, who don't normally like getting wet. These are wood storks. In the foreground we have a unique visitor, a roseate spoonbill (pink bird). In the 25 years I've been in FL I've only seen about a half dozen of them, all at Cape Canaveral, so this was a treat. Like flamingos, tey supposedly get their pink color from eating crustaceans, i.e. shrimp.

The terps have decided that our beach has the best sunning conditions. This is about 20 feet from our door. Middle of the afternoon, hours between feedings, lol.

Missed the owl picture somehow--- beautiful. However son-n law is Native American, and he saw an owl right outside his back door. That was big UH-OH to him. Sure enough, about 2 weeks later his cousin died.

So we're out feeding turtles and our neighbor and his daughter come over to watch, when out of the blue they said that they have a per turtle. So they brough him over so we could see him. He's a yellow belly slider/cooter that they got at apet store a few months ago. 2 weeks ago, right after we got back from Canadia, we're out feeding again and they bring him out and say that it's time to let him go and put him in the pond. This little one has only evey lived in a tank. Before we could say whoa, hold on there, he was in the pond. A week later, we see his little head going back and forth watching us feed the others. In short, just over a week after he was released (No idea if he ate in that time or not) I took this This one is a mini roll call, containing about 8 of the 10 present that evening And this is a quickie of how gentle Gamera has become. She's probably 30-35 lbs, 18-20 inch carapace and a good 15 inch neck. Never actually asked her to sit for measurements, lol.

This is Scooter. I had to post a pic of his nose. If you look closely you can see an upside-down heart. Dar wants so bad to bring him with us.
