Went to the vets today. He checked his poop and it was fine. So he said he is going to treat him as if he has ECE. Put him on three meds and said call back in a week if nothing has changed. Omg what am I supposed to do?? He said my other ferret may get it also. Do I need to sperated them and put one in a different cage and different room altogther??Or is it too late. My poor boys. I am at work now and don't even know if I have another cage.

I asked how they would have got it. He said its spring and that may be why. My friend said maybe its stress. I did bring two marshalls ferret home from work over the weekendfor a vet appoinment and they were fine. Got a clean bill of health. I kept them in the ferret nation cage with my boys but split them up. They never played with eachother. I only took them for a check up because they were small for three months old. Vet just said marshalls ferrets keep getting smaller and he also checked their poop and it was clean. Just weird how my guy was sick later that day after I returned them to work

Then I remembered that a couple months back when I did not get my ferrets I ordered at work the driver said marshalls was having a problem with the ferrets being sick. So could have had this. But it can stay in the body for six months. The green poo is only the first couple days. Maybe that's why they are so small and they lost weight from ece. So they are still shedding the virus

Still think my guys would have got it sooner being that the one ferret at work has been here since march 17 and I hold them everyday. I just keep assuming the worst this is freaking me out.

is he still eating and pooping? get him some pedialyte and mix 1/2 pedialyte 1/2 water. although, if he is dehydrated already, then ithis will not help much. sometimes coat changes will cause gastrointestinal upset (seedy, green, yellow mucousy poops) but i would be worried about a blockage caused by something he ate or hairballs. have you checked his toys and blankets to see if he chewed on anything? it is very important that he eats and drinks water. how is he acting? is he playing? is he hiding from you? sleeping alot? lethargic?

His coat is still nice and thick. My ferrets do not really chew on their toys, well that i have ever seen. His poop is less runny since i have been home from work a couple hours ago, but it is still green. He went over to the meat and just licked up the juices and went back to laying down somewhere. But he was alert in the cage when I got home and walked in the room. sleeping more then usual, YES. Lethargic, not that bad. And he still seems to be drinking a bunch. The vet checked his stomach by feeling it and said he did not feel anything. The meds I got are Sucrafate, Amoxi Drops, and Metronidazole. About to give him these now

Metro is horrible stuff. Some have had success with administering it as a cocktail...oil, metro, oil. If he's having too much trouble with it, see if the vet will put him on something else. I've only used it once and my present vet won't prescribe it unless absolutely necessary as it is very stressful for the little ones. Good luck ciao

thats what i thought. Poor guy. Does anyone still think I should separate my two boys. Skunkers is still fine. I just still don't believe it is ECE. He seems a bit better tonight. I even made a squeaking noise with one of their toys and he went crazy and tried to take it from me. I was thinking Skunkers does hide meat in the room. I just found some fresh stuff in a corner. Maybe that is what he ate some older meats. Still cant believe after having him 3 years its the first time it happened if it is from some old meat.

The one consideration is that he's come in contact with a virus (not ECE) and is suffering through the disease. Just because one gets the virus doesn't mean that the other will too. I would think at this point in time that whatever this is has already been shared and that separating them at this point would probably be pointless and just add to more stress to both fuzzes. This would be entirely up to you. I know how stressful it can be to have one sick fuzz but to have them all become infected raises that stress level through the roof (been there have done that, had an apparently healthy rescue come in, came through the incubation period without issue, vet check same...brought in an upper respiratory infection ). It could be your other little one has encountered this virus or a mutation (viruses love to do this) and his immune system recognizes it. One of the problems that should always be considered, it has been hinted that Marshals several years ago had an issue with ECE in their breeding facility. What people were finding was that kits with all the appearances of being healthy were actually carriers and were transmitting this disease to other ferrets who had not been raised in this environment. This would not be the first time that a farm has been the basis for a viral issue. ciao

His poop is still green and runny again. So this would be day 3. He seems a little more lively. Seems to not be drinking water from the water bottle. He runs right over to the cats water bowl when I let him out of the cage. But he eventually goes back and lays down once he is out. Still not eating anything I think. Its hard to tell because it has been a little hot and I know they eat less then. Feels like he lost weight in the past two days to me. Have a vets appointment for Skunkers about his tooth. Having a different vet do that, so I am going to ask him more about Thomas J's problem and what i should do.

If he's not eaten in 3 days, it's very serious! And since he's been on his meds for those days, he should be showing SOME signs of improvement. I'd be getting him in to a ferret savvy vet asap. Can you give syringe feedings to him to get some nutrition into him, as well as some fluid?

He seems better. I did watch him eat his meats tonight. I was sooo happy. I asked my other vet about him and he said the other vet should have done blood work. He ask where he got the ECE from because he has not seen it in years in a ferret. Next time I am only taking my weasels to this guy. I have been taking Skunkers there for years. I should have taken Thomas there the other day, I am so kicking myself right now for that and for not knowing any better and bringing those ferrets from work home. I should have known that after all these years
