The wee ones are 16 weeks this weekend. Radagast was just shy 4 lbs last week and his sisters weighing 1 lb less than he. Baby ferrets don't stay babies for very long. They change from week to week, which is why I encourage all Ferrants who've got kits to take pics, daily if you can, but weekly if you cannot. The changes are staggering....from this: to this in a matter of a few weeks. ciao

It is kind of scary on just how FAST they grow. Not much wonder they inhale everything in sight!

It's one of the reasons why the ferret farms send the kits out so young and one of the reasons why Marshals farm experimented for a time with a micro ferret. People want baby ferrets, not adults and by the time they're 14 weeks they're every bit as large as an adult ferret. The end reason why BYB breeders also try and get rid of their kits by 8 weeks is they don't want to feed them. A baby ferret can garborate about 3 x the amount that an adult eats. No profits in that (headwall)....but they're still just babies and require that extra time to mature and become confident juveniles. The fact that as juveniles they will be the largest they will ever be outweighing their end adult weight by the time they're into their first winter season. Their weights become more stable with the spring and they often will not weigh as heavy as they did that first winter again. ciao

lol Heather is correct you become very very poor when you breed (I am an expert at being poor lol) my kits eat better than me lol this morning they dined on cubed venison ( I got toast LOL)lunch was chicken thighs ( I had a tomato sandwich) and tonight they will share a three pound rabbit (I may have burger and fries lol) I like to mix up there diet so I am constantly filling freezers I love seeing them grow but boy its great to see them grown lol then there three feeds become one and normality returns for a few months any way then I can eat meat myself lol heathers not wrong about them inhaling food and what they also give is piles upon piles of poop lol its amazing that someone so small can poop so much lol keep up the good work heather your doing an amazing job take care bye for now Bev

They're huge! And beautiful. I'd like to see pics of the girls with a store bought ferret. Pandora is 3 lbs but she looks chunky. Only one of our boys is over 4 lb, and HE looks chunky. The other 2 are less than 2 1/2 lb.

I will see if I can get you a comparison shot . I've got a average sized sprite (marshals). I think that Atreyu is a smaller gibb though. He's just 3 lbs ciao

He's just 3 lbs ciao My MF males range from 2 lbs to almost 4 depending on time of year, but the sweet sot for them in general seems to be 2.5-3 lbs. Over 3 lbs seems to be a larger than average MF boy and my little 2 lb 'bino boy is of course somewhat runty.

Ok, we decided to start with Radagast. We couldn't get him to cooperate and he was so miserable I didn't want him near poor Atreyu. He did decide to get really nasty and latch on poor Bert so that was the end of our photo shoot, so that we could apply many bandaids. Bert went to bed muttering something about hating polecats lol We should have taken the hint from Radigast's expression and let him continue to beat on his best friend and little sister Boudicca This is the I'm not going to cooperate and you're being really stupid human. I'm a superior force to be reckoned with. I'm not a baby, I'm a hob and this is not the respect I expect. The other wee one that was up and about was little Boudicca. She's a tiny wee mite but she gives as good as she takes and doesn't take much from her brother As you can see, considerably smaller than her brother as it should be. Merida and Lola were tucked in under the sofa and were sleeping, so were not photographed. Bert had also had enough when Radagast decided to fill him with ferret holes. He was bleeding fairly good. I don't know if this helps you gauge sizes. We used a tape measure to give you an idea of length. The measure is in inches and feet. ciao
