So yesterday i went to work like every other day.
I was bragging about Pooka, of coarse, and a lady I work with was shaking her head at me. I was like "awe do you not like ferrets?"
She shocked me by telling me she hates them, her 7 year old daughter has one andit just drives her crazy. She totally had my attention at this point because I don't feel like her situation is right for a ferret. She is a single mom with three kids, one with a disability, and she works at subway. I don't think she would be able to afford a big vet bill.
And I don't think a 7 year old with a disability is a good candidate for a ferret mom.
Anyway, she proceeds to tell me about tinkerbell, her evil ferret, and how she keeps them all up screaming at night. Bad sign. I kept asking questions and I find out they were keeping her in an old hamster tank, she only got out of that tank once every week or two, she was being fed dog food and they couldn't understand why she won't eat the hamster food they got her...
I asked if they had ever clipped her nails or taken her to the vet. Nope.
She told me she is going to "set her free" because she can't handle her.
I had to step in. I told her that I could take the ferret off her hands and that pooka needed a buddy anyway.
So i went to pick her up later that night and it was sad... the first thing i discovered was that tinkerbell was a boy. Not a girl. Second thing was how horrible his environment was. Third was that this little demon was THE sweetest little thing i had ever met.
I got him home and isolated a part of pooka's quality cage ferret mansion for him, ordered some ear mite medicine. Because I'm 110% sure he has them, and I'm treating pooka for them right now anyway, and I really don't want him to get them again.
Anyway Clyde (tinkerbell really just wasn't doing it for me) is doing good after his first two days home. I am going to get him in to my vets soon just to check everything out. But he really is doing well. I'll get some pics up soon
