Oh no! Far out, that sucks I know what that is like & you have my sympathies! Well, if you can lower your hand into a dish & get her eating that way, you can slowly wean her to independence. All good, just post when you can.

Sorry to have been away so long...this flood has been a nightmare...2 weeks have passed and just today someone cam out to look...just look....at the damage! We have the worst landlord ever! I admit I haven't been as hard on Pumpkin these couple weeks...although I found if I make the soup thinner again I can get her to eat it without egg yolk! (I discovered this after not realizing we had run out of eggs!) And she will take maybe 3-4 licks out of the bowl on her own now before I have to feed her again. We had an incident the other day with maggots on Otis' food. I had put the chicken rib cage in the cage around 9-10pm and by 11 am there were maggots! We freaked out...and threw away the chicken that the rib cage was from. Some people said it's ok for him to eat maggots but we were terrified that they would get sick! We kept checking their fur and poop to make sure everything was normal. Since then Otis has been getting very supervised feeding since he is such a stasher! It doesn't help that we had to move them upstairs where it's a lot warmer and a lot more sunlight.

Pumpkin has been doing good without anything to mask the flavor of the meat! That lazy little goon has taken a step back on texture but I'm working her back up every so slowly for the little princess lol. Otis has been getting a little jealous of Pumpkin's feeding time. I'm going to have to get Rob to take pictures of the "ritual". As I feed Pumpkin Otis comes by my feet and stands against my leg like "hey I want some too! Feed me!" Then he will lay on his back starring at me all adorable like . When Pumpkin starts getting fussy I put her down and grab him and feed him some of his food. That monster just drapes over my arm comfy and can be and chows down even dooks a little! When Pumpkin is ready for round 2 she has started mimicking Otis' "feed me" stance on her back by my feet and I'll switch back to her! I'm going to be stuck hand feeding both of them soon lol at least Otis will eat most of his on his own...I think he just doesn't like being left out...my little Otie boy

I understand. Floods are the pits, I specifically avoided having the carpets done in the back half of the house until the verandah & yard were fixed, because all it took was one good storm & the back end would have water come in. Nightmare. Pumpkin, such a precious thing. So she likes a thinned out soup, fussy child. So she is no longer eating the slivers? And maggots are not harmful to them, very high protein actually. Otis is so adorable You can just cuddle & fuss him instead of hand feeding him, that's all I do with mine if I hand feed my Fez & Lucien, Aydin, Alvin, Roger or Theo usually come & paw at my foot & roll around all sweet & innocent like, making me feel guilty. I just pick them up & smoosh their faces with kisses lol Also, I believe Rob works with a friend of mine also! She messaged me saying how he was talking to her about switching & I was your mentor (not a great one at that haha). Small world.

Sorry we were away again! Our landlord is making life very difficult! Going on 5 weeks and nothing has been fixed and we are getting ready to call the health inspectors on him! Pumpkin still wants just soup...but without any additives to mask the flavor. Instead of giving her the actual soup recipe I have been kind of following Otis' menu. Since It has been warmer Otis really doesn't like to eat during the day so he just gets a bigger dinner. I try to feed him during the day and he just ignores it. Monday's they get a mixture of goat, steak and heart which Otis will only eat ground up. Sometimes I will give them an egg yolk with it. Tuesday's Otis gets chicken neck and Pumpkin gets chicken breast (with egg shell). Wednesday Otis gets veal tail and Pumpkin gets pork chop (with eggshell).Thursday is liver, kidney and steak day (if i didn't give them egg on Monday I'll give them some Wednesday). pumpkin seems to really enjoy organs lol. Thursdat is chicken thigh for Pumpkin and turkey neck for Otie. Friday he gets pork rib and she gets pork chop with eggshell. Saturday is chicken breast and neck and Sunday is chicken thigh and turkey neck. Pumpkin really likes chicken skin so I try to incorporate it as much as I can since she can use the extra fat. She still spits out bone so I try to sneek her some and use eggsgell powder so she is at least getting the nutrients. Otis still doesn't like to take on bone whole but if i cut it into a couple pieces he does great. I was kind of thinking of starting him on whole prey...im just worried he would want that cut up too! I dont think I could stomach hacking up a little mousey Maybe if its soft enough being smaller bones he would be ok....isn't it better for him to have whole prey?

That sounds actually really good (& kinda yummy lol). It is a good thing, try getting some slivers into Pumpkins soups & increase the sizes slowly. Whole prey is quite good, mice & small rats make excellent staples, & most ferrets take to them fine without the hack job Also, landlords suck. I don't lease/rent, plenty friends who do & it really is a PITA.

When I made her the goat and heart i let the heart a little chunkier and she did ok...but she really loves organs lol. Otis took 2 pretty hard falls in 2 days so I've been babying him a bit. I think he knocked the wind out of himself the second time and it gave me a heart attack!! He limped a bit the first day but has been getting better so I'm not so worried. Since then we remodeled his cage...but now he is acting like a cat! he keeps rubbing his face against my hand like the kitties do!! What a goof! Once he's back to 100% we might tr a mouse...should it be like a pinky or smaller or bigger...?

Hi fuzzies Until Phae can get back here I'll give you a hand! I'm glad Otis is okay. I gather he has recovered completely? With mice since they've not had them before I'd chop up some pinkies and mix them into their meat to begin.

Do as Sherry says. Unless you can get freshly killed mice, dice the pinkies and hide them in food.

Otis has totally recovered from his falls but poor fellow has a cold or allergies...poor little sniffles! I have been giving him soup to make sure he's getting enough water and taking him in a steamy bathroom twice a day which seems to have magical effects on the goon! And I have been leaving soup in the cage for little Princess Pumpkin...some days she goes for it others not but i guess that progress! On her fussy days I'll feed her from the cage right over her bowl...she doesn't need me to hold her to eat anymore. As for the pinkies...I'm a little squeamish about cutting it up myself lol but once his cold passes I'll try I know it's better for him but eek! I'm the one who's going to have a harder time transitioning lol!! Giving it to him no problem...chopping it up...........haha. Is there a certain food in specific that would be good to mix the pinky with? and Should I give him a full 1....how much will he need? The weather seems like it's gearing up to switch and the little ones have been starting to eat more again. Also do you have any other advice for his cold?

Poor boy. Sniffles are never good, so keep a close eye on him. Not sure if you have it, but you can try Bisolvon Chesty, 0.3ml once a day, will help any congestion/mucous come up. Use it for 3 days then stop if no improvement/changes. Most ferrets hate it, but a small 1ml syringe & you can quirt it right down the gullet.
Pinkies are a great treat, though they're more like candy than a nutritious meal. You can just try dangling a fuzzy mouse by the tail (instead of a pinky) & getting him to play with it, usually encourages eating lol

Pumpkin is officially switched! She ate her first turkey neck (granted it was chopped up a bit) bones and all this past week! She has also had veal tail, pig rib, chicken thigh, steak, goat, pork chop, and all the various organs with no problems! I just have to chop the bones a bit. More often than not she is the first one to go for the food before Otis! Feeding has gotten 1000 times easier now lol! Her fur is getting nicer and she seems to actually be gaining a little weight. August 25th was her first birthday

That is FABULOUS! news. Well done! All the hard stuff is behind you now You've done brilliantly. Now, do you think you know how to provide a balanced, weekly diet for them? If so, can you post me a weekly menu plan?
