1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
We saw some info online and then my boyfriend began working with a guy that has 6 ferrets that are on raw diets so we decided to go for it!
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
We definitely want to go fully raw. There is a possibility of live prey...but we are not 100%...we think Otis may take to it and are not too sure if Pumpkin would.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
We want what is best for our little fur babies! We want them to be as healthy and happy as can be! No more "McDonalds" kibble for our babies!
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switchng your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as commited. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment?
YES!! We want our babies to be as healthy as possible! We want what is best for them!
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
2 - Pumpkin - she will be 9 months old on the 25th. We have had her since early November. She is on the smaller side but not underweight. No health issues unless you count being stubborn
- Otis - he just turned 3 months old on the 3rd. He is deaf...possibly Waardenburg syndrome. He has a little belly but isn't overweight. We have had him for exactly 1 week today
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc) Do they already eat some form of soup?
Pumpkin was on Marshall kibble and Ultra Blend Select. We were trying to get her on Wysong Epigen 90 before raw but she doesn't like it. We crush up a few pieces over her food. It would be easier to just omit that step and go straight to raw! Once a week I hand feed her an egg yolk (she will not eat it any other way) and she eats about half.
Otis was on Stella and Chewy dehydrated dog food. Now we have him on the soup recipe listed above.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
Other than a weekly egg yolk or the current switch no.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
Pumpkin is stubborn and picky! She is going to take a lot longer than Otis who just happens to love eating everything!
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
Daily.
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
I will have to get better pictures! Not many good ones of Otis yet and most of Pumpkin's are of her snuggled in blankets or my sock drawer lol
11. Have you met the requirements for this program? Do you have your scale, a place to access meats, hearts, livers, etc?
Yes to all of the above...pretty sure at least! Definitely to all the tools and ingredients!
