1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
I read about natural diets in my Ferrets for Dummies book. I instantly went out and bought mealworms because I hear the are quite the treat. Not so much. My ferret wanted NOTHING to do with it, so I set the worms free.
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I'm not quite sure I would like to feed Whole Prey. I'm too much of an animal lover, and couldn't go for that. I am unsure of what a partial natural diet looks like? Raw during the week, kibble during the weekend?
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
I want my fuzzies to be the healthiest they can be. Before I found this site and its wonderful people, I lost one of my babies to unhealthy diet. I don't want that to happen again.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switchng your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as commited. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment?
I am definitely ready to make the switch.
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
I have Steavn. He is a male, approximately 5-6 years of age. He has a little tumor on his right elbow and he is showing signs of Adrenal Disease (thinning fur, sexual aggression). Also, he is losing his sight. Then I have Penny. She is a female, 1 year in age. She is healthy, but has a silly little cough that the vet says is nothing. I sometimes wonder though...
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc) Do they already eat some form of soup?
Currently, we feed our babies Blue Buffalo Wilderness Cat formula. We switched them both from Marshals Ferret food We also give them Ferretone as a treat.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
We have, multiple times, and failed miserably every. Single. Time. Started with a soup. They tried it, showed their distaste, and left it to sit. Tried eggs, both cooked and raw. Never liked cooked eggs, and both had tried the raw egg, and hated it. They even ran from me . Raw meat? Forget about it! Cooked meat, not a chance. We've tried mixing it with their kibble, and they STILL didn't want it. The ONLY meat Steavn liked, after much force while he was sick, was the baby food (chicken and water). He actually started liking it after he was getting better. But quickly wiened himself back to kibble when he felt better.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
We are a close family. Penny and Steavn usually sleep in our bed with us, and love to greet us when we each get home from work. We take driving trips with our ferrets, and they love car rides. Their gramma (my mom) SWORE she would never like ferrets, and she was scared to death of them. Now, she comes over just to see the "grandkids" We treat our ferrets like they are our children, because they are
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
I have access to my computer when I'm not at work (I work retail). I check my email and facebook regularly, so there would be no issues.
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
This is Steavn My beany baby
