I just thought of another possible solution, IF suprelorin is available in Canada (I live about 2 hours from the Canadian boarder) I could possibly bring her there? Ill give the vet in St. Stephen, NB a call tomorrow... I read online that the implant was recalled back in Nov.? I also read that a larger pharm. company bought out the smaller one that was making the implant, and that is why they haven't been making it because it isn't "worth it" financially?! Sigh

I'm sorry. Poor little Bea. If soupies feel better on her mouth give her that instead. Hopefully she won't back-step too much but if she does we'll get her back on track when she is feeling better. I agree that at her age and health the surgery is probably a much bigger risk than any potential benefit. Virbac supposedly had to call back a massive shipment that sat in a cargo plane in the heat for a day and ruined the implants. That set them behind schedule and they didn't want to ship again until they caught up. I think it is VERY fishy indeed - why stall ALL shipments because of one shipment going bad, maybe two (I think there was possibly an issue with another batch also). IMO it is VERY possibly a ploy to make people desperate enough to pay twice the price - and people ARE going to pay twice the price... NO idea how I'm going to swing 2 implants every 6 months at $400+ a piece...

Sigh Virbac bought out PepTech well over a year ago. And yes, shipments have been stalled THAT long. People are now losing ferrets to adrenal for the first time in years....Heather lost a few. If you can get to a vet in Canada who has the implant I would most definitely give that a try!! They JUST started shipping them out though (assuming that news is indeed accurate) so it may still be hard. I'll keep my fingers crossed!!!! Let me know what you find out.

It looks like Virbac is telling the vet I called the same thing as my vet. That it will be available at the end of the month. But I guess that's what they keep saying, according to Bea's vet. I really hope it becomes available soon, it's torture knowing there is a treatment out there that works, but not being able to get it. I hope to have the Lupron shot by the end of next week and I really hope it works for Bea. She is stable now, but still pretty low energy.

I agree that it seems like they are preying on our desperation I really hope it's not twice as expensive. For all of our sakes...

Same here... Ugh and I feel your frustration. Poor little Bea. Hopefully the Lupron works - you may want to ask your vet about a double-dose. Apparently Xiomora (Sonny Piccirillo on FB, Miamiferret here) was talking to a vet who is pretty esteemed in the ferret vet community and he said that if Lupron isn't working for more advanced adrenal disease, a double dose may be more effective. I don't know how that would alter her response to the des then when it gets back in though. Also, maybe worth asking about...they do make a 9-something dose version of the implant instead of the 4-something dose. It is used in dogs and horses and it's production was not affected to my understanding. IF I remember correctly, someone mentioned that perhaps the larger dose is used in the UK? And someone was definitely considering seeing if their vet could/would get he larger dose implant for their sickie adrenals who were fading without the implant. I don't know much about the larger dose or its safety in ferrets, but it may be worth looking into. Hopefully Lupron can hold her out a month or two and you can get some des on board...

Hello, Bea is doing good. She had an episode of some kind yesterday. I brought her to the vet and she had snapped out of it by the time I got there (it takes 2 hours). She was hacking and throwing up bile. Then she just got all quite and weird after, but I think she was just exhausted or in shock a bit. They checked her over and said she looks great and so they gave her the Lupron injection. She also gained back about 3 oz. since she had to go to the emergency vet! When I was at the vet they had just received an email from virbac stating that a shipment had just gone out from Australia. So fingers crossed it will be available soon.

Bea is back to eating soupies. She eats a lot when she is on that diet. I think I will try to supplement meat slivers back in. She's a picky eater and considering her health, I just want her to have the proper nutrition. She stays better hydrated on that diet also. Hopefully the implant is available soon!

Yes with insu it's important that she eat. That said, try moving her back to chunks here soon. We don't want her getting *too* used to eating soup.
